- ethan kSheffield, United Kingdom29 contributionsGreat experienceBrilliant experience. A really genuine experience hosted by three ladies who you can see loved their volunteering positions. Very knowledgeable, and just fun to be around and kept everyone safe at all times. They took photos for me and my wife so we could both get a photo together next to Santiago, a memorable experience. Only thing I would recommend is good shoes as there is some hills. They even let us stay behind and took us to see the pigs, chickens & the ducks. Great day out, would go again!Glad to hear you had such a good time. - MariaSheffield, United Kingdom10 contributionsBrilliant placeI would really recommend Holly Hagg to anyone who loves animals. Came here (for the second year in a row) for my birthday. There was a group of 8 of us altogether and we spent about 1.5hrs walking with the alpacas and llama. The staff and volunteers are lovely, they really make you feel welcome and you can tell how much they care about the animals. It really is a wonderful place here, it’s lovely to see how much space and comfort all the animals have, especially as some of them are rescues. Will definitely be coming back. Loved it, thank you so much xWe hope to see you for your next birthday! The route we trekked gave some fantastic views of Sheffield, and it was overall just a brilliant experience. - Molly B7 contributionsWould highly recommend to anyone! The alpaca trek was gifted to myself and my partner for a Christmas present in 2022. We wanted to wait until it wasn’t too hot to do it and October was the perfect time! The staff are beyond friendly and the alpaca’s are just the cutest. You get to walk them for around 1 hour and feed them along the way. We got some amazing photo’s on the way too and it is a memory that will last a life time. Thank you so much to staff and well done for all your hard work. We will definitely be coming again! So glad we were able to give you such a good time. Guide ladies were really lovely and we took care of Santiago. We had an absolute blast with him. Definitely recommend this experience and will surely come back to check how our Santi is doing :)Santiago is rather a fun guy! Glad he gave you a good time (with a little help from us). - gemma o2 contributionsLovely trek with gorgeous and funny alpacasHad a lovely, fun trek today which despite the drizzle and cold, was really enjoyable! I am 100% now knowledgeable about alpacas now than before today. It was a good hour's amble with the little group of characterful alpacas in lovely autumnal woodland. Highly recommend.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 November 2023
- Jane K5 contributionsExcellent 5* experience, Loved every second. This was such a fun experience , I would do it again tomorrow!. We were visiting my son at university and wondering how to enjoy the surrounding peak district. I booked in advance for us to trek with these alpacas. We had two alpacas between 4 of us in our party and the trek took us through beautiful woodland with hillside scenery. You get a bag of food for the animals for the two food stops on route. The staff at the farm are so welcoming and friendly , happy to chat and answer questions and they really love their animals. The alpacas and Lama are all so adorable , well behaved and friendly all with their own characteristics, it is so enjoyable to spend time with them. I would give this experience 5/5 we came away with big smiles on our faces.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 November 2023

The volunteers were so friendly and passionate about the lovely animals and guided us through the trek with ease. A special shout out to the affectionate gentleman himself, Forest the Alpaca! Myself and my friend Jade absolutely loved spending time with him 🥰🥰 we would recommend this day out to any animal lovers out there!! - Sara SNew Mills, United Kingdom101 contributionsFabulous Alpaca Trek! What a lovely experience to meet and walk with the beautiful, quirky Alpacas. The staff were all lovely, caring and so knowledgeable. It was fab to hear about all of the different personalities and needs of individual Alpacas and one lovely (hilarious) Llama. We walked as a group and experienced lovely scenery as we walked. Definitely great for the soul! My Alpaca was called Theo and he was full of character. It was lovely too that we were able to feed our Alpaca along the route. It was so well organised. Thankyou to all involved!Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 February 2024
- Lauren B2 contributionsThe most wonderful morningThe most wonderful experience. I was lucky enough to walk Jefe, leader of the group and the most gentle soul despite his size (even though he’s apparently small for a llama!) A fantastic route that lasted a good hour with stops to feed the animals and take photos. What makes it even better is that it’s all run by volunteers and it shows - everyone involved does it because they love being involved and sharing the joy of alpacas (and Jefe!) Id definitely come again and recommend to anyoneVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2024

