Many reviewers have attested what a great place this is to visit - the 7th century crypt is unique, the building above it superb, and the exhibition outstanding. But don't forget that it has an amazing musical tradition, and is also a place where the...More

Hexham Abbey , while not well known like Durham or York, is important in understanding the history of the north, from the spread of Christianity to the raid and capture from Halfdan Ragnerson to the dissolution. A pretty visit, with incredibly helpful volunteers.. make sure...More

Really interesting visit to a relatively small abbey. Visit the exhibition, the crypt and look at the stained glass windows. Wonderful.

Amazing stonework inside, there is a small exhibition centre and you are able to go into the crypt at certain times. The curator is very knowledgeable

Lovely old abbey with interesting night staircase and a fascinating crypt. A holy place full of history which is well explained in the adjoining exhibition.

Spent a lovely few hours exploring the abbey and visitor centre. John, the welcomer, was very friendly & informative showing the children where the molten lead was on the staircase. Well worth a visit!

The paintings in the abbey are remarkable mostly from the 1400s and are well preserved. The exhibition is also very interesting and informative even for children.
