It’s a good experience to be in this eatery hole
We have read about this pub and finally got the chance to visit Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. Interesting place and you can see it being constructed into the same rocks upon where Nottingham Castle is. It’s a good experience to be in this eatery hole.

Harrison is a credit to the establishment
Harrison was brilliant. He took excellent care of us. My husband was delighted with Harrison's recommendations with the real ales. It is a cosy establishment with a wonderful open fire. Ideal for our rainy Wednesday afternoon visit.

Best evening in a very old traditional pub
Excellent service. Friendly staff and the food was delicious and generous portion. Didn’t have to wait long as well. The pub cosy with low ceilings and warm fire. Glad they didn’t modernise the pub. ( dog friendly!!!)

Top visitor attraction in Nottingham 🤗
We had a fantastic time in the Trip with our Australian friend who was bowled over by our fascinating history. The staff are so well informed about this ancient piece of Nottinghamshire history and made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious, and we have to give a special mention to Matt and the Monday Club, thanks for a great afternoon.

    what a fantastic 'real' pub!
Lovely atmosphere, open fire, little nooks and crannies to sit in. Traditional pub games to play and no music playing, so you can have a proper conversation. There are plenty of beer choices and the usual spirits appeared to be on sale. We had tea here one night, pie and veg - it was so good! I didn't think I could be so excited about eating cabbage, but whatever they cooked it in tasted divine! Because of it's location, local ghost walks start here and it's also near the Robin Hood experience - so you may get some out of the ordinary clientele at the bar. We were drinking with a Ghost tour guide, with top hat, long cloak and skull topped staff as well as Robin Hood being propped up at the bar - with a rather large, real looking sword placed on the bar next to him. It made it feel even more 'ye olden times', I have to admit! There is also a beer garden and it's right near the Robin Hood statue. Overall, great food and drink, wonderful atmosphere and you get a sense of being in a 'real English pub'. I love it and will definitely make it priority to visit if I go to Nottingham again.

    A fantastic evening
Had a delicious meal with a large group of us in the top room. The food was very reasonable and top notch. Amazing selection of beer. Friendly and hospitable staff. A quirky pub, full of character, a must visit. Shout out to Matt, who taught us to play Bait the Bull, a game in one of the little rooms. A fantastic evening, thank you.

Got to be seen I think
Quirky historic old pub/Inn. The oldest it says. Worth sticking you head in for a quick drink to check out the place. Built into the caves so has lots of nooks and crannies and is certainly unique. We also had lunch there and that was fine. Service good.

Proper pub for an old-fashioned pie and a pint
Had an excellent lunch with my son here on a Monday. Very cosy and atmospheric, with lots of nooks and crannies to settle in and have a good natter. Had a couple of excellent pints (a well chosen range of interesting beer on tap). The staff were all very friendly and helpful - they seemed to genuinely care that customers were happy and looked-after. We both ordered the steak and ale pie and chips with a wedge of hispi cabbage: all very tasty, (though I'd have paid an extra quid or two for a bit more meat in the pie!). Worth booking in advance as it's very popular.

    A long awaited visit
Finally visited Nottingham and had a pint at this iconic pub! On what was an incredibly busy Saturday night in late November. 6 deep at the bar so getting a drink took some time! Got the sense despite being very busy the bar team could have been slicker. Sadly a Greene King pub so mediocre beer choices. Hopefully one day might become a free house. Yet worth a visit.

    Must visit
A pub located within the walls of Nottingham Castle which is a must visit if in the area. So much history, an establishment which is over 600 years old. As you could imagine, prices are a little on the high side for drinks but worth it to say that you have visited this pub. Good character and atmosphere.

For approximately five years, my group of 4-6 friends and I reserved one of the rooms at The Trip every Thursday evening. We would arrive at 6pm and stay until closing time, enjoying a meal and drinks all night, but most importantly, playing board games.

The staff were amazing and made sure that we received table service for drinks as we obviously spent a lot on these evenings.

Then there was a change of management and we were immediately treated poorly by all of the staff at The Trip.

The 'Nottingham Social Activities Group' had the room next to ours and immediately put in a complaint about us to the new management, asking us to be kicked out so that they could also use that room. This group had attempted to bully us out of there for years, all in an underhand, snide manner rather than using reason and just talking to us about it. They would block our entrance and exit to the room, and refuse to let us get past when we needed the loo and so on.
We were immediately relocated to a smaller snug room, which was no big deal, but left a sour taste as we would've just moved if we had been asked by this group.

Then the staff started to get aggressive towards us. They would make sure we were served last at the bar (yes, table service for drinks were immediately stopped), were late with our food orders and constantly whined and tutted about us having a board game out at one of the tables, but without actually speaking to us about it directly.

Finally, an unhappy barperson started an argument with us. He was looking for an excuse to have a go and he thought he had finally found one in the fact that one of our board games used tokens that resembled poker chips. He accused us of hosting an illegal gambling ring, which was obviously not the case, and then told us not to play board games there again.

I called the manager the very next day to explain our situation and complain about the service. She was unsympathetic and backed her barperson, telling us that we could come back but could not reserve a room and definitely not play board games. I even explained that these tokens were not poker chips or related to gambling in any way, but she didn't back down. She had her excuse.

Needless to say we have not been back since, and until the management change I will not be visiting there again. I will just remember the happier times.

