This place is very informative regarding the time of the Romans and their occupation at Hadrian's Wall. The bath house ruins near the river show good details. The small museum is filled to the rafters with loads of finds. When I walked in I didn't...More

We visited Chesters Roman Fort as part of a guided tour of Hadrian’s Wall, and found it fascinating. Chesters is different from other sites, in that it’s a Roman cavalry fort, and incredibly well preserved. Walking through the various rooms it’s hard to believe the...More

What a change in five years. Much better boards explaining parts of the fort, a revamped museum, which still manages to relent its Victorian charm, and a EH cafe, serving good coffee. My favourite part is still the walk down to the river where you...More

Chesters, former Roman Fort along Hadrian's Wall is English Heritage run, well set out & amazing in the portrayal of a bygone period. Also, the diligence of the man who excavated much of the site (in his very large garden) is to be applauded. What...More

Beautiful Roman ruins still being excavated on this gorgeous piece of rolling English landscape. Walk around the ruins, checkout the baths and garrison buildings. Really enjoyed the peacefulness and history of the area.

A bit late replying, but I'd choose Chesters for the reasons given above. As well as being beautiful and sheltered, the site museum is full (and I mean full!) of wonderful sculptures that are worth the visit alone. Another... More
