Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited Tolkien's grave while visited Oxford, there are small plaques low on the path pointing to the location from the chapel area.

Free parking outside the chapel.

If you fan of the books Lord the rings go and pay respect to the famous Tolkien.

You can go in free of charge and park your car inside. There is clear indications where to follow to see the grave.

My Son and I spent two days in Oxford and on our way out of town we had to stop at Tolkien's grave site. While we were walking to the site my Son started playing a song, sung by Tolkien, from his world. It was a Dwarf song so somber and very appropriate. I love my Sons sense of humor.

I specifically went for Tolkien's grave, and it was such an emotionally intense visit. I was very lucky to be there alone and have that time to myself.

A quiet, beautiful cemetery with many old, beautiful graves. This place is popular mostly due to Tolkien being buried here, you can easily find his grave thanks to little signs.

It may be hard to imagine and even harder to explain – for the first time ever I have felt such strong emotions while standing next to the grave of someone I have never met in my life. It may be because of my personal memories (like reading Hobbit for the first time in my childhood and realizing that these books have built my imagination for many years to come). It may be because of the modesty of the grave, the greatness of Tolkien as an author juxtaposed with his personal humbleness. It may be because of the heart-gripping inscriptions, the coins on the grave and the little envelope, probably with a fan’s letter, left on the grave.

Though it’s a couple miles outside town, the #2 bus stops right outside the cemetery gates for easy access. Tolkien’s grave is clearly signposted, and its simple design provides the perfect place for some quiet meditation. The whole cemetery had its own kind of peace and beauty. Wheelchair accessible, as long as you’re okay with a short roll on the grass.

It is a lovely cemetery and has conveniently placed markers leading to JRR Tolkien’s grave. The bus drops you off right at the cemetery as well. I loved it there.

Any Tolkien fan visiting Oxford should pay their respects to Professor Tolkien and his wife Edith.
The cemetery is easy enough to find on Five Mile Drive (though our GPS did take us to the wrong spot initially).

Once there, there are plenty of markers easily directing you to Tolkien’s final resting place. Numerous adoring fans have left respectful tributes to their beloved author.

It is a moving place to visit to pay your respects to the man who brought us Middle Earth.

We came here on the way back to Oxford after a day at Blenheim Palace (separate review) and found the cemetery quite easily. There was plenty of free parking on the side streets (though as always don't leave valuables in your car), and from the main entrance you can follow quite clear signs at ground level that direct you to the plot of JRR Tolkien and his wife. It is a small unpretentious gravesite with a small headstone and a low wall enclosing the plot with a beautiful rose bush growing there. Fans have left book copies, letters, rings (of course) and foreign coins there in tribute. It is simple but moving, for those who have a close connection to his works and how important his books have been in their lives. If you are quiet and still for a while, you may also be lucky like we were and have a family of rabbits visit, which was just another touch of magic in this serene place. We make it a point to visit historic cemeteries wherever we travel, and always find the atmosphere soothing and thought provoking (separate review of Highgate Cemetery coming).
