About
Pub and Paddle is a fun and colourful canoe, kayak and rowing boat hire experience in Norwich. We create that back to nature feeling right here in the city centre! Whether you’re an expert canoeist or have never paddled a canoe or kayak before, Pub and Paddle trips are great for everyone. All of our rentals begin in the centre of Norwich at our Elm Hill Quay pontoon, next to The Ribs of Beef pub on Fye Bridge. You can take your time learning how to paddle and get the boat moving. This will not take you long – our colourful canoes easily glide across the water and are very stable! Even those of you who have grown up in Norwich will be amazed at the unique feeling you get from paddling through our fine city. Being on the water is a great way to see Norwich! It is only a short distance before the river opens up to some beautiful countryside where you can take a well-earned rest in a choice of riverside pubs. Take your pick from our return or one-way trips!

A group of us from work did the pub an paddle experience on Tuesday evening and we all had a fantastic time! I organised the event and several colleagues have said it was the best activity we have done so far (we have a social event every month).
Canoeing was really good fun and Norwich is such a beautiful city. We all really enjoyed our pizzas at the Ribs of Beef and they were served quickly.
The Pub and Paddle team are so friendly and were very quick to respond to all of my queries before the event. Thanks so much!!

Pub and Paddle hosted us for a networking event in July 2024. We booked the pub, paddle and pizza package which included two hours of canoeing, followed by pizza at the Ribs of Beef. It gave us enough time to paddle to the Red Lion pub for a drink and back again. They were really helpful when arranging the event and really responsive. Would highly recommend for networking / business events.

I booked with Pub and Paddle for my husband’s birthday.
When we arrived I realised I had accidentally booked the wrong route (completely my fault). The staff and owner were incredibly accommodating and supported me to upgrade the package I had booked.
The equipment provided was in good condition. We were also given a wet pack to keep my bag from getting wet. They didn’t charge us to hire this like other providers do, which was an instant plus.
The route we went down was beautiful. It was lovely to see another perspective of the place we call home.
The nature we saw along the way was stunning. My husband loves bird watching and spent time spotting kingfishers, herons, etc.
It was also incredibly easy to tie the boat up near the pub and get off/on. We stopped at the Rushcutters.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and have decided to do this more regularly.

Absolutely fabulous Pub & Paddle to the pub and back. 5 hours including lunch at the pub. Lovely views along the river, chatting, waving to people on various other crafts and people on the banks/in the pubs etc.
Second time I’ve done it. The first time in the two man wooden canoe with hubby took quite a bit of work for us oldies - not helped by an uncoordinated partner! This time 4 of us had a kayak each which was much easier in my opinion - although I did get a soggy bottom!
You are given instructions/map/life jacket/dry bag for your possessions. I recommend taking a change of clothes and a towel for the car seat.
It is amazing value for money at £22 each.
Perfect to see the lovely city at a leisurely pace, get some exercise and enjoy time with friends and family.
Can’t wait to round up another fleet and do it again :)

We had a wonderful day on the canoe! We can only recommend everyone to book the full programme with Tour 3. The last section in Surlingham Broad was particularly impressive. We were very lucky that Nick picked us up together with the canoe as the last paddlers of the day at Coldham Hall. Thank you very much, it was a great pleasure!

This was a great trip. Me and my friends enjoyed the 5 hour trip down to Bramerton. Good thing about this particular route is that only have to paddle in one direction (downstream 😉). We enjoyed a lovely lunch in Thorpe St Adrew from which we continued our route to the last pub in Bramerton called the Water’s Edge. Nice pub with great scenery and great beers too. Really enjoyed this day out!

Awesome day on the river. We’ve done this a couple of times now, and would happily do it again every summer. Owner was happy to pick us up from anywhere along the pub route which took the pressure off (although we did make it to the end!)

We were on one of the last paddle and pizza trips of this year. Despite the dire forecasts, the weather was kind to us; just one sharp shower, and we managed to shelter under a railway bridge (very noisy but a lot of fun!)
We were new to Norwich, so it was fascinating to see the old commercial premises along the river, as well as the many new residential developments. ( It would have been good to have a more detailed map of the route, before, during, or after the trip, so we could appreciate the city stories more fully).
Staff were friendly and helpful, the pub was warm and welcoming and the pizza was great.
All in all, one of the highlights of ourctrip to Norwich. Thoroughly recommended!

Would highly recommend! We didn’t book and although they were super busy they called us within 30 minutes to say they had an available craft. We did 2 hours in a double canoe and it was a great way to see the city. Would definitely do it again and plan a longer trip next time out to the Boads. Thanks Nick & co

We did the Norwich to Surlingham 7h trip on canoe and it was great fun! We stopped at 2 pubs on the way and ended up at Coldham hall for dinner. Paddling was easy and relaxing and we never felt rushed. The river wasn't busy, even on a Saturday in August, and is very pretty one you get out of Norwich a bit. Such a nice day out, have been recommending to everyone ☺️

Hi, yes we love dogs in canoes! They're fine to come along and we don't charge anything for them.

You have about 4 hours. It took under a hour each way plenty of time to stop for lunch and look around village.

Hi! No unfortunately we don’t allow children under 3 on the canoes. If you wanted to take both the kids then you could go on a rowing boat instead - this is fine for any age as they’re very big and much more stable than a canoe. We have a kids buoyancy aid for the 6 year old and a toddler life jacket for the 2 year old.
Kind regards,
Chantal
