Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a great find! So interesting and my 14 year old really enjoyed it. Lots of interactive things too and a lovely little gift shop. We spent about 90 minutes here and could have spent longer.

Sorry to hear you had a poor experience visiting the museum, this isn't what we aim for and not our normal service - as seen from other reviews here. Could you contact us with more details about your visit? You can contact the museum at frontofhouse@sofo.org.uk

Took my Granddaughter to visit its overly expensive and they charge for children under 16 there is no gift aid
There are good points plenty of hands on for kids
It’s shows exhibits about the Oxon and Bucks but nothing about the Royal Green Jackets which the 43 52 nd were they joined in 1960 and 1966 serving with distinction in Northern Ireland Germany Hong Kong
Staff were friendly
I think they need to revise there pricing

Hi Stillpe, sorry to hear you did not feel the museum's displays gave value for money. We do offer a number of ticket offers than can make visiting cheaper, but as an independent museum we do need to continue to charge in order to continue to run and to help preserve the county's military collections. We also now offer memberships which include annual passes, which cost less than the price of two standard admissions
With limited space, we try to pack as much in as possible, and cover stories not featured in our permanent displays with our range of changing exhibitions and supporting events. Unfortunately our collections are more limited when it comes to the RGJ, but you'll find plenty more on Royal Green Jackets at their dedicated museum in Winchester, so we recommend a visit there too!

Very good second hand book section. Good choice and good prices. All the books looked to be in good condition.
Good choice of gifts.
Staff polite, helpful and very informative.
Museum is well hidden, its adjacent to the Woodstock Museum.

Thanks for the great review John, glad you liked the second hand book selection. We're always taking donations of books, so check back often to see what we have in stock. The shop is free to browse even if you're not visiting our galleries!

A little gem of a museum and very hands on. My two boys are military obsessed and they really enjoyed the exhibits and interacting with them. At the moment there is a very thought provoking exhibit about toys and war and definitely worth a look.

Thank you for the review! Glad you all enjoyed your visit, including the new Children & Military Lives Exhibition (open until 24th November).
We always try to make sure there's plenty of interactive elements to our displays, and we probably have more now than ever before, so it's great to hear they're appreciated!

Doubtless the very smart building cost a lot but there's absolutely no justification for charging £6.50 for the paucity of what's on display. There's only a single small gallery which is full of informative display boards but has virtually no artefacts to be seen. The management seems unaware that Oxfordshire was also associated with the Military before the Great War because that's where their idea of history begins. This place is a huge, expensive disappointment.

Hi SunBunny50, sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your visit and didn't feel it was value for money, but thank you for your feedback.
While we're working to get more of the museum's collection of 3,500 objects and 7,500 archive items from two county regiments, the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars (QOOH) and the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, into displays for visitors to enjoy, it is worth mentioning that alongside our main (central) gallery we have a number of other exhibits on the outer halls, including a recreated Trench, Anderson Shelter and an extensive display of medals from throughout the history of the county's regiments. Our staff and volunteers are always happy to help orientate visitors, or highlight section of the museum if you have a particular area of interest.
While the galleries do cover earlier military history in the county, our thematic permanent displays certainly do tend to focus on the First and Second World Wars, driven by kinds of items held in our collection, including objects, personal accounts and oral histories. We use a programme of changing exhibitions on our Cloister, Landing and Garden galleries to cover some of the stories not represented, or only touched upon, in the permanent displays

We went to see the exhibition about spies, which was most informative about espionage during the Second World War, and some famous spies. The section about Ian Fleming , author of the James Bond stories was particularly interesting. The display was largely in written posters which took some time to read . We then had a look at the other displays, which were more general in nature about the Oxfordshire Yeomanry, Winston Churchill , and a small display by an Iraqi artist. There is a nice coffee shop in the nearby Oxfordshire local history museum. If military history is your particular interest, don’t miss the bookshop with a secondhand section, and some nice postcards.

Hi Millie, glad you enjoyed your visit!
Spy Oxfordshire was our temporary exhibition covering Ian Fleming, James Bond, and the SOE. We hope to include some of the object from this exhibition in our permanent 'Secret War' display in future.
If you happen to visit Woodstock again be sure to check in with us again as our range of exhibitions is always changing - since your visit we've opened Children & Military Lives (looking at the experience military families as well as those directly affected by conflict around the world, here to November 2022) and added a new permanent Anderson Shelter display alongside additional family activities.

Hello, we would love to help you. If you visit our website there is a research facility on there. There is a charge for this service and if we have any items relating to your father (for example) his medals we would invite you in to view them. I hope this helps.
