We stayed in a 2 bed cottage 1/2 way up Robins Hood Bay, with our Dog. Were very fit but sadly 65 so the walk both down & Up is steep. Great Fish& Chips although a bit of a que, but very good. Parking is a bit hit & miss as you need to park at the top & walk down, we were lucky, as we found most of the time the carparks are pretty full. The locals are really friendly, and helpful. We did the Ghost walk,£9 each, Dog Free! We found it very entertaining, our host Rose, describes herself as a Story Teller, and she kept us entertained for a little over an hour recanting stories, moving through the town. We happened to chat to some young locals Cook & waitress from one of the several Pubs, who told us our Ghost Guide was Marmite with the locals, we understood why, but frankly we found her our guide an entertaining experience. We also did the costal walk to Whitby, the signs say 6.5m, my phone tracker said 9m. Nothing too hard, we got to the Whitby Abbey and had a walk around, paid £27.50 for 2 to go in, wandered down into the town and got a taxi back £18, well worth the money as too tired to walk back, although we did notice the Buses run frequently. Be careful of the tides, as we took our Dog on the beach- yes Dogs Allowed! and almost got caught out by the incoming tide. We had an enjoyable time, our trip up from Buckinghamshire was c £260m each way, which we broke up with stops at National Trust properties, all good, great toilets & cafes.

We spent a day in Whitby. It's worth arriving early if you are travelling by car, as the car parks fill up pretty fast by mid morning.

Streets great very crowded as you would expect.

There is plenty of shops and restaurants, from your household brands, to small independent shops and cafes.

Some great little cobbled streets with old shops on the side of the river with the Abbey.

Debut trip for the wife and l in our motorhome. Saturday 14th, weather fantastic, harbour very busy and vibrant. Lots of retail shops and pubs/ eating establishments. Great day.
Sunday overcast but luckily no rain. Scaled the 199 steps up to the Abbey. Not for the faint hearted but there is a bus tour available. Free to walk the grounds and enter church but the Abbey ruins are £13.50 to enter. A bit pricey l think. Nice cafe at the side. Plenty of fish and chip restaurants in the harbour and all close to each other. I recommend Trenchers. Not cheap at £42 for fish and chips. Scampi and chips. Peas, bread pot if tea with extra pot of water. Excellent food and excellent service. All these little touches make it value for money 10/10.
For motorhomers- Parking available at the Penny Hedge pub. First come basis, £5 p/night. 2 night max stay. Book in with the staff beforehand. I would recommend the pub. Friendly and helpful staff and great food.
Also right next to the pub is Botany Way. A dead end where 3 motorhomes can easily park side by side at an angle on the left. Max length 7m, l would say. One space available on the right as access needed to small electric sub station.
On a slope so chocks would be advised but we were only there two nights so didn't bother and managed fine. No time limit or restrictions but please be responsible as that will change if abused.

This place is within walking distance to the harbour. Go down the right turn before the bridge, called Spittal Bridge. It takes you to the harbour.
There is a slightly longer walk across the bridge where there is a signposted footpath.
Traditional British seaside town with lots of history. What's not to like.

I absolutely love Whitby - from the cobbled streets, lovely little unique shops, restaurants, to the beautiful walks and stunning views!
I really can’t wait to visit again!

The only let down to this place is the disgusting visitors who bring their dogs and don’t pick up their dog mess!!! These people are VILE!!!! Shame on them!!! This is no fault on the place at all, just a heads up to the awful people that are too lazy to pickup after their pets!!! 😠 think of all the families with their small children!!!!

Do not miss this beautiful village!

Lots to see and do. Try fish and chips on the jetty, watch the seagulls! Look for the Whitby Duck shop and purchase some for a unique gift.

Go up the stairs to the abbey and enjoy the museum. Go see the building where James Cook did his apprenticeship and the statue on the hill.

This is a terrific day out with lots to see and do.

A beautiful part of the UK. Peace and tranquillity in a fishing harbour in Whitby watching the boats go by in the harbour. A simply stunning place to just watch the world go by and appreciate life in all it's glory. The sea air cleanses your spirit, washes away the worries and makes you feel glad to be alive.

We visit Whitby every year and we love this quaint seaside town. It retains its charm and hasn't succumb to tacky modernisation. There are lots of pubs and restaurants to visit and watch the comings and goings of the harbour. The are also lots interesting shops to buy a lovely gift.

Great to see a once busy harbour still with lots of activity around it, both in the water and on the surrounding harbourside.
The character of the harbour must be similar to what it had been at the end of the century, probably only slightly quieter that it had been in the early 1900s although fishing will have reduced significantly.
Still a real buzz about Whitby which has been lost by so many otherwise popular ports.

Visited Whitby as never been before, was suprised how busy it was. We booked a boat trip, glad we went early as it gets booked up very quickly. Great boat trip and saw some dolphins, the guy was very friendly and talked to everyone individually.
Plenty of places to eat and drink

A beautiful part of the UK. Peace and tranquility reign in a fishing harbour fresh out of a bygone era. A simply stunning place to just watch the world go by and appreciate life in all it's glory.

You won't even think about vampires, you won't notice the myth even exists.
