    Lemurs worth seeing alone!
I visited earlier in the week as I wanted to take photographs of the animals and wasn't disappointed. The Lemurs in particular are adorable. I chatted to a couple of members of staff who were there and they were very friendly and happy to chat about the animals. I also visited the cafe on site (Lottie's) and had some fab carrot cake. Overall a very enjoyable day.

    Good place but poor parrots!
Good place to visit but concerned about some of the small enclosures especially the parrots. And some parrots kept alone with no company as well. The one against the wall in the butterfly house looked so depressed with no space or company staring out into the wonderful tropical environment but not being able to access it. I just hope they let them out sometimes or rotate them round so they get different experiences. The outdoor ones right next to that annoying thing where kids hit the bells with the hammer, must drive them crazy. Most animals were in better enclosures but these ones have worried me.

Fab day out for the family
We have been coming here for years and still love a day out at the Tropical butterfly house, they’ve recently built a new butterfly house which is lovely and will soon add a small reptile house. You can tell that over the winter they have decorated and maintained the attraction really well, it’s spotless and the staff go out of their way to talk to you. Keep it up guys.

    Lovely zoo!
Family friendly, couple friendly, great for all ages! Highly underrated wildlife park and zoo, expanded over the years. In such a lovely area outside a busy village. Great variety of animals, different things to do and see. Cafe, shop, plenty of seating in and outdoors. Experiences available. Definitely recommend if your around this area.

    Great Day Out
First time visiting since the new butterfly house has opened and we were really impressed. The new house is gorgeous, the plants are so pretty and the butterflies stunning. The rest of the park is clean and looked after, great for younger children. Lots of areas to picnic and play areas. The new cafe looked lovely but we didn’t eat there this time. Definitely worth a visit!

An Amazing Family Day Out For One And All
A birthday treat for our 4 year old granddaughter who loves butterflies, the family met up for a day out at the park; 8 adults and 4 young children. In all honesty we had taken our own children to other butterfly parks when they were young so my expectations were not high as they had been disappointing. However we were impressed from arrival to departure. Everything was smart and clean, gardens well manicured and landscaping well thought out. The staff was friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The butterflies, birds and animals appeared to be relaxed and happy in their environment which is important to us. There was lots to see from meerkats to a pirates cove, from butterflies to dinosaurs, from parrots to otters. But the jewel in the crown is the Butterfly House with many different types of beautiful butterflies flying around totally oblivious to the visitors. A treat around every corner for children and adults alike. We had lunch in one of the cafes, my korma and chips was delicious. A large selection of hot and cold food available and everything was clean and efficient. A great day out for anyone and everyone. On our list to revisit in the future.
Thank you for your great review 🦋 We look forward to seeing you again soon.

    Amazing day out!
We had a brilliant day! The kids loved the animals and butterfly house, enjoyed the pirate trail and spent ages on the park/bike area too. The highlight was definitely the beautiful butterflies! We spent so long in there that I nearly melted!! Every staff member we spoke to was lovely, helpful and we learnt some more interesting facts about the animals just by chatting to the staff. It's clear that they take the welfare of the animals seriously and are also very family focused. Top tip: book in advance if you want to buy the animal food, it sells out quickly and there's only so much available. (Presumably so that the animals aren't over fed.) We were disappointed not to be able to feed the lorikeets this time, but with the concerns around avian flu, we totally understand why.

OK for a small park near a city
The last time we visited was pre Covid and as a couple. This time we were with a 10 month old and family. The butterfly house is now in a new building on its own, opened in April 2023. There are lots of butterflies and this was good for the baby. The old butterfly house still has a few butterflies and some birds, but these were more elusive. The bird display was obviously suspended during Covid/Avian flu and apparently will be reintroduced. Some of the animals have changed, and there seemed little in the walkthrough. I seem to remember Mara. The other pens are as they were before. Some animals get fed and you can hear a short talk about them. Having been to Yorkshire Wildlife Park in the intervening years, this now seems a poor comparison. There's a strange mixture of domestic and wild animals in small enclosures. It's not very large and yet the entrance is quite expensive for a family. They like you to book ahead where possible and that would be necessary at peak times. Because we were out of season it felt like they had shut down. The main cafe wasn't open so we had to use the one at the entrance which isn't very big. There wasn't much choice of food, so we all ordered pizza (4). It seems they could only cope with one at a time as they kept coming singly, as did the drinks and we felt we'd caused chaos. We also had to carry the buggy upstairs as it's small and there wasn't seating downstairs. The only toilet in this area is also back outside or you have to re-enter via the shop to use the main toilets (which are for children!!). Get a hand stamp if you want to go out and re-enter. I would recommend it but know what to expect and don't sets sights too high

