We visited Whitby in January and had a brisk walk along the pier to the lighthouse. We would love to get a chance to see inside but haven't managed to time being there when it is open. Still it is a great landmark and always an enjoyable walk to it from the harbour.

At a time where museums and other cultural places are experiencing declining visitors, it's great to see this attraction open and with a steady stream of people braving the steps to the top. What struck me most was the amount of weathering to the sandstone from which it is built. One of Whitby's must-see attractions.

I was amazed, and very pleased, to see this open and I did not hesitate to venture inside. The climb seemed relentless but the views were great. What could be better than £1.50 and views of the stormy sea and views of the abbey across the harbour. Fab experience

Can be wild and windy to walk out, but there are railings and the concrete is scored to provide secure footing - in places with designs of fossils. Small charge to go up the lighthouse.

Some places were a tight squeeze but our grand daughters loved it and were thrilled that they could see a seal swimming below whilst they looked from the top.