Also, the people who run the Nottingham Social Activities group are a bunch of weak, whinging, spineless bullies who don't have the common decency to engage people in a civilized manner.

Lovely atmosphere and bags of history. Suits of armour. Cursed galleons. Rooms and alcoves built into the rock. Great range of ale. Food is basic and possibly microwaved but tasty, filling, and very good value. Quick service even on weekend lunchtimes. Recommend booking and try to get an upstairs table (downstairs is very bustling and crowded)

This place is awesome. I’ve visited it several times over the years and on each visit, I am still amazed by the building. I keep finding new rooms to sit in. Hollowed into the caves, the pub is unique. Add to the well-kept beers, it is a must to visit when in Nottingham

We completely appreciate that under the current restrictions the atmosphere isn't going to be the same as usual in any venue, however we were seated in a room by ourselves. We also understand that distancing means the staff are simply trying to keep guests apart, however we would have been as well staying home. We were tucked away in a cold and silent room by ourselves whilst other guests enjoyed the fire and atmosphere in the more central part of the premises. Husband's pint was a bit flat , my gin was lovely. Ordered nachos to share which arrived stone cold and tasteless. To be fair, the cost of these were then removed from our bill. Overall, not the experience we were hoping for.

Dating from 1189 and resting against Nottingham Castle Walls ,this unbelievably beautiful Grade II listed pub building is one of the oldest pubs in the United Kingdom and a pub that's a must go whenever I visit this vibrant city.
I love the look of the pub ,the exterior is very inviting, very photogenic, makes for some great photographic opportunities but the interior is awesome, lots of little rooms throughout this pub built into the castle rock the castle rests upon ,lots of interesting features to keep you interested, there's even a haunted room ,it's just one fabulous pub.
My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Tuesday afternoon, greeted warmly by the bar team, we ordered a pale ale each, these were served in excellent condition and as card carrying members of C.A.M.R.A we got a reduction on the price of our real ales on production of our cards,we took our pale ales into a snug room and just soaked up the great atmosphere in this pub.
My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale with a big hit of hops, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish, a classic British pale ale that on such a hot afternoon was so refreshing,it was just so good being in such an historically important pub enjoying a quality brew and sat with my twinny, doesn't get any better for me .
We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem Pub is easy to locate along Brewhouse Yard.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday, 11am till 11pm.
Most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Distinctly average food which really lets down this unique and interesting public house.

Ordered two Sunday roasts and real ales. Yorkshire pudding was as flat as a pancake, literally FLAT and sloppy. Clearly well undercooked.

I politefully raised this issue with the waitress who said she would raise it with the kitchen. She returned 5 minutes later and said that somebody had put something onto the Yorkshire puddings in the kitchen and that they had been flattened.

Firstly, I was flabbergasted that my minor complaint wasn't swiftly rectified by providing us with two replacement puddings that were properly cooked and reflect the expected quality of the roast give its price! Secondly I thought this story sounded ludicrous and simply made up.

I then had to ask for a replacement as the one on my plate was the most pitiful specimen I'd ever seen, only for the replacement Yorkshire to be just as flat and undercooked as the first. Clearly we had been lied to about the flattening.

This chef can't cook a Yorkshire pudding!!! Meat was only luke warm and they were running out of Sunday Roasts by 1pm.

What a pity.

Surely you can't visit Nottingham and not visit this place claiming to be England's oldest Inn and even if it wasn't it would definitely be up there as one of the most unusual!

Easy walk from the centre of Nottingham the first thing you'll notice about this inn is where it's built!
On entering you will be transported back in time it's with it's dark wood paneling, tables chairs, stone floor and stained glass.

A small but well-stocked bar in the first room being home also to an ancient game of "Ring The Horn" and yes, if its not too busy you can play it. A simple yet not so easy game where you swing a ring on a chain to a hook on the wall (A sticker from behind the bar if you do it).

There are many little seating areas and nooks to this place. It has its own museum and a story of a haunted galleon that is cased on display. It's a very popular historic destination which welcomes families, well behaved dogs, and offers great hearty home cooked food at reasonable prices. Booking is highly advised.

You will find plenty to look at and talk about once in.

Situated at the base of the cliffs beneath Nottingham Castle, the pub began as a brewhouse in the 12th century. Since that time, the pub has remained in the same place, tucked into the rock wall in front of the castle. Although the current building does not date back to the 12th century, the location is the same as the castle brewhouse. The different rooms spread over several floors all display various curios make it an interesting place. However, I go to a pub for the beer and I'm pleased to say that this is well kept and you won't be disappointed.

Having been for food and drinks here plenty of times pre-COVID, myself and two friends decided to try it again yesterday.

I walked up to the outside counter, and my friendly greeting was returned with one staff member turning her back away, whilst the other rudely replied "put your mask on"(we were outside in the open air?!) in an almost aggressive tone of voice.

I then asked for a table for 3, preferably in the sun and was again rudely told "you'll get what you're given'.

Now, I understand full well that the hospitality industry has had it tough in the last year. What I don't expect is the level of rudeness from bar staff when spending my hard earned money in their establishment. There really is no need for it. Despite how hungry we had become, we decided to try elsewhere, where our custom might have been more appreciated.

Previously, my experience has been positive, with good food, beer and a nice setting, in the oldest inn in England. However, after this experience, I won't be returning again for a long time.
