- Victoria F24 contributionsAmazing Alpacas!!Had an amazing morning today visiting the beautiful Alpacas. We were guided around by Paul who told us all about them, their names, personalities and lots of info about his friendly herd. We got to hang out with them in their paddocks and feed them. They were all very calm and inquisitive. Thanks Paul for a memorable morning!!Delighted that you all had a memorable morning. I had great fun hosting you all. And thank you for posting the fabulous pictures.Written 30 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 24 October 2023
- Sarah K2 contributionsAlpaca fun!Visited this morning and it was declared amazing by all involved. We were taught so much about these wonderful animals by very patient and knowledgeable Paul. The only problem is now that three of the four of us want to keep some alpacas of our own. We will be back, if we can, J & A are keen to plan something so we can see some babies! With apologies for the delay - a big thank you! Babies are now just a couple of months or so away - by then hopefully you will have won the battle to keep some?? - Michael K2 contributionsGreat visitMy Mum had bought a voucher for myself and my partner to go to for an encounter so I did not know what to expect and how I would find it. With hindsight I should have had no reservations at all, it was honestly great fun. Paul was great to talk to and the 90 minutes we were there with the animals was really fun. Looking to go back with family when we get the chance.Glad you enjoyed your present so much Michael. - Libby W1 contributionBest day of my life!Best day of my life ever. We spent over an hour with 40 alpacas - feeding them, petting them and getting to know all of their individual personalities. Our host was so welcoming and informative and made our visit extremely personal. The group is contained to your booking party only giving you a fully immersive experience. I want to go back every month. Brilliant day! Thank you for making my year! Can’t believe I got a kiss from Burgess! Thanks Libby - Kathryn really enjoyed introducing you both to our herd too. Burgess is a real ladies man. He has several of our females pregnant for the first time and they will start to arrive this spring. We’d love to welcome you back to meet them.Written 25 February 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 February 2024
- Caroline & Ian29 contributionsAbsolutely amazing experienceAbsolutely amazing experience! Myself and my husband arranged a visit to see the Alpaca family whilst staying nearby. We were met by Kathryn who took us on our Alpaca Encounter. Her knowledge, expertise and care for these animals shone through and it was clear to see how much she loves them and enjoys what she does. We were given a bag of food each and told how to feed them and how they could behave. (They all appeared very calm) whilst feeding them Kathryn told us so much information. We were allowed to stroke them, cuddle them and even managed a nose bump (kiss) from one of them. My husband was reluctant at first to do this but said how much he'd enjoyed it and we both loved the whole experience which lasted 1 hour 30 minutes. It was a personal experience just for us, which made it all the more special. 100% recommend this to anyone. We would also recommend suitable boots for wet conditions. Thank you Kathryn Caroline & IanThanks to you both for the lovely review and the great pics. We are slowly drying out and first cria are due within the month. Yes all our Encounters are now bespoke to one visiting group - which seems to work well. - FamilyvontrapNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom36 contributionsMagical!!!Booked via telephone, really easy process. Received an email with all our details for the visit. And what an amazing experience we had!!! To be up close to these beautiful animals was a dream come true. Met on arrival by Paul who has the most fantastic amount of knowledge and experience with Alpacas and no question that we had couldn’t be answered. The views are beautiful, the one to one time we had during our experience was filled with walks, talks, feeding and stroking the Alpacas ( who are the most gentle and clever animals). The encounter lasted a good 2 hours ( if not more with all our questions) and Paul was fantastic- it is an experience we will never forgot. Todays visit was a birthday surprise for my partner and we will definitely be booking again for this year as want to visit when the baby Alpacas have been born. Thanks so much for your lovely review - I’ve been waiting for the first cria to arrive and she did on Sunday! I’ll send you a pic by email. I’m glad you enjoyed the visit and thanks also for the pics. We have sheared now and lots more babies due over the next couple of months. We were shown and fed the alpacas by Paul, who is very knowledgeable and was brilliant with our two young sons. We even got to see a baby alpaca who had just been born in the early hours. Would definitely recommend. Thanks! Your boys had great questions and do brill Shrek impressions🤣 The young cria is flourishing and we still need to name her. - Hilary DNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom7 contributionsA delightful experienceWe had a fabulous time taking our 3 grandsons to meet the alpacas. They all enjoyed themselves and Paul spoke enthusiastically about them. He had lots of knowledge to share with us and knew each individual alpaca. Our youngest grandson is 4 and was the most wary of the alpacas but he still told us afterwards that he had a good time. The weather had been very wet previous to our visit so I'm very pleased that we followed the advice on the website and wore wellies. Thanks Hilary - I’m glad you and the boys enjoyed your visit. I’m pleased to say the ground has firmed up considerably but we could all do with more sun!Written 18 June 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 May 2024
- Vacation255226036715 contributionsAlpaca fun 110%Absolutely wonderful way to spend a couple of hours.. Such an interesting tour of the farm. Up close and personal with Alpacas what's not to love. Paul who runs the business with his wife is full of knowledge and takes great care with the animals but he also shares very interesting facts which made the whole tour so fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable. Would definitely highly recommend this business. Go meet the lovely girls especially and boys you won't be disappointed. ❤️Thanks so much for your kind review and recommendation. Sometimes you arrange a surprise but slightly unsure how it will be received. This was a MASSIVE hit ! I contacted Paul only the day before but a booking was not an issue, probably because a cold, windy day in early March is not for everyone. For us the experience pushed any weather factors out of sight. With good coats and wellies we met Paul and some of his Alpaca family in a wet soggy field where the interaction was a wholly new and brilliant occasion. A very comprehensive narrative of Alpaca life and how the venture came about is told by Paul whilst intermingled with feeding, hugging and cute picture opportunities galore. After meeting the adult Alpaca boys and girls we moved onto the youngsters which are so well behaved, they allowed us to walk them with ease and absolutely no fear and more picture oportunities for our memories of a wonderful experience.
A massive thak you to Paul and also Catherine (who had joined us towards the end) for making a lovely memory for my Wife Karen and I to take away and share.
A simple message ...........you simply must do this ! All ages will enjoy.

