Some places were a tight squeeze but our grand daughters loved it and were thrilled that they could see a seal swimming below whilst they looked from the top.

We happened to be walking along the Whitby waterfront ad arrived to this lighthouse with a sign out offereng entrance. Hadn't been on my list of things to do but since it was there and the minor cost is a benefit to RNLI then take the opportunity. Interesting to see the tightness of the inside, to learn some of its... More

The lighthouse is at the harbour entrance and only a short walk from the front. It costs £1.50 to enter and climb the stairs for a good view of Whitby.

My second trip to Whitby this year and never having been to the top of the West Cliff Lighthouse i decided to take the opportunity. A very pleasant attendant at the door took my very nominal admission fe of £1.50 and up i went. As a previous reviewer has mentioned the stairway is extremely narrow and (in my view) seems... More

The tallest sandstone lighthouse on the pier can be climbed up for a small fee. The great walk on the pier is very popular in all weathers.

Whitby is atown for all seasons and peoples. The lighthouse is at the end if the crescent shaped inlet harbour and a good spot to walk to. Lots of history surrounding this town and curious abound.

Excellent views, well worth taking the time to walk up. It's along narrow walk up and can be a little tight on the stairs if people passing by.

When we visited Whitby previously in April 2015, the lighthouse was closed. I later discovered that it had re-opened after restoration, and so I had to go back. Despite the borderline-stormy weather and the fact that it was out of season, the lighthouse was open. It costs £1.50 per adult. The steps, as expected, come in the form of a... More

Cannot help but think of all the sailors passing out of the calmer waters of the harbour into the swell of the North Sea by this old structure which survives despite the absolute battering it receives which can be seen in the pitted walls. Although its close by it seems a long way from the quayside shops and cafes being... More
