The beautiful Grade II* Listed Delapre Abbey, just one mile from Northampton town centre, is entering an exciting new phase in its history.

Following the success of a Heritage Lottery Fund application in 2013, a £6.3 million project is underway to repair and restore this previously listed "Building At Risk".

The Delapre Abbey Preservation Trust is working with Northampton Borough Council to involve the community and volunteers in the restoration project and will then manage and operate the Abbey for the benefit of the public.

The Abbey will be opening its doors to visitors for the first time in its 900 year history in spring 2017, with The Trust managing the building as a fantastic historic venue for local, national and even international visitors.

Absolutely worth a visit for any age. If a young family, dog owners or retired, you will find peace and tranquility here. The old walled gardens are lovely, and i cannot wait for the restaurant to open, this will make the visit perfect!

We visited the site and saw what they were hoping to do. We intend going back in the spring to the tea rooms. It sounded a unique expereience

A very historic building with walled garden cafe and greenhouses to explore. It's surrounded by parklands and a golf course, with lots of walks and things to explore.

This park has extensive grounds walks & a huge lake, it also has a golf club plus a boat club with water skiing. It can also be a really nice walk which feels like it is the county side. Plenty of room for kids to play a number of different games, football & hide & seek to name just a... More

My company had offered help to tidy and restore the grounds....great team building day. On the whole the grounds are lovely and a beer festival was held in October 2015, which was lovely with a Hog Roast. Once the grounds and the building are renovated the Abbey will be lovely for Family and walks. Worth a Stroll

Wonderful place that is presently being refurbished. The gardens are very special with many different plants and trees leading to a large lake. All congratulations to the staff who have made this place a little treasure and is definitely my favourite place to visit in Northampton. Highly recommended.

Currently undergoing a lot of works. But the gardens and walk to lake are still available. Such a beautiful area of interest.

Although the gardens still look lovely the Abbey is undergoing extensive renovations so is closed to the public at the moment. We did look for the tea room but it was no longer in operation. I believe a conservatory will be built (hopefully in character with the Abbey) which will house a tea room but this is not expected until... More

As other reviews have already detailed, this is an oasis of calm within Northampton and you can walk quite a long way around the grounds, then the lake with the water-ski club and under the A45 to the white-water rafting centre and along the Nene. I was disappointed that the cafe was closed whilst the abbey is being refurbished but... More
