- John S3 contributionsVegan/vegetarian cooking with SharminiI recently spent an enjoyable day cooking tasty food with Sharmini and Helen. The day was a Christmas gift from my wife. Thanks Deb! Sharmini and Helen worked together well to put the group at ease and allow friendship and humour to emerge. I enjoyed Sharmini’s informal, open manner and constant encouragement for the group to ask questions. Her answers were always helpful and respectful. I learnt the simple steps to follow to create a tasty curry using onion, garlic, ginger, green chili and selected spices. And then to add the vegetables or cooked pulses to the curry base. The day was full of learning that I will be using for years to come.Visited January 2023Written 23 January 2023
- Caroline C1 contributionWonderful experienceSharmini’s course was wonderful! She did a great job explaining everything and demonstrating, making it easy for us to make our own delicious and authentic food. Perfect for all kinds of cooking backgrounds as well. Took home a cookbook and lots of delicious leftovers. Highly recommend, great day out!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 March 2023
- Mike C1 contributionPassion for spicesThe half day course, which was a Christmas present from my children, turned out to be a weekend in York as well. The whole weekend was fantastic and the course was amazing. Although I went on the course on my own I couldn't have met a nicer and friendly bunch of people. Sharmini made everyone feel truly valued and introduced aspects of Indian cooking that were especially relevant to each of our personal needs. Throughout the day we were encouraged to ask questions and always received professional replies and tips. Layering of spices and tempering I will always remember. We were shown how to prepare and cook several dishes (many useful techniques demonstrated) and then we had a go at doing it ourselves. The kitchen smelt wonderful as twelve individual "chefs" prepared a tasty Indian curry. I must also thank Sharmini's assistant, Helen, who was kept very busy providing help and advice throughout the session. Overall an excellent experience. And what a wonderful city York is!Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 15 May 2023
- Paul H1 contributionFantastic family experience cooking togetherAttended the half day cookery course on Saturday 20th May with my family. We had a fantastic day with Sharmini and Helen . It was great to learn how to make a curry properly, normally my curries are just heat and no real flavour. Sharmini teaches you the layering of the spices which leaves your mouth full of wonderful aromatic taste. And how to cook perfect rice was a revelation. We as a family throughly enjoyed the experience and now we can all cook a good curry! Thanks again to Sharmini for a wonderful day .Visited May 2023Written 22 May 2023
- Joanne S1 contributionFantastic half day with Sharmini and Helen!Recently attended the half day cookery course with Sharmini. Was given a red letter days voucher by work colleagues and was not disappointed by the experience I selected. Pre-event information was detailed and Sharmini took the time to find out what I wanted to learn before arriving. Her attentiveness continued throughout the course, putting us all at ease to ask any questions and draw from her wealth of experience. It was a great blend of practical tips, demonstrations and the opportunity to cook the recipes provided. Our group was a good mix of abilities and believe everyone got something out of it. I took away so many tips and the confidence to recreate these dishes at home. It was a truely immersive experience into South Indian cooking and would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting to hone or learn new culinary skills. As others have mentioned big shout out to Sharmini's assistant Helen who looked after us and tirelessly ran around after us the entire course!Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 October 2023

Sharmini and Helen provided all the help and advice we needed to cook 2 mains, a snack and pilau rice during the day (some of which we ate for lunch). The location was great and all (high quality) ingredients and equipment were provided. The butter chicken recipe will be our Xmas eve dinner this year!

Attended the half day hands on cookery workshop today with Sharmini Had an amazing time, lots of laughs and new skills learnt! I went with my husband, my dad, auntie and uncle, it was great to spend some time together doing something different and learning something new!
We got to create Sharmini’s amazing, award winning Country chicken curry kerala style and Bombay potato’s which both tasted amazing if I do say so myself!
Sharmini’s demonstration of of how to make dhal and properly fry popadoms was really informative, they tasted good and can’t wait to try these at home!
I would recommend Sharmini’s cookery courses to anyone, it was really good to learn about when and how to add spices and how this changes the flavour instead of just throwing everything in together like I would have normally!
Thank you to Sharmini and Helen for all their help and support today we throughly enjoyed ourselves!

I received Sharmini's cookery class as a birthday gift from my wife, and I must say it was one of my best presents. The whole experience was fun from start to finish and it's obvious that Sharmini love's what she does, and she is a master at it.
My wife generally doesn't like Indian food, but the dish I brought home from the class may have converted her. Amazing