We came today Saturday 28th oct
Didn’t book online as it was a last minute thing, the lady on the front desk just looked at us when we went in no greeting or anything and I actually felt like we had bothered her .
No explanation of where anything was nothing I think the only thing she actually says to me was “are you paying by card” it’s not really the best customer service is it ?
The place inside is quite dated and small although the new butterfly house was brilliant, it could really do with a member of staff in there though as lots of children were grabbing the butterflies and it made me quite sad they weren’t being respected.
The lady doing the tractor ride was friendly and seemed happy, other staff around the park just didn’t want to be there .
I was overcharged in the cafe £5.95 so do get a receipt and check .
The witch in the hut at the top was picking and choosing who she gave sweets to my two children didn’t get one and they both wondered why it made me and them feel slightly disappointed either give them to all children or none I’m just pleased my autistic daughter wasn’t with us as it would of been a nightmare.
Overall the animals were nice to see but so many things let the place down, for the price I was expecting better .

Hi Amanda, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We apologise if you were left disappointed in any way. We take all comments on board and will pass these on to the relevant teams. The trail prizes are handed out once the trail has been completed and the 'magic' word has been said to the witch in the cabin, so this may have been why some didn't receive a prize at the time you were there. Best wishes 🦋

Overall this would be a lovely day out if some of the staff were a bit more family friendly. Booked entry for the second slot of the day (10.15) and they'd already run out of animal food so we had some very disappointed children before we'd even got in. The lady blamed it on being the summer holidays and so having more visitors than normal but there were hardly any cars in the car park so it just seemed that they aren't organised. The children loved the interactivity of the dinosaurs and water sprays around the park. The staff in the cafe were friendly although they apologised because someone had taken the till away an hour before closure so although they could serve us they couldn't accept cash. This again seems like a lack of organisation / poor management. The cafe toilets were also closed over an hour before closing, leaving just the dirty toilets in the play area available at that end of the park. Fifteen minutes before closing time we made our way to the other toilets by the exit so the children could relieve themselves before the journey home in rush hour traffic however they'd closed all toilets except one disabled toilet! Consequently, there was a long queue including many small children. After waiting for 10 minutes with still many people in the queue, we asked the lady cleaning the toilets if they could be reopened because of the length of the queue and some v desperate small children. She looked at us and told us no, that was the only toilet unless we went to Lottie's cafe outside the exit. I think this was just to get us out the park because Lottie's cafe was closed. This showed a lack of concern for the needs of their customers, poor planning and management.

Thank you for your feedback, we apologise if you were left disappointed in any way. We only have a certain amount of animal feed available every day so that the animals don't get overfed. We recommend adding the animal feed bundle at checkout when booking tickets online to avoid disappointment on the day. We take all comments on board and will pass these on to the relevant teams.

I want to preface this my saying that we'd previously visited in 2019 and had an absolutely magical experience - thoroughly enjoyed a pirate-themed bird and animal show with various birds of prey, as well as parrots and a pair of skunks. It was great.

It's with that in mind that we were incredibly excited to revisit today, and perhaps it's backfired as we've left rather disappointed. Our two young children did enjoy the butterfly house and bird house, and the tractor ride was fantastic (as was the young lady driving - bubbly, enthusiastic, and an absolute credit to you). The lady at the ticket kiosk was also super friendly!

Sadly, the mood was dampened by almost every other member of staff encountered seeming like they'd rather be anywhere else but the Tropical Butterfly House. Popped into the cafe for a bite to eat at about half 2 (not expecting hot food after the lunch rush, just cakes and some chips for our toddler) and honestly, it was so uncomfortable that we decided to sit outside as we were made to feel so in the way. I work in customer service myself and know things can be frustrating sometimes, but at no point were we anything less than amicable. Definitely got the impression that they either didn't want to be there, or that they didn't want anyone else there - perhaps both?!

The show was okay, but again the girls doing it didn't seem particularly enthusiastic and most of the kids in the audience got bored and disruptive which made it difficult to focus on what was going on. Last time there were decidedly more pirates, despite it currently being advertised as Pirates / Mermaids (same as in 2019). Other than some bits in the fairy garden part, there wasn't really anything thematic going on?

For 17£ a ticket it just was a bit lacklustre, which is devastating considering we've enjoyed it so much previously. The animals, birds, and butterflies were lovely to see, but overall experience tarred massively by the staff on shift. I don't know if it was just an off day, but it's really soured what had been a lovely memory of the place, to the point where I don't think we'll be visiting again.
