About
The world-famous Bodleian Libraries is a must-see cultural destination in the heart of Oxford. The Bodleian Library was founded by Sir Thomas Bodley and officially opened in 1602. Since then the Bodleian libraries has grown to be the largest academic library system in the UK. In its reading rooms generations of famous scholars have studied through the ages, amongst them monarchs, Nobel Prize winners, British Prime Ministers and writers including Oscar Wilde, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. At the site, you can explore historic spaces that you might recognise from popular films and TV series such as Harry Potter and A Discovery of Witches. We also offer free, inspiring exhibitions featuring the libraries’ rich collections, two unique gift shops and a lovely café.

    Amazing
Tour of Bodleian Library was wonderful! Jessica our tour guide was amazing. Could have stayed in Duke Humphries library all day just soaking up the atmosphere. I found it very emotional it was so beautiful. Jessica really made the experience, and her knowledge added to the tour. Thankyou! Joanne

    Walking Tour MUST
I went on the Bodleian Library Walking Tour. The guide, Joanna, was so well informed and excellent at telling her story. There were people from abraod in the group and she was so knowledgeable that she could link their questions to the university. She pointed out loads of interesting parts of the buildings and informed on the benefactors, making sure we saw the delights available. Definately a benefit to have a professional guide.

See if you can get Felicity as a Tour Guide!
We took two tours today in and around Oxford University. The Bodleian Library tour was underwhelming and the Guide (Anne) was not that good. The Walking Tour of Oxford with FELICITY was EXCELLENT!! Felicity is a retired teacher, who knows how to enunciate and project her voice so that everyone can understand/hear her. She has a passion for the history of the University (and the city, but let's face it, the City IS The University). Her facts line up more with what you can read on Wikipedia (Anne was a bit off with his numbers and dates). Because it was cold and raining, Felicity read the crowd (we had 14 people in our group) and tried to do as much of the tour indoor or undercover. Let's not forget that this is an actual city/uni that people are trying to get around in. She was careful to have us not block them. THIS truly IS her retirement passion. I don't think there is a way to request her - there are many tour guides and tours throughout the day. But IF you Do happen to get Felicity as a Guide, she will be knowledge, fun, caring and memorable!

My wife and I did the 90 minutes tour and we were so impressed by our guide Anne who was excellent . She was very informative as well as humorous and told us how she had met the late Queen and Tom Cruise. Coming on this tour is a must.

The Oldest Surviving Building at the University of Oxford
The Bodleian Library is a collection of buildings that make up one of the oldest and largest research libraries in Europe. In particular the signature building on campus is one of the oldest surviving buildings that contains the Divinity School. Off the Quad of the main building is entrance to a rectangular room with a beautifully carved stone ceiling and large windows for light. It is the oldest surviving building at the University of Oxford dating from 1427. The building and school have been featured in several movies and TV, most notably Harry Potter for scenes of Hogwarts. For me, it was not my favorite part of Oxford but it was the most impressive. It just oozes academia.

    More than a tour!
We were fortunate to have Elisabeth as our tour guide. She was not only knowledgeable, but a great storyteller, attentive group leader, and infused her storytelling with tactful humor. We received way more than information on the library: we learnt a lot about the history of Oxford&the university. Highly recommended!

Excellent tour with excellent tour guide.
Excellent 30 mins tour. Our guide, Jessica, was extremely enthusiastic and kept it interesting and enjoyable. The library ceiling is stunning. Has the wow factor. Book in advance - I booked online two days before and only just managed to get tickets.

    Great Tour of the Bodleian
I did the 90 minute tour, which does not run very often, including the Radcliffe Camera, well worth it to get the history of the Libraries and University, really interesting and great to see the environment the students study in, all those books and all the students were on their laptops with no books ! My ticket also got me into the Divinity School. Tour guide Steve was really good, had lots of information. Only problem I had was booking as you could only book in person, so meant going early to get a tour, as the first day I went it was sold out.

Did the Bodlein Literature tour with Jane. She made the experience very enjoyable displaying her extensive knowledge of literature and Oxford while at the same time making the talk relevant to her audience (not as literate). Highly recommended.

I have visited the Bodleian library 5 times (I take all the people who come to visit in Oxford), however, this last time has been absolutely incredible. Dan delivered an exceptional tour and I have learned things I hadn’t heard before. He was fun, informative, engaging, approachable. He has made the tour absolutely memorable.

The 1 hour tour will remain our best memory of our visit to Oxford. Alvaro was a fantastic guide: exceptionally knowledgeable, incredibly interesting in his way of explaining the history and the curious details of the building and the library, and elegantly entertaining. You will leave wishing you were a student there!

Dave was great. So knowledgable and a great sense of humour, let us follow themes that we were interested in and had such a thorough knowledge of the area there wasn't a question he couldn't answer. Will definitely return

This is a tour that brings history to life. We were most impressed with our knowledgeable guide, Siân, whose narrative was interesting, as well as factual and humorous. We would certainly recommend this tour to people interested in history and books

It was a wonderful tour with Genny. I was lucky to be the only visitor. Genny told a lot of details about the history and traditions, explained the strucure of the University. During 2 hours we visited Radcliffe Camera, the Divinity School, the territory of the smallest college and walked around the streets. It was very interesting! Thank you very much to Genny for this memorable tour! I highly recommend to take a tour and deep into the history of this amazing place.
