An unusual shaped church with some interesting items of roman and early English base. church is quite small, has a café and shop. Good to look round if the weathers a bit poor!

Had a lovely visit here last week. Lunch in the cafe was troupe pâté and toast which was delicious and reasonable. The shop and exhibit was worth a look and I spent an hour in the Abbey listening to Monteverdi vespers being rehearsed for a forthcoming concert. The acoustics were outstanding.

The Abbey is a delight to walk around. Great displays of information, guided tours with head phones, lovely cafe, and history in abundance. Worth another trip.

What an amazing experience! Thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Absolutely awesome. The Abbey is tremendous and we were stunned at the exhibition and all the information. We could picture the monks coming down the staircase from their dormitory for their nocturnal prayers. The Refectory Cafe is excellent value and the mushroom soup was truly heavenly.

This is one of the best abbeys about and with so much history. As you go around the Abbey there is information about it which we found really interesting. The stain glass windows are gorgeous. We were there for Halloween and they had an activity on for making skeletons. Well done.

Beautiful and interesting place with helpful and informative guides which is free to enter. Warm on a cold day. Donations are appreciated but there is no pressure to give. There is a café attached which serves large bowls of delicious homemade soup with bread, appreciated on a cold day.

My partner and I were staying in Newcastle and, looking for a train trip out, we took the train to Hexham. From the station it is a short bus ride to the town centre and from there a very short walk to the Abbey. It is free to enter and there are guided walks around the abbey which we did... More
