The Abbey Church is a short walk from the main centre of Shrewsbury. It doesn't look particularly impressive when you first see it but is slightly more appealing inside. Some useful history boards give a helpful background and time line. On our visit the heating was broken and that along with a general need of investment, could help to transform... More

We stopped at the Abbey on one day while driving around Shrewsbury. It was a beautiful building, we went inside and got some books, and visited with a couple of people who gave us good information. Took some nice photos, too!

Beautiful large church with stunning stained glass windows. The church is open for visitors and is located about 10 minutes walk from the town centre.

A donation entry system is in place and they rate it at £2 per person which seems fair. It is a fairly pretty abbey inside and the information around it is interesting. A lack of heating is certainly a problem for some in the winter but if you wrap up you will be ok. The volunteers are informative and helpful... More

This place is full of history and fantastic architecture, a contemplative air fills the place as you sit and take it all in, and you will be forgiven if you imagine brother Cadfael walking near by

I always take visitors to Shrewsbury Abbey. I suppose I have been to the Abbey almost twenty times and yet it does not pall. The red sandstone of the building is warm and the stained glass windows are magnificent. But it is the niches and the weathered statues and the faded flags and worn flagstones that I find fascinating. It... More

The abbey is a step back in time. Lovely atmosphere. The stained glass windows are beautiful. Photography is allowed at the cost of £1. It is free to look round but donations are welcomed. Open from 10.30am to 3pm in winter, but doors are closed at 2.45pm. It is open for longer in the summer subject to volunteers being available.

A very beautiful building which hints at a much more extensive past. The carving is superb around the pulpit, there are some excellent windows as well as some tombs unravaged by reformation and later puritan zeal. It is not over touriisty but has a fine little shop. Getting parking around the Abbey is easy and while it might seem a... More

Lovely church with helpful volunteers and a better than average shop. Interesting and informative. Lots to see if you like history.
