Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I attempted this in January but almost half of it was diverted onto ordinary streets and ugly industrial landscape because of the flooded river paths which got partly washed away in 2019. Also coming back from the town centre trying to find the path for the return journey once again it was closed because of block paving works and there was no re direction. If you aren't local you have no chance I ended up clocking 11.5 miles and didn't enjoy it at all. Best to wait until the powers that be reconstruct the paths.

Not really 5 Weirs more 3 and a bit. Fences blocking the path with diversion signs that go nowhere. It just ends with no signs or explanation as to why or how to re join further along. Shame it was probably a very nice walk through what it a fairly grotty area of the city, now it's just the same as the area around it.

The Five Weirs Walk is a nice riverside walk through Industrial Sheffield.
Managed to walk a few short stretches i hadn't seen before.
Great to be able to walk through industrial Sheffield especially after visiting Kelham Island Museum.

Walked as part of a circular walk and using the Trans Pennine Trail as outward. As for the Five Weirs Walk I walked from Meadowhall towards Sheffield. A fine walk if you are interested in the industrial history of the area. A good surface throughout and hence idea as a winter walk. Several information boards depict the history of the area but it is a pity that several are covered in graffiti. On the downside there is a section of the walk closed due to slippage of the path into the River Don southwest of East Coast Road and there is no signed diversion other than your own way along some grubby run down industrial streets. The Cobweb Bridge is well worth the visit.

Very disappointing. I've been meaning to do this walk for a long time so headed out today. Lots of sections are closed & you are diverted onto either busy roads or smaller roads where all the footpaths are blocked by parked cars. The sections that are open are not very interesting, lots of scruffy industrial parks and rubbish dumped by the way, It's probably a bit better during the warmer months, but then it's probably busier.

We walked the length of this path and largely had it to ourselves. There is lots of birds and wildlife, but far more historic industrial buildings along the route.
Sadly one section collapsed recently into the river, but on a positive note, without the detour we would not have seen the memorial to Harry Brearley.

My wife has wanted to do the walk for a while so we set off from the start heading towards Meadowhall.
At Salmon Pastures there appeared to be a rave with techno music blasting out of a tent with party goers. A little further along there was a tramp who looked dead but was only sleeping.
The amount of rubbish tumbling out of every bin along the way was amazing, it gave the walk an uncared for appearance.
We came back along the canal which was 100% more enjoyable than the outward journey. The Tinsley locks were a marvel.
We finished with a drink in the canal basin at the 1819 cafe.
I would recommend this walk but be prepared for just how urban and industrial it is.

I have done this walk lots of times , I always enjoy walking past places I remember from a long time ago .The walk takes you through lots of old industrial areas along the banks of the River Don . Depending on your health and ability , you should allow yourself a couple of hours , it is mostly flat as you are down at the side of the river for most of the trip .
If you are lucky you may see a heron hanging around the weirs , I have on a couple of a occasions . This does show how clean the river is these days now that most of the steel industry has gone thanks to Mrs Thatcher and her government . Salmon Pastures always amuses me when I go past it , there can never have been salmon in the Don surely but the carvings on the bench would make you believe it .
Near the end , pop into the Oasis at Meadowhall for a refreshment as I always do , you've deserved it

We loved this walk- we set off from the centre of town (the 'spider' bridge is one of the highlights) and were amazed by the amount of wildlife we saw- from swallows that we got particularly excited about (note my surname!), to ducklings- and my wife even caught a glimpse of a kingfisher.
There are a lot of info boards along the route explaining the area's industrial past, while many were written in an incredibly boring style, it still gave an insight into how much everything has changed.
Towards the end of the route we made a slight detour to IKEA and then joined it back again, all the way to the end at Meadowhall.
Thanks to everyone who invested in and maintains this walk, it is a joy for the city.

All I can say is wow. An amazing urban walk starting in the city centre and taking you to Meadowhall and beyond. You walk along the banks on the River Don and if it's during the working week it's a walk alive with the sounds of industry. Sheffield is still a town of makers.
When you get to the English Institute of Sport you can cut turn right and walk along the front and pick up the canal for a Full Monty walk back - or go in to Meadowhall and pick up the tram home.
It's also a cycle route linking to the trans pennine trail. Sometimes where it's not signed Five Weirs Walk follow signs for the cycle route TPT - it's the same.
It's a bit tricky to find the start (I've asked the council to sort) but if you are a visitor a good place to find it is to head towards the Wicker and look for the signs. Ask a friendly local and they'll help. If you're a local officially starts at Lady's Bridge,
But once you've on it other than a tricky bit in the middle where you cross over the river and feel like you're going back on yourself it's a breeze.
Follow the sign for Attercliffe cemetery for a detour round a Victorian grave yard.
Can't believe it took me a decade living in Sheffield to do this and can't recommend it more highly.

Thinking of doing this walk sometime this week. Just wondering if it is still partially closed? Tia

Yes, various parts are diverted. I've just walked quite a large portion of it & would not recommend it at all. Maybe it's better in the spring/summer, but it was pretty awful today.

Have the water board completed the works at Meadowhall yet or is a diversion still in place?