What a wonderful experience is Holly Hag! I booked my daughter and my two little grandchildren, aged 3 and 5, on the Alpaca trek on Tuesday at 6.30 pm. I was quite anxious about going too, as I’m 75 and feared I might not be up to it🤔.
From start to finish the volunteers took great care of us ~ thanks again Julie for linking me up the steepest part ~ they made it so interesting but great fun too. Our little ones adored feeding Gordon at the snack stops and took every opportunity they got to stroke him as they ‘d been shown. My intrepid daughter who has ‘done’ some of South America already was so happy leading Gordon along, trotting beside her like an old friend.
The walk took about an hour and 45 mins and , after the alpacas were back in their barn, we were next invited to see some other interesting animals that make up this amazing conservation project. The children adored this too, scratching strange pigs called Bella and Ruby,, feeding rabbits, hens and ducks.
Time just flew by until we were back at our car, having had an experience that none of us will ever forget!
Holly hag is a must for anyone interested in animals, ecology, conservation and of course a real adventure in fabulous countryside. The people who run Holly Hag should be headline news for what they provide on Sheffield’s magical high hills.
Thank you all again, Claire, Julie and the team.

Great experience. We came today for my daughters 18th birthday as a gift from her grandparents. She got to choose her favourite which was Jefe the llama. The team there were so helpful and knowledgable. The trek lasted around an hour and our guide was very friendly making sure everyone felt safe at all times. The llama and alpacas were all well behaved and loved the food stops we took for them. Would definitely recommend the trekking here it was great value for money and an experience my daughter will never forget.

We visited Holly Hag today for the alpaca treck and what a fabulous day we had. Well organised and paired with a alpaca to suit your needs, we had the two mischievous ones and had lots of fun. We were led up through the woods and walked for around an hour with a group of about 10 alpacas. We were able to stop and feed them as we all got a bag of food, time was given for pictures and selfies we all definitely enjoyed it. We will be back for sure thank you for doing such a fabulous job and looking after them so well.

Pre book well in advance. Can be booked up for months. A stout pair of comfy walking shoes/ boots. There is a lot of uphill walking.
Took my son for his birthday and it was his best birthday ever.
You can choose your alpaca to the temperament you want. Some are cuddly, some are aloof. All are gorgeous.
You then set off in a specific order, a long walk through woods and on paths, totally relaxing. We just didnt want the walk to end. In the shop you can buy wool from the alpacas, or cards etc. I can thoroughly recommend this activity. I will certainly be going again, brilliant for children.

Had a visit today with my granddaughter who is 13 today I booked an Alpaca trek for her and we had a fabulous time walking Thomas who behaved like a perfect gentleman. Claire told us the background to the farm and how it came to be and introduced the Alpacas too us explaining each of their different personalities and then we chose who we wanted to walk. We had a lovely walk through the countryside overlooking Rivelin Valley with a couple of poo stops and snack stops (for Thomas) along the way. Alpacas are such gorgeous gentle animals and we had the best time and the cost of the trek goes back to the community farm which is run by dedicated volunteers.
Highly recommend a visit and trek with these beautiful animals.

After having a reccommendation by a friend, I booked an alpaca trek for my boyfriend's birthday and because of the quality of the experience will definitely be back again!
The volunteers were absolutely wonderful; calm, knowledgable, and friendly, we left the farm with a newfound adoration for alpacas alongside a deep respect for the work they do there, motivated by a clear love for animals and people, that ensure nobody is left feeling unattended to.
The route is scenic and incredibly peaceful: but do be prepared for a trek! The uphill sections, however, I found the most enjoyable as it was fun to watch my alpaca navigate the terrain. Individual to my experience, I headed the pack with Trelawny (arguably the most beautiful of the herd) and found the experience all the more rewarding for the trust I felt we built together
Their Covid-19 social distancing was well-implemented, and refreshingly sensible.
A big thank to you to all the volunteers at Holly Hagg. We will absolutely be back again!

