The world-famous JORVIK Viking Centre will reopen on Saturday 8th April 2017 after a multi-million pound re-imagining following the devastating flooding in 2015.

What’s New?

•A New Ride experience with the sights, sounds and of course, smells, of the Viking-Age

•Updated historical interpretation, showcasing the cultural ‘melting pot’ of 10th-century York

•The latest cutting edge technology bringing the Viking period to life!

Hop aboard our improved ride experience and be transported back in time over 1,000 years! You will discover the impact of international trade on Viking-Age York, including the evolution of a multicultural society in the city, as it’s not just trade goods that flowed into Jorvik but people from across the globe! Jorvik has been revamped after the floods. It had been looking rather stale but it is now very interesting to visit. Good value. Book ahead online.

Love the scenes of Viking life with animatronic models and full size exhibits. The artefacts are very well displayed and described. As one who doesn't like reading lots of text in museums a suggestion for the next refurbishment would be to summarise each exhibit in big font so that those of us with weakening eyesight, who don't want to stand... My 2nd visit, first post flooding and still good and ever so slightly spooky. Bear in mind the restricted area overall limits some further opportunity here but the Timecar experience still great although I would like more intense odours of the time and the Norse language spoken by the mannequins to be slightly louder. My colleagues audio failed to work... More

Visited the centre as a family with a teenager and a young child. We all enjoyed the experience very much. Quite educational and entertaining. The staff were brilliant. Make sure you book online so you could have the express entrance, or else expect between 1:30hrs to 2hrs wait on the queue.

Visited Jorvik 18 months ago, just before the flooding and enjoyed it more than on this visit. Last visit, we were able to speak with the staff, who were positioned at various points and who had their own artefacts (or replicas) to show, displays to put on and information to talk about. Returned for the first time since the flooding... More

What a disappointment. We booked up for the reopening weekend and were really looking forward to this. We found it to be very dull and uninspired. The ride was too slow, the voiceover played too quiet and what we could make out wasn’t interesting. There’s not much to the attraction beyond that. Didn’t think it would be possible to make... There was a long line waiting to get in when I arrived and the doors were a little late in opening. I find it a curious thing that in a touristy place like York, nothing is open until 10am. But, however. The museum itself was excellent. There's plenty to view and the ride through a typical Viking street was well... More

I had great expectations, and it was ok and worth the visit. But I expected a little more, it ended up in a quick visit - maybe because of the noisy school children also paying a visit...

I was 16 the last time I visited Yorvik whilst on a family holiday. Now (many years later) and back in the city for a short break, the revamped museum seemed like a good option for a rather wet afternoon! Arriving after 3.30pm on a weekday meant no queues to get in and we were offered plastic bags into which... More

I had a great time learning about Viking life at the Jorvik Viking Center. This attraction is great for all ages. The commenters on here stating that it's "silly" or "for kids" are out of their minds. When an attraction is done right, it appeals to all ages and everybody learns.
