- Stephanie J8 contributionsTourist Trap! (Still good though but expensive)We had a wonderful tour off Gina and she was really knowledgeable I can't fault her at all she was brilliant and friendly and is a credit to the company. However it is a tourist trap and is quite expensive for what it is... I wasn't expecting loads and loads and loads of chocolate but we probably got about 60ps worth and were rushed at the end making the lollipops because there was a man dressed as Santa coming in to do another workshop. Good tour Great tour guide but very overpriced for what it isGina is great! Thanks for coming, Stephanie. - Jessica RSheffield, United Kingdom23 contributionsFun and interestingWe went with our children aged 7 and 9 and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Our tour was lead by Jake who was fun, friendly and interesting. We enjoyed learning about the history of confectionery in York, how chocolate is made and sampling different types of chocolates. It was quite expensive (but so a everything for tourists in York). Would recommend.Jake will be so pleased you had such a nice time on your visit! We hope you can come again, and thank you for such a nice review! - Sylvia MBournemouth, United Kingdom5 contributionsFun and engagingFriendly staff, very wheelchair accessible, amazing chocolates, and the truffle rolling experience was super fun! I would say for the staff to maybe not close the gift shop before the late-night customers have come out of the tour as this meant being unable to purchase anything from the shop afterward. It was also really fascinating to learn about the historical past of Rowntree's and just how many confectionaries the company pioneered. That is great to hear Sylvia, and thank you for your feedback about opening hours we will make sure to see what we can do about that! I hope you can come back and visit us again. - KahumptonKahuku, Hawaii294 contributionsKatie was great,Me and my wife were walking towards the shambles and decided to give it a shot. So glad we did. Our tour consisted of 4 other adults which I guess is a pretty small group. Katie did an amazing job throughout the tour. Making us laugh and telling the history of York chocolate like she really enjoyed it. Making our own lollipops and getting huge amounts of chocolate at the end(because of our small group) was the icing on the cake. Definitely recommended for couples, singles or the whole family.Katie will be so pleased you had such a nice tour, our tour guides are great, and we really appreciate your feedback about how great they are. We hope you can come again. - Phil C3 contributionsA chocaholics dreamAn interesting place to visit, though slightly more expensive than other tourist locations in York. It explains the history of chocolate (with samples), how chocolates are made, and demonstrations by professionals. I came away knowing a lot more about chocolate. Thanks for coming chocaholic! Really glad you enjoyed it so much. We hope you can come again soon. - Madras00London, United Kingdom124 contributionsYummy tripTour guide knew his stuff. Lots of interactive experiences, great for adults and children. Got to taste cacao, listen to pictures on the walls (Harry Potter like) and taste chocolate in the style of when it was first made. At the end of the experience got to make a chocolate lollipop. A great tour. Only, tiny negative, was that it did seem a tiny rushed, and I think this was because the amount of tours - every 15 minutes. That is great to hear, and thank you for your feedback we really appreciate it! I hope you can come back and visit us again. - KerryGbGorleston-on-Sea, United Kingdom8 contributionsDisappointingI have to say I was disappointed with this tour. Only there just under an hour, felt rushed through the tour. Didn’t think it was value for money. Will not return. Felt there was a lot more that could’ve been said and done with the history. I know I compared it to a visit to Cadbury World a few years ago.Sorry to hear that Kerry, but we appreciate your feedback. Thank you for coming and giving letting us know how your tour went. - Vicky IDoncaster, United Kingdom85 contributionsPassed some timeWent for a day to York and decided to try the chocolate story. We arrived early and was greeted by Katie who asked us to take a seat in the cafe until it was nearer our time slot. Bang on time we all lined up to go in the lift, my son does not like lifts and Katie was more than happy to take us a different way up stairs where our tour guide waited for us. Our tour guide Ellie was fantastic, very knowledgeable and friendly. She checked if we had an allergies before giving out various chocolates along the tour. We enjoyed the history of kitkats and making our own lollipop. All in all we spent an hour inside and it passed the time along to our next booking. Its not cadbury World but it does its best with the limited space available in York centre. Thanks for coming Vicky, glad your family enjoyed the visit! Do come again and thank you for the lovely review. Arrived in York on Monday afternoon and straight away booked chocolate story. We were greeted by a lovely lady and were asked to be seated while we waited on out tour guide. My daughter and I loved the chocolate experience, very interesting. Lovely young gentleman touring us with great sense of humour along the way. Ended tour making our own chocolate delight 🍭🍫 Definitely would highly recommend 👌 😋

What 'make your own chocolate' classes do they do? Is chocolate making included with the tour?
Paul S

There was a demonstration on how to make the Chocolate then at the end there was a chance to make and decorate your own chocolate lolly.
How can you reserve in advance a york pass place ? The online system will only allow ticket purchases and not york pass place reservations like Jorvik and York Minster do!

You need to telephone the chocolate experience yourself and tell them you’ve got a York pass and they’ll send you an email.

Yes, it is about a 5-10 minutes walk. All of the main attractions in York are all within the city wall and easily able to be walked between within 5-15 minutes maximum.

Many thanks

Per person.
You don’t pay for the parking. Just pay the driver for a return ticket per person when you board.