A beautiful evening and a gentle walk around the Riverlin valley. The Alpacas are all wonderfully cared for , and although used to humans they are individuals with distinct personalities. Once they get used to you they will start to trust you and some will let you stroke them and touch their necks and shoulders. The younger ones coats are silky soft .Jepe the llama has a much coarser coat . You are encouraged to feed them which is fine although there incisor teach point forward and can feel a little bit rasping so some small children might not like it. Teddy our Alpaca also could give you a nip if he felt the food wasn’t coming fast enough.
The community farm with pigs, hens, ducks as well as the llama/Alpacas also has a vegetable plot and greenhouse growing a variety of fresh vegetables.
The visit is educational but also a great opportunity to get up and close to these gentle animals.

Great experience all round and the fact that it is a community based project makes it even better. The alpacas and lama are so much fun to walk with.
As the trail is through woods and also up and down the hills makes it even better than just walking down a flat trail.
The volunteers are very passionate about the project and you get a full background of the project, not just a walk with the alpacas. The pre walk safety talk gives you exactly what you need to have the confidence and knowledge needed to enjoy the walk.
If you are think of booking just do it you won’t regret it.

Had a gift voucher for my 50th birthday before lockdown and couldn't wait to use it so today was the farm's first alpaca trek since then which my sister and I were lucky to book on. It was well worth the wait! The team are all very organised Covid wise and are very keen that you keep socially distanced throughout the trek - which is a little tricky when trying to persuade an alpaca but they are all lovely and have their own personalities which you learn about at the very informative talk before the trek. I was lucky enough to be paired with Santiago who is quite a character but loves a stroke! The trek is quite steep and hard going in parts but we were very lucky with the weather. All in all we had an amazing time and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get up close with nature.

The experience was amazing! We had a lovely welcome to the area and had a brief history on the journey the farm has taken to get to where they’re at today. the ladies were absolutely amazing and friendly and talked about the animals back ground, we was then asked to pair up with our companions for the trips myself and my partner had jefe the llama and he was absolutely delightful showing a lot of character in his style of interaction. We will be returning to see the llama and the alpacas it was just an experience of a lifetime the walk was for around an hour but the whole time was around two hours you got to feed and pet them and just watch them in their elements. The actual walk was brilliantly and beautiful taking in the scenery of the rolling hills and stunning trees along the paths, some were a little rocky and steep but nothing extreme. I would definitely recommend visiting this beautiful slice of paradise and the work they’re doing is extraordinary. Thank you very much for having us and looking forward to seeing them again soon.

Hi would you advise this for a 6 year old, if she is accompanied by grandparents ?
Written 8 March 2019
Hi, sorry I've just spotted your question. It is very rare for young children to be afraid of the alpacas but if you aren't sure then why not try our Family Open Hour on Sunday June 9th from 2.30pm to 4pm when we offer alpaca meet and feed, pond dipping and meet the chickens. Just turn up at the gate £1.60 for adults, 80p for children.
On the treks we choose the calmest alpacas for the younger children and they have a double lead so an adult can take over instantly. Alpacas are rarely spooked and if it dows happen they soon settle down and an adult is able to control them.

Hi is there anywhere to park nearby or would you recommend getting a lift there? 😊 I’ve drove past a few times but still can’t quite work out where the starting location/farm is haha
Written 6 February 2018
Parking is available on the side road to Holly Hagg. No parking charge but be mindful not to double park as the road is narrow.
Written 7 February 2018
hello, I was wondering if there is are any hotels or b and b you could recommend nearby. We are thinking if visiting in school holidays. Thanks. Sarah.
Written 14 January 2018
Hi Sarah, There are a number of them around in Sheffield but not within walking distance to the Farm. Hotels nearby such as Rutland Hotel, Fulwood Lodge hotel could be expensive but do have a look at Premier Inn Angel Street, Travelodge city centre (They have family rooms as well) these do sometimes good deals. It's more lively in the city centre and they do have fairs and all during school holidays other than that there's Sleep hotel Sheffield. Regarding the farm, if you doing a trek you'll need to book in advance as they sell out. Book on their website.
