Neighbourhood: Shoreditch
The western front of the edgy East End, Shoreditch is a perennially trendy haven for anything “street” – be it art, food, or fashion. With its handful of well connected transportation links dotting its perimeter, along with an ever increasing variety of shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants, it's easy to explore this trend-conscious and youth-oriented neighbourhood. There's a lingering post-industrial grit about Shoreditch, but because it shares a border with “The City” financial district, the influence from its upscale neighbour can result in fascinating outcomes.

- Andrew WLondon, United Kingdom6 contributionsFun, well themed, non-linear but not super difficultWent with my parents while they were visiting and my brother for the Battle for Britain room. It was good fun! Theming was done well, our host was excellent. With 5 of us (some experienced at escape rooms some new) we finished everything with 10 minutes to spare and minimal hints, so I feel it was maybe a little easier than I expected, but that was partly due to the large group. Probably better with a smaller group, or for less experienced people. On the other hand, the non-linear nature of the room meant we were able to split up and solve different puzzles, so we weren't all waiting for one person.I think we'd probably put your speed down to an excellent performance! We think 4-5 is the ideal number, but sounds like you just aced it. We tend to think that the flow of the game is more important than the time spent - so if those 50 minutes we fun and kept everyone engaged, I'd say you had an optimum experience. - Craig RAbbots Langley, United Kingdom7 contributionsA great time for sureThis escape room was a great experience for the six of us in our group, from the great and enthusiastic welcome (and a few hints) from Charis to the experience in the escape rooms themselves. With many different types of puzzles that gave us more than enough to do. The WW2 theme was extremely well done, not to give the game away, a bit scary at one stage. Well recommended!Charis is great at making sure everyone is geared up for the best experience. Glad you enjoyed the theme. There's a few intense moments in The Adventure Begins, but we do gauge whether its appropriate for the team and read the room before introducting that tension. The hosts were lovely and really good at setting the scene and interacting with us. And the escape room itself was very well planned out and professional. - Jxthury1006London, United Kingdom1 contributionGreat for couplesThe host was really fun and friendly. The theme was really cool and it had a lot of surprises too. Was well worth the money and was in general a great experience. We managed to complete it 2 mins before times up but were told we could get extra time if we needed it. Great staff and a great vibe. Thanks for the positive feedback. Yes, a little extra time is needed now and again, but not needed for you! - MattZASurrey, United Kingdom7 contributionsBrilliant WWII fun!Our first escape room experience as a family and we loved it! Atmospheric, challenging, interesting and fun. Django made the whole experience even better, helping us with well-timed clues (and a bit of humour :-)) when he could see we needed a nudge. The hour absolutely flew by! 4 people seemed the right number, and our 12 and 11 year old thoroughly enjoyed it (and solved some of the puzzles which we couldn’t!) Ten out of ten!Thank you for the 10 out of 10 (and five stars!). - pinknelopiLondon, United Kingdom1 contributionGreat fun but short! The rooms were nicely done with props etc and the puzzles were great but it would have been better if there was more time available for 2 rooms - in the end we were rushing and that wasn't enjoyable. I understand that for most its about the thrill of making quick and sharp decisions against the clock etc. but there are some people out there that would enjoy it better if they are able to take their time. :-)Thanks so much for taking time to review us. Setting the difficulty of the room is something we think about a lot. We have experienced a whole spectrum of experience levels and different groups approach the games in different ways. Even the same group playing at 10am in the morning when brains are alert can be different from the same team later in the day after a taxing day at the office. Some find it intuitive and some find it more challenging than that. We've had record escapes around the 30 minutes mark and then groups of two for whom English is their second language. We try to gauge how much assistance is made available through hints - again, customer preferences range widely from wanting to be self-sufficient, through to wanting nudges or clues to keep them on track. Adding more time is something that we will do if the schedule allows. On peak days, this may be harder to offer. I don't have any context for the game you played - which one you chose, how large was group etc. So, that's the context of my reply. We think the room difficulty is set about right - to give all teams a fighting chance of escape/completing the mission whilst not creating something too easy or that fails to offer content/value for money. I'm sorry that you felt rushed. I'd hope that our hosts would have picked up on this and adapted their style (and timings if possible) to suit you. It's definitely worth telling your host that you'd be keen to see everything and not to rush at the start of the game. Even better, if you can let us know in advance and we can see if it's possible to carve out a little more time in the schedule for you (that's certainly a challenge when your business model can cater for a limited number at a time). Anyhow, I see that it was described as great fun. I do hope you will consider returning again and that we can improve on 'great fun'. If you decide to, do drop us an email hq@escapeplanltd.com to arrange an extended time game for one of the other experiences we offer ... or if you want to feedback further.Written 3 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Written 3 November 2023
- Alice U1 contributionGreat funMy friends and I had the best time playing The Adventure Begins. Allie was a fantastic game master, who brought so much enthusiasm to her work and managed to scare us quite a bit when the pressure was mounting! The puzzles were challenging but not excessively difficult for first-time players (which half of us were) and it feels like a room which could work for lots of different groups (friends, families, etc). We'll probably be back to do the other ones. Highly recommend! Thanks! Just a quick note that the games don’t have to be scary. We read the group and take on board if customers preferred to stay puzzle focused. My boyfriend and I are big escape room people, and these have been some of the best organized puzzles and good quality rooms. Also loved Sarah's energy and genuine passion for explaining the background behind the rooms. You can tell these rooms have been put together by true puzzle fans! We can't wait for the next one to come live.We can’t wait for it either - we’re really excited for the next experience. - Samantha T2 contributionsFantastic rooms, can't wait to visit again! My husband and I visited escape plan yesterday. We were recommended this company by numerous people and it certainly lived up to its reputation within the escape rooms enthusiasts group we are a part of. We have done lots of rooms but this company stands out with its unique puzzles and enthusiastic staff. We had the pleasure of being hosted by both Sarah and Brendan and ended up staying far longer than expected as we were all caught up in conversation of escaping afterwards! A GREAT escape room is built and run by people who are passionate and not just in it for the business. Escape Plan is certainly this! We successfully completed the ROLL out the Barrel and the Battle of Britain rooms. Both had fantastic puzzles that made us work, but were fitting with the themes, made sense and the room theming was spot on. They have another room in the planning, hopefully coming next year and next time we are in London we hope to return to try the new room and the remaining one we sadly didn't have time for on this visit. Thanks Brendan and Sarah for a fantastic experience! If we were able to review guests, you’d both be hitting scores of 5 star. Great experience at Escape Plan. Very accommodating to a change in schedule which was appreciated.
We completed the POW experience with just 3 minutes to spare! Our excellent host Sara, created a great atmosphere at the briefing which continued throughout the event. Clues, when needed were timely and suitably cryptic. As the end of the hour got closer, the tension and pressure was brilliantly enhanced making the whole experience just amazing.
This really is POW WOW!

