About
Discover the people, companies and industries that made Nottingham famous around the world. Nottingham Industrial Museum has five galleries each relating to a key Nottinghamshire industry: textiles, transport, communication, mining and power. We have many wonderful artefacts and exhibits including a working Basford Beam engine and an original Thomas Humber Bicycle. And we are working to get more artefacts into working condition, so you can admire the local ingenuity and skills that went into Nottingham Lace and other exports. Through our collection, we encourage our visitors to investigate Nottinghamshire’s rich industrial heritage. We are entirely run by volunteers who are on hand to show you around and answer your questions. Adults £3 - Concessions and Students £2 - Kids go free - see website for discounted entry offers

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited with my 3 year old son who is really interested in steam engines and anything mechanical, we both really enjoyed our trip. Very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers who were happy to demonstrate and speak about the exhibits and the history associated with them.
We spent about 3 hours here, only leaving as it was closing time.
I believe the cost was only £4 for adults and children are free, so very good value for money.
Hopefully will return when the beam engine is being steamed.

This museum celebrating Nottingham's industrial heritage was a wonderful surprise on a birthday visit to Wollaton Hall. We didn't know there would be so many things to see as it doesn't look very big from the outside, but there is an extensive array of objects and exhibits to explore covering different aspects of Nottingham's industrial development through several centuries, from carriages and motorbikes to weaving machines, clocks and steam engines. We were also treated to a free impromptu tour of the museum's stream engine room from museum volunteer Roger, who really made our visit memorable with his extensive and detailed knowledge not just of the steam engines and pumps on display but also of industrial development in Nottingham in general. Unfortunately we didn't have time for the full tour but we really appreciated the time given and came away with some new knowledge and interesting stories. And I now also appreciate the difference between A/C and D/C so thank you Roger!

We moved to the Nottingham/Derby area nine years ago and have visited Wollaton park many times. Only now have we actually been into the museum! We were surprised how interesting and how much history it covers! Young and old should find something of interest. Information boards are cleverly set up, some for younger visitors, some for me much older. The volunteers are a real asset to both the museum and for me the visitor. Only open on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays between 11 o'clock and 4 o'clock. My advise - give yourself more time than you think as it is well worth a visit.
(Last Sunday of the month has some of the steam engines in steam, so I am told! My next visit?)

Interesting place to visit, made even more interesting if you happen to come across a volunteer who very kindly offers to give you an informative and detailed tour. The steam hall is particularly worth a visit. The huge pumping engine is very impressive!

We were absolutely amazed by this museum that looks small on the outside but is actually extensive and of really high quality. The Brough motorbikes, the lace machinery, and so much more brought to life by incredibly knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. Very affordable, too cheap?!

Looks small from the outside but there are a lot of very interesting pieces in this museum all relating to the various industries that Nottingham was famous for back in the day. The volunteer guides are very friendly and incredibly knowledgable. I particularly liked the lace making machinery and was talked through it by a gentleman who had worked in the trade himself. My husband was very taken with the huge steam powered pump. Unfortunately we were there a day too early to see it working as I'm sure that would've been incredible to witness.

This museum is a lovely hidden gem with the most fantastic volunteers that run the entire museum. Particularly Roger and Chris make this museum special. All of the staff have such a wealth of knowledge, with extensive information of the history, physics and engineering behind the items exhibited, and the relevance to the cultural history and scientific developments that they represent. Even if one is interested in these, there is more to be learned here in this museum the staff here have so much love and wisdom to give back to Nottingham.

My partner and I went on the Tour of the industrial museum with Rodger the tour guide. I was in awe of the knowledge Rodger has of the history and background of the exhibits and was blown away by the experience. I would 100% recommend it for anyone who has an interest in the history of the industrial revolution and pre-industrial revolution period. 10/10 Thank you Rodger and the staff at Wollaton Hall & Park for a very pleasant day out.

We had a very interesting and informative visit today to the industrial museum . The guides shared an amazing amount of information with us bringing alive the stories and history associated with the house, the machinery in the museum and the lives of women in the kitchen and in service . Inexpensive entrance fee to the museum but worth the charge.
A lovely day out at Wollaton Hall and park.
