Little gem

Full of little fascinating pieces, the section on the fossils & jurassic coast is worth a read, not the biggest museum but a little gem & the staff were lovely..

From unique specimens of fossils to priceless Whitby jet collections, Captain Cook's sea chest and items from around the globe to stunning wedding dresses, I was absorbed for hours. Cannot recommend enough! I have never seen such an array of miscellaneous but historically important artefacts in one room. This is clearly a much loved museum, and would suggest you leave... More

On a rainy day day we spent a couple of hours in Whitby a museum and Art Gallery which is located in Pannett Park. I can definitely recommend this for the whole family. The museum is packed with interesting objects which will definitely appeal to children.

This museum is fantastic!!! We were greeted by very happy and helpful staff who explained where everything is in the museum. The section on Captain Cook is very interesting. The layout is a bit strange, but everything is on one level. I would recommend this to anyone staying in the Whitby area.

I spent a very interesting few hours here last week looking through the little art gallery and the Aladdin's cave that is the museum.

Took the children on a windy cold afternoon. Absolute gem of a museum. Immaculate nice size with lots to see but not so much that you get bored! Loved seeing the fossils and learning more about the local history. Well worth the £5 adult admission - children are free and there was even a little quiz for the children that... More

Small and crammed full of curiosities - from scrimshaw to a macabre hand of glory - there's always something new and intriguing to spot. No buttons to press, or slick screens, just charming, eclectic and fascinating objects with info cards. Well worth an hour or so. Café on site and fab play park next door.

At first sight the Whitby Museum, approached via the Pannet Park Art Gallery, might seem to be one of the neglected dusty old museums that are dreaded by children-in-tow. Once you are inside you realise that this is a well curated museum. Although many of the display cases are old, and the displays might seem old-fashioned, there is a great... More

This was a great Museum which looked small from the outside but had an amazing range of artefacts laid out in a very traditional Museum style; which I found fascinating. This Museum was well worth the £5 admission charge and every case had a fascinating object or more likely objects inside. I particularly liked the collection of objects in bottles!
