Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We met Mad Alice outside William's College for the start of our 8pm tour. She knew the names of every person booked in (and that one party had come a week early!). She was really entertaining and very knowledgeable. The tour was great value for money and felt like we wandered around the entire city. Would thoroughly recommend.

This was our first time on the bloody tour (but it won't be our last) & must admit that when the heavens opened prior to the tour we did consider bailing out, but so glad we stuck with it. Mad Alice was both informative, entertaining and made the effort to talk to and involve everyone on the tour, making you feel welcome. We learnt so much about the history of York and its notorious & infamous characters, so much more than just ghost stories and the pride Alice has in her city shone through. I also felt that Alice was taking the safety of her charges seriously, choosing appropriate places along the tour for us to be able to socially distance and making sure we were all aware of traffic en route. I would most definitely recommend this tour for all ages and abilities, we didn't feel hurried along and the distance covered wasn't excessive, all in all an excellent way to spend an evening. Thank You Alice, don't ever change from the mad woman you are 😁

Brilliant tour, spookily starting with "Mad Alice" meeting everyone one who booked not looking at tickets just knowing their names. You visit various locations around the city where Alice tells tales of ghosts murders and ghastly goings on. She uses theatrical skills to enhance the stories and involves members of the the party to enhance your experience. Really impressed that she made an effort to chat to everyone individually whilst walking between venues. If visiting York I can highly recommend this enjoyable tour.

Alice held everyone’s attention with fun ghostly stories as we walked around York early evening. She was great the way she engaged with the group and mostly made it a fun entertaining evening. Not to be missed.

I did this tour recently and after having a few different ghost walks over the years as this was fairly new i though i would give it a try....the lady arrived to take the tour and had managed to memorise most of the tours names by asking where everybody was from.....during the tour which in itself was fantastic she took the time to speak to everybody ask them about there visit to the city etc etc. The storytelling was great and obviously very knowledgeable of the city and its history. At the end of the tour she thanked us all for attending and took time to help any guest with advice on anything and everything about York including directions, advice on places to go, where to get tickets and any other questions about peoples time in York. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody regardless if you have done a Ghost Walk before......

We went on "Mad Alice's" Tour of York on a cold, dark and damp evening in October but the hour and a half absolutely flew by. Alice is very welcoming and when walking between sites made sure that she chatted with all individuals/parties in the group. She is very knowledgeable and entertaining and we all came away having learned something that we didn't know, whilst also being very entertained. We are living in very difficult times and Alice made sure that we maintained social distancing and made the tour as Covid-safe as she possibly could. We have been on other ghost walks/walking tours in York before but this is definitely the best. If you are in York for a few days Alice also has a lot of local knowledge about other activities/events which are taking place so it's worth booking on early in your visit and following some of her other recommendations. Thank you Alice. Highly Recommended.

Ive done the tour twice now, once with friends on a girls weekend away, and this time with my husband. Brilliant both times! Each one slightly different and tailored to the audience, lots of children this time so some of the more "adult" stories were left out 😁 Alice is fantastic, so knowledgable and you can tell she just loves doing the tours. And im still amazed she remembers everybodys names in the group! Would definitely recommend for any age.

Mad Alice is not quite as mad as she sounds, instead she’s astute, witty, has a memory which would blow Einstein’s mind and is simply perfect at what she does! Loaded with endless historical info Mad Alice makes this tour an absolute gem! It’s a MUST on your list of things to do in York.

Back home from York and couldn't wait to write this review because this tour became the staple of our visit to York. Mad Alice needs to be on stage because she is HILARIOUS! Audience participation was fantastic - even taking the time to remember most names in the group. Her stories were harrowing and the "come full circle" story about how two stories are linked made me want to come home and download some related audio books!
She delivered it with so much energy and wit as if it was a first performance - clearly enjoying what she does.
If we ever visit York again, we'll definitely be seeing her again! Sending our best wishes from "Liverpooooooool!"

Alice took the time to speak to and get to know every member of the group as we were walking from location to location. Giving us facts and information about things as we passed. As we stopped for the more detailed breakdowns it was very interactive, asking questions to the group rather than just lecturing. She truly embodied the character of 'Mad Alice' and had a chunk of us (literally) crying with laughter at so many points, involving the group in 'demonstrations' as we went. I cannot say enough positive things about this tour but I do advise wearing flat shoes (I made the mistake of not, and wow could I feel it afterwards). I'd give 10/10 for everything and should I come back to York I will be booking the tour again!
