I spent 14 days in Oxford and this day was my favorite. Paul and Simon led our small group and made us all comfortable immediately and friends by the end. It started out with scenic English countryside and ended on the Thames with crew teams practicing next to you. You paddle by some beautiful and historic buildings and colleges. We were lucky enough to have the bells of Magdalen College play while we were paddling by. Truly a must-do on a visit to Oxford.

The Oxford Kayak tour is a wonderful day out seeing Oxford from an entirely different perspective.
Right from the start of the day the guides made us feel very welcome. If you haven’t done Kayaking before, then fear not. A comprehensive briefing is given with the basics of navigating a kayak. All the required equipment is provided with everything thought of, dry bags, phone bags, water, dry clothes. Any potential hazards that you may encounter are discussed, which predominately means ‘Punts’ !! Oh yes, the main threat on this trip would be students of all nationalities attempting to control heavy and cumbersome barges with only a scaffolding pole to help. It’s not ‘Brideshead Revisited’ it’s more like a floating game of ‘Twister’ on the river.
Don’t be put off though, by the time you reach ‘punt central’ you will now be masterfully zipping through the gaps in your agile kayak.
The tour wends its way peacefully through all of the hidden tributaries of the Cherwell, through the gardens of the Oxford Colleges and University Parks. It’s a wonderful way to travel and you effortlessly slide through the hanging willow branches. River life is in abundance, with wildfowl barely noticing your presence as you glide past. Heron continue to hunt without looking up, and the ‘flash of blue’ signals a kingfisher going about its business. Of stranger note, a large turtle was seen basking on a floating log.
Out into the Thames and we share the water with training ‘Eights’ and ‘sculls’ and pleasure craft of all sizes.
The day is brought to a close further down the river where we part company with our now familiar and trusty kayak. A taxi is laid on to whisk us back to the start point and our car.
A thoroughly enjoyable day, doing something a little bit different, exploring parts of Oxford you would never see on foot. Lovely people keeping us safe and on track. I would recommend this ‘super value’ day to anyone.

What a fantastic way to spend a Saturday - drifting through Oxford!
Paul and his team were extremely helpful and interesting people to share the water with, providing the right level of tuition and equipment, offering info on surrounding area and making it all fun.
A fulfilling but not overly difficult activity but got to see Oxford in a way most tourists will miss! Laughing at and dodging the punts was a particular favourite part!
Great for all the family and a super way to see Oxford.
We’re off to buy a Kayak now !!

This was an enchanting experience. For less than the cost of a few hours rental of one of those extremely awkward punts, you spend four hours paddling along peacefully through nature and then through the colleges of Oxford, and out into the Thames. Paul and his team took great care of us, explaining everything clearly and with good humor, while also giving us all the chance just to enjoy drifting through bird-sung nature. The trip wasn't strenuous (I'm in my mid-60s), but was fulfilling; and was very safe, while still feeling like an adventure. You'll see an Oxford that 99% of tourists miss.

We live in Oxford and wanted to do something as a family on a summer weekend. This was a great way to spend the day for us and our two boys, aged 14 and 12. There were 3 families in the group and a couple. Paul exudes calmness and competence. He gives clear advice, and makes sure everyone has a great time, and is safe. His team are helpful and friendly. We used a "two seater" for me and our youngest: everyone else went in single seaters. Although it was a Bank Holiday, for most of the trip we had the rivers to ourselves. A great day and a great way to see Oxford.

We were a group of 3 and one of us hadn't kayaked before so was a little nervous - not helped by the safety briefing with information about what to do if we capsize! Fortunately we all managed very well and were lucky both with glorious weather and the fact that England were playing a World Cup match that afternoon so there were relatively few punts or other craft to dodge on the river. Very well organised trip - we were well looked after and felt very safe. Excellent activity and can thoroughly recommend it

I can't recommend this trip highly enough. The trip starts on a quiet stretch where you can get your kayaking mojo before heading through the centre of Oxford getting a different view of the city and glimpse some of the colleges as you paddle by. Watch out for drunken punters!! You end on the Thames, which is busy but still really enjoyable. I hadn't tried kayaking before but really enjoyed it - relaxing and not too challenging - you go with the river flow the whole way.

What really made it so enjoyable was the calm, expert help from Paul on the river, backed up by his roadie Tony! Paul was just great as a kayaking buddy, tour guide, and defender (from the drunken punters). I did the trip with my 11 year old son who loved the trip - towards the end he flagged a little but kept going - 6 miles all together. We were fortunate to have perfect weather, but I really think that this is a great choice for all but the worst weathers. Thanks so much!
