Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked tickets for the `Christmas in Never land' at a cost of £46.00, including car parking, which I hasten to add is the `off peak ' cost. If you choose to visit in December it will hit your wallet considerably harder.
In spite of having an allocated time slot we still ended up in an enormous queue waiting outside the hall, in the freezing cold and biting wind, for well over twenty minutes. And when we finally got to enter we inched around the displays due to the sheer number of people present!
Impressive though some of the displays were there didn't seem to be many of them and as the rest of the stately home was off limits it was all a bit of a disappointment.
We had a look around the gift shops but everything was grossly overpriced. As for the café, the food and drink was good but in keeping with the general theme of Castle Howard extremely expensive.

THIS REVIEW IS IN THE WRONG PLACE We don't run a Castle Howard tour and haven't for several years. Please kindly move this review to the Castle Howard page. Thank you.

Chris was my Yorkshire tour guide for two days, one in the Moors and the other in the Dales. I could not have asked for more. This is his home turf and he knows its history as well as stopping spots off the beaten path for photo ops. He varies countryside touring with stops in villages and special visits to old churches, abbey ruins, steam train rides, and the Wensleydale creamery. His van only takes 7 passengers so he can travel onto those narrow country roads that are in the heart of Yorkshire. And he is lots of fun.

Not many day tours in the market provided a visit to the heather cladded Yorkshire Moorland as well as a steam train ride. We joined this tour, not only witnessed the pros of a small group (6 passengers in our trip) in an 8-seater minivan, which could move freely in country lanes in Whitby and Hemsley, but also enjoyed the advantage of arrived at the doorsteps of Whitby Abbey, instead of climbing up the 199 steps, as well as traveling on a classic steam train from Lewisham to Goathland, together with hundreds of school children on a school outing 😀 of course, the visit to Byland Abbey and hotel pick up are bonuses. Fantastic.

Really good trip pickering to whitby but disappointing that steam train not used on either journey there or back.
You need to get to pickering early to get good seats as normally mobbed on all journeys
Ticket purchased also last till following year on date off purchase every good if intending on return to the area next year
All in all great journey and worth the money

This was a wonderful tour. Chris was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the sites. It was a small group, and being picked up and dropped off at our hotel was so convenient; so it was like having your own personal tour guide. There are dramatic landscapes and poignant moments in historic churches and ruins. There were enough stops along the way, and enough time in Whitby to do your own thing. I would highly recommend this tour! KL

This service was just terrific! I communicated with the owner Chris via email and he provided thorough explanations of his services and was very easy to work with. We were able to plan our own itinerary and our guide added a few nice surprise stops along the way. Our guide, Peter, was knowledgeable, pleasant, accommodating and just a very nice guy. Chris and Peter made everything easy. Combing a tour with transportation between cities is a great idea; it made for a productive, interesting and pleasant day. The older we get, the less we want to schlep our luggage on and off trains and from train stations to hotels. This combination tour/trip was the perfect solution to our transportation troubles!

This was the most amazing day ever! We were all All Creatures Great and Small fans so it made for a great day seeing all the sites. Chris was so accommodating! Because it was pouring rain at the abbey, he offered to bypass that stop and allow us to visit the Harriet Museum in Thirsk. This was absolutely wonderful! Because it was a small group, we were able to make a change like that. This tour is a bit more than others, but it is worth every penny to be able to focus on what you really want to see! I would do it again if I come back to York!