Ian - we are so grateful for your comprehensive and warming review. The good news is the paddocks are beginning to dry up but you were brave booking this week. Delighted you both had such a good time - we make a big thing of you seeing the alpacas in their normal routine as much as possible. The weanlings are still in need of a bit more halter training but future visitors will help with this.
I trust the rest of the birthday celebrations went well too and you had a smooth journey home - thanks again from Kathryn and I

I stumbled upon this venue after a search for something to do 'outdoorsy' in Northumberland with my 5 year old grandson. A quick phone call to Paul, and our visit was arranged for a Sunday morning.
We duly arrived, and followed the C19 policy in place and washed hands, and off we went to visit these adorable creatures. I knew I loved alpacas, but meeting them up close and personally sent my heart into overdrive. They are so gentle, funny and ridiculously pretty, they are nosey and so engaging. Paul gave us a really interesting rundown on their lineage, welfare, husbandry and what he didn't know probably wasn't worth knowing.
We got the opportunity to feed the young adolescents and pregnant females, then we met the handsome males, then went to feed and interact with the mum's and their crias [babies], all delightful and just adorable. We then went to see the even younger crias and their mums, and finally we were honored to meet the sweetest miniature donkeys Mr Jones and Jonjo.
We finished up by washing our hands in the shed, and I couldn't resist buying some fabulous alpaca yarn from Kathryn, who told us about the spinning and dyeing process.
I would highly recommend a visit to Alpaca Encounters for any age, the alpacas are just adorable and gentle creatures, that you can't help falling in love with, and coupled with Paul and Kathryn's obvious passion and enthusiasm for their herd made this a wonderful Sunday morning adventure.

We visited on 27th of March and this was a wonderful opportunity to meet the alpacas in their own environment, with them interacting with us on their own terms. Such beautiful animals and it was amazing to be in such close proximity to them. Paul was friendly, informative and extremely knowledgeable on all things alpaca! Therefore we took the opportunity to ask lots of questions. We were even fortunate enough to meet two delightful short legged donkeys and be able to pet them, which was an unexpected bonus. We thoroughly recommend Alpaca Encounters to anyone who wants more than just being able to spend an hour just walking alpacas around on a lead. This experience is far superior, in that it enables you to meet the large herd of various ages and be able to hand feed them. We will definitely return.

Thank you Lee.
Really appreciate all your kind words - we like to think our alpacas are the happiest. We do take them offsite occasionally, to care homes and charities for example, but you see them at their best here.
Look forward to seeing you both again.

Highlight of our U.K. trip! We booked a very last minute visit, Paul was absolutely great even lent us wellies! We loved meeting all the Alpacas and learnt so much during our visit. Paul was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions with enthusiasm. The Alpacas were amazing and clearly very well looked after and loved. I was initially worried that this would be an activity you need a child for but I can highly recommend to adult only. We loved our visit and would absolutely return. Good luck in the nationals Paul and your alpaca crew!

Hi Jess - thank you so much for your glowing review. I really enjoyed showing you the alpacas - sorry it was so wet under foot - it is at last recovering!
Sadly like everything else the Nationals and all spring alpaca shows have been cancelled so our attention is now on the upcoming births and then the mating season.
Always something to look forward to.
Stay safe and do come and see us again one day. Thanks again.

As a birthday treat for my wife, we spent a wonderful and informative hour on a personal encounter with the herd of many characters, conducted by Paul who is clearly passionate about all things alpaca. We met alpacas of all ages from crias a few days old to Mountbatten, a stud male in his prime. We would highly recommend Alpaca Encounters to create a special memory.

We went on New Year's Eve with family visiting from the USA, the communication from Paul prior to the visit was excellent. It was such a fantastic setting and the experience was enjoyed by all from ages 8 to 74. The Alpaca's were fascinating and Paul was a great host, sharing his knowledge and experience throughout the visit. We will certainly be back again in the Summer when we will hopefully be able to see the newborn alpacas. Would highly recommend this experience.

We visited to experience the alpaca encounter as a family including grandparents.
The encounter was enjoyed by us all. Paul was very knowledgable about the alpacas and we found out lots of new information about these lovely animals. All the animals were very friendly and came over to get fed with food that each of us had in a white bag - all of them certainly knew what the white bags meant! Their coats are incredibly soft! We experienced going into the field with the males, then another field with the females, had a photo opportunity with Mountbatten, the resident stud male, and then walked back to the mother and baby field. We also met the other two pets they have in another field at the end.
All of the animals were friendly and were obviously used to being around humans. At the same time, the encounter was on the animals terms - if they wanted to come over they did, if they didn’t then they continued to eat the grass in their field - lovely.
There are hand washing facilities for before and after the encounter and safety precautions in place, specifically related to the current situation.
Would definitely recommend.
