The 'experience' itself is quite small - just a couple of rooms in Micklegate Bar. The highlight of the visit was the guided tour round the walls. This actually cost less than the admission to the experience, but in my opinion was much better value.
There were only four tours per day when we went - 2 accessible and 2 normal. I am not sure the accessible tour would be quite as good, but the normal (high level) tour was excellent, with a very knowledgeable guide.

The museum is adequate but the subsequent walk along the walls was informative and entertaining and was much easier walking than expected. Good for those interested in the history of York but also a lovely stroll.

Had a fantastic walk along part of the walls with our guide, Sam. He was very knowledgable and shared many interesting snippets. He pointed out many things we would have never noticed if we hadn’t been on the tour. Definitely worth doing when you are in York! He gave us plenty of opportunities to ask questions and made sure everyone could keep up and hear what was being said. He even gave directions at the end and walked us back to the starting point!

Excellent way to experience part of the York Wall - our guide Tom was entertaining and knowledgeable providing lots of insights into the history of York and the wall.
Tour starts at Micklegate Bar and ends at Tower 1 a stones throw from Clifford’s Tower. We took the 10:30 walk (first of the day) and used this as our jump off point to explore the remainder of the city.
Great tour - well worth the wander. Perfect for all ages and abilities, apart from climbing the stairs at Micklegste and back down at Tower 1. the walk is flat and quite easy to navigate.
Highly recommend adding to your York experience.

Enough information to be interesting without feeling overwhelming. Nice mix of videos and written text. The lady working there when we visited (apologies, didn’t catch her name) was very knowledgeable about the city’s history. Steep stairs weren’t an issue for our group (60+ years) but perhaps would be a challenge for slightly older visitors.

We had a great experience at York City walls. Our guide Thomas was excellent and clearly knew his history whilst being fun and family friendly with our teenager and 10 year old. We would thoroughly recommend this for families.

Great walking tour led by an architect who is an expert on the Middle Ages. It was really interesting and refreshing to have architectural insight alongside the historical overview.