Highly recommend this room/company.
Did this room as a two player team with my brother. We have done 30+ rooms in teams of varying sizes, but this was the first time doing one as a just a pair.
The venue was easy to find, being a short walk from Shoreditch Tube Station. The staff here were helpful as we had arrived early, they showed us where the toilets where located and called the game host to let them know we had arrived.
Sara, our host, was very friendly and enthusiastic. She explained the concept and told us that although, like most escape rooms, the time limit is 60 mins they allow 70 mins for two player teams to compensate for the fewer players. After the briefing, which was clear and easy to understand (Until I started doing escape rooms I had no idea how many varieties of padlock existed!), we were put into the room to begin our escape.
Without giving too much away the room was very impressive. It was well themed as a WWII POW hut and very immersive. The puzzles were varied and by and large fit in with the period, they struck the right balance between being challenging but not arbitrarily difficult. There are plenty of puzzles to solve and the game is not linear so it would be good for larger teams as there is always something for people to be working on.
Before going in Sara had asked us about how we wanted hints and I thought she implemented them very well, allowing us to play and only intervening with a nudge in the right direction on a couple of occasions. This kept the game flowing well without feeling like we were being led.
The atmosphere with the ambient sound really added to the tension, especially towards the end of the game as you are running out of time and having to solve outstanding puzzles quickly.
As I said before Sara was a great host and after we escaped she took us back into the room to get a photo and also talked us through our game. Not all companies do this but I really think it’s such an important part of the experience, you get to hear someone else’s perspective on your performance and also find out how you fared against different teams at different stages of the game.
As we had managed to escape without completing one of the puzzles, Sara allowed us to do that and see what the item was which I really appreciated.
Ultimately we escaped in 67 minutes and 08 seconds (70 minute time limit) having throughly enjoyed every second! We got a card with our time on and a discount code for money off to play another of the rooms there in the future.
All in all I would highly recommend this room, this company and in particular our host Sara.

My mum and I were looking for a last minute game that wasn't too far from us so we took a trip into London to check out Escape Plan. I had read good things about this company and games when checking reviews and the reality did not disappoint!
Situated a couple of minutes walk from Shoreditch High Street the venue is easy to find and we were soon greeted by our friendly Games Master Sarah. We booked to play The Adventure Begins and Sarah gave an energetic introduction to the game to set the scene. As we have done a lot of games before, we were able to agree on a help system that meant we could get stuck in with the game and Sarah would only help if we asked or she could see we were completely off track with something. The game itself was well themed and you can tell alot of time and thought has gone into the puzzles that seamlessly met the narrative. It was a relatively linear game, but at times different puzzles could be completed simultaneously, which then lead onto the next puzzle. I liked that nothing was too high tech but instead lots of tactile mechanical puzzles that have been made with care and attention to detail, fitting the theme. There were some really clever puzzles I've never seen/done in the 60 games I've done in the past so that's always a bonus. After some tension (or excitement, depending which way you looked at it) in the last section of the game we managed to escape the Prisoner of War camp with 9 seconds to spare, which we were pleased with considering there was only 2 of us and it is quite a challenging game.
The great customer service continued with Sarah post-game as we debriefed and discussed other games before getting our team picture.
I look forward to returning to try the other games in the future, including the new one opening soon with a non-WW2 theme. I would definitely recommend to others looking for a fun, challenge of a game at an affordable price considering it's in the capital!

