Think about those books, the ones that you'll always go back to, those...

Think about those books, the ones that you'll always go back to, those moments in life where you think 'that's a bit like that chapter' or 'you're just like that character', those are the stories we love.

We don't just want to leave those books on the shelf though, we take them down, hand them around, share them out and bring them to life.

All over Oxford we find unusual spaces - these stories aren't set in theatres so we don't put them there. Castles, antique mirror tents, college gardens, bookshops and factories... we'll go wherever the stories take us, and so far we've taken over 500,000 people with us.

From the thousands of children who've told classic stories in new ways through our education programme, to our professional actors and directors, you're always most likely to find us lost in a good book.

18 years, 54 shows, half a million audience members aged 5-95...we are Oxford's own Creation Theatre Company.

Brilliantly Staged Production of 1984

I was visiting Oxford and had high hopes to see an adaptation of one of my favourite novels from the youngster times. What a disappointment! No formal experiments, quite poor technological approach (very small screens), unbearably realistic interpretation. No surprises. For someone who was raised in the former communist regime, it had no genuine political references (as oppose to Orwell's... More

I've seen several Creation Theatre offerings, almost always of Shakespeare, so I wasn't sure what to expect of their production of 1984. It was brilliant. Staged in the news Maths Institute, it uses minimal props (basically, lighting and video screens) that are operated by the cast. This achieves a real feel of overpowering menace and oppression. George Orwell would have... More

Unusual space, original staging, clever interpretation, good acting, great use of minimal props. Really glad I went, it's one of my favourite books so I could easily have hated it. Disturbing at times, as it should be. A very good night out. Beware the wing seats, it's not as "in the round" as I expected and the wings had restricted... More

Mesmerising high tech production of 1984 which brilliant uses the setting of the maths building to create futuristic environment. The torture scenes which brilliantly acted and very affecting. The actor playing Winston Smith was outstanding A must see

Interactive theatre done really, really well. Lot of walking and quirky venues all concluded in a picturesque setting. Will definitely go again in the summer.

It was some years ago that we last saw Creation Theatre, but they are still excellent. This show had something for everyone and all ages. Very hard to think of anything to criticise. I don't think we will leave it so long before we are back again.

My friend and I went to see a Christmas pantomime "Snow White" and the experience was amazing! The ground floor is arranged like a cabaret (tables around a stage), the first floor is just sofas and stools. We were sitting on the first floor, and we could see everything (and hear as well). We also could see those magical candles... More

Taking some inspiration from the musical "into the woods" this 7 bird roast of stories offered a journey of wit and adventure. All round great fun and we'll played. Even offering something for those who want novel storage solutions (the stage) and cracking lighting for everyone's barn space. I'd go back. X
