Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This site could be really good if it was managed better. It is in an ideal location, we arrived Tuesday and the site was okay but come the weekend more caravans arrived and the owner just crammed them in with no separation between units. Totally illegal and if there was a fire the whole lot would go up.The toilet block needs to be cleaned more often, it relies on a lady doing it voluntary at the weekend, didn't see any cleaning done in the week. It needs a full time cleaner. The gents toilet had one out of order the six days we were there, leaving one toilet for all the caravans, cabins and boats which also use it. Totally not acceptable, should have been fixed. The washing up area/laundry was a disgrace, the bin was overflowing and never emptied in six days, full of cider cans. On the plus side Bishopthorpe is nice especially the social club and the bus service excellent, every 30 minutes to York. Thought we had found a perfect site but would never use it again and would not recommend it.

My friend and I booked the quirky land locked Buddleia boat for an overnight stay and it was perfect. The boat was so comfortable and everything we needed was there, the little shop on site was lovely, the staff were friendly and very helpful and the toilet & shower block was immaculate. The location is beautiful right next to the river and with a little village 5 min walk away with shops and pubs you couldn't ask for more. The other bonus is that you can get a bus into York from the village and it only takes approx 10 mins. We will definately visit again.

Definitely not a site for tents. Booked for 2 tents for 2 nights, called up the week before to double check the ground was ok for tents as it says hard standing pitch, told it was all fine. Arrived after 1hr 40 min drive. At first impressions the site looked nice, but then we seen the pitches. It was 1 hard stand with a tiny patch of grass either side right on top of the neighbouring caravan.
We were told that nobody else has issues camping there and we didn’t have to stay if we didn’t want too. We made a decision to find another site close by that had better camping facilities.

The bacon baps are the best I have tasted. The coffee good and the seating outside near the river very nice. Couldn’t be better placed.

For my 60th birthday treat.
We had no idea where we were staying and when we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely lady called Eva.
She showed us to a HUGE converted barge.
It was absolutely beautiful and the surroundings are just lovely.
Nice and warm, everything we needed and a very comfy bed.
Would recommend to anyone.
Even the workmen wished me a happy birthday 😊.Thank you very much for a lovely stay. Anne and Kevin

Had a nice walk along the river bank on Sunday and came across the hut selling coffee and sandwiches. Obviously the main cafe was shut due to covid but the lady at the marina hut was so friendly and welcoming. She also made a great bacon sarnie and cappuccino. There is a really friendly atmosphere at the marina, not at all ‘stuffy’ as some marinas can be. Thanks 😄

Lots of improvements made. Outdoor wood fired pizza oven. Impressive restaurant opening soon. Fabulous riverside location. Cute cabins to stay in.

The cabin is cute but not the site, it was so busy it felt like a car park and there was people opposite drinking loudly until 1am.
But the staff were nice and friendly and lovely gifts inside the cabin to eat.

Thought I would book somewhere as a midstop gap on the way to Newcastle as the Mrs wanted to go to the York shopping outlet. So I found this little gem.

You can easily find the place but the road is a bit dodgy however you can tell they are redoing the marine site as there is a huge restaurant/bar being built what will look incredible when built.

As we booked a little cabin, gaining the key was easy enough, a quick chat at reception to be showed the direction and we was there. Plenty of caravans around and a few cabins.on the outside it was a lovely however on the inside had everything you need. A nice welcome message, contact details if you needed anything. From extra blankets to water bottles were provided. There was a welcome box of lindt chocolate (always a winner) and breakfasts/fresh fruit in there as well. The cabin was lovely and warm but a heater was provided as well. Everything was spotless and clean.

3 pubs are situated less than a 5 minute walk away and so is a local coop.

The shower/toilet facilities were spotless and 30seconds from the cabin.

Overall a fantastic stay

Had a lovely few days staying on a boat
( out of the water) equipped with kettle + toaster, double bed, fridge and heating! with water and toilets nearby! Decking and seating outside also. Very much a blast from the past when you have lived on a boat Will be going again . There are lovely cabins also well worth checking out on this campsite on airbnb . Found under places to stay in Bishopthorpe York . The stars are also very clear here as not much light pollution