I played the adventure begins as a two player team and definitely recommend this room and this company.
In an easy to reach location only a short walk from the train station the customer service was first class from the first moment.
Our host Sara was fantastic and explained everything clearly and with great enthusiasm and took the time after the game to talk us through it.
I enjoyed the theme of the room and found it immersive especially as they ramp up the tension as you get closer to time running out.
They theme the puzzles well to the time period and setting and also have some unique puzzles which add to the whole experience.
Enthusiastic and knowledgable hosts and well themed rooms with great stories and puzzles i can’t wait to try their other rooms when i’m next in London

Fantastic escape room! The battle of Britain is a must do for anyone who fancies a brilliantly themed room with all the decor (including some very cool props to add to the experience) I've never been to an escape room and the difficulty level was perfectly balanced. The host was fantastic at setting us up and explained everything we needed to know as 3 of us were novices. The safety and covid precautions were very thorough as well. Don't be put off by the location as the street is hard to find/looks a little random. All in all a great night with great staff. Highly recommend.

In advance of visiting London solo, I wrote to several Escape Room facilities to see if any would be willing to open their doors to a single player, if I were to pay the two-player minimum that many featured. Some declined, some accepted...and I ended up scheduling six solo rooms in my week in London. Three of these rooms were at Escape Plan, and they were by far the best of the bunch I'd selected.
It's always hard leaving reviews for Escape Rooms, as you don't want to spoil them for enthusiasts, but these rooms were extremely immersive in terms of set design and delightfully challenging in terms of the puzzles (both mental and physical). It's not too spoilery to say that a World War 2 theme is the common thread through all the rooms, from defending the southeast area of Britain from the Luftwaffe, to escaping a POW camp, to helping raise the levels of celebration on Victory Day. There are multiple puzzles that can be worked on simultaneously in each room, giving each team member something to do (unlike in most linear rooms).
The team at Escape Plan (Brendan, along with Sarah and Sam), made the experience a real treat for me and made me feel like a VIP. I was lucky in that their Wednesday afternoon was a bit slow, so Brendan suggested I show up at noon, and we just take it from there. I was given some extra time in each of their rooms, due to the difficulty for a single player (there's a LOT to do), and had some casual time in-between rooms to get a download on the history of the facility and their future plans. What I had expected to be a three-hour marathon was more of a casual 4.5 hour experience and tour.
Even if this had been a normal "show up, play, and leave" experience, I would have found the rooms amazing (my preferred rooms as a solo player, in order, were The Adventure Beings, the Battle for Britain, and Roll out the Barrel...but Battle for Britain was tops from a pure game design perspective). The white glove treatment from Brendan and team, however, made this a highlight of my trip to London. The only downside is I've done all their rooms, so I may not be visiting them again unless something gets updated (unless the team lets me shadow the Gamemaster if I bring a few friends to experience the room themselves)!
Thanks again to the folks at Escape Plan for a great time!

I went as paer of a large group and so we split and did multiple of their room offerings at the same time. The staff (Sarah & Allie) were friendly, informative and funny, they made the game experiences even better. Everyone in our group enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to anyone. We will certainly be coming back at some point to try the rest of their games! An excellent place for both newcomers and those with previous escape room experience.

London escape rooms aren't always the best, especially central ones, but Escape Plan was great! We played the roll out the battle room and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Lots of unique puzzles, not just padlocks and keys, and a good variety. The room had some really fun elements, and a great ending. I would recommend this room for groups of 2-4 experienced teams, or more people would do well for beginners!

We had a really great time yesterday with Sam as our host in the Battle for Britain room. The puzzles were clever and appropriately themed and the mechanics of the room were impressive. At no point did we feel frustrated by the room e.g. there weren't any puzzles where we felt that we were overthinking things. Sam chipped in only at timely moments so we never felt like he was giving too much away. Also great communication system - no faffing around with walkie talkies!

Battle for Britain is a really intriguing escape room, unlike some we had done before the aim was NOT to escape but instead to save Britain! Theming of the whole venue was great, not just the room but the outside waiting area too. The first room is more traditional, solve the clues to get into the operations room. However the operations room has serval elements to it! We really enjoyed our game, although we only just managed to save Britain!! We played as a two and it was quite tricky, maybe 1 other person might have helped us a bit more! Sarah the Host was great, she offered us tips when asked for and sometimes would help us if we were close!

Do it! Our sons are 17 and 20 - loved it. Incredibly well done!

Is this a suitable activity for a family of four, children aged 11 and 12?

Hi there,
Thanks so much for your enquiry. The game is designed for 11yrs+ so it's perfectly suited to your family. There's no fear factor but there's a variety of puzzles and treasure hunting - there's something for everyone. It's been a great success with the families we've hosted so far.
We'd be delighted to host you and yours. Do get in touch if you have any further questions.
