This superb example of an old iron framed building has been sat empty for many years with consultation after consultation and very little headway. The sooner it is fully restored and opened the better!

An amazing insight into local industry. There is a smallish visitor centre and you can walk round the outside of these huge buildings. We were lucky enough to get a tour of the inside but you don't get to see very much - just one part of the inside of the main mill. The volunteer guide was ezxcellent and informative.... More

The extent of information, both in breadth and depth, is absolutely stunning. The staff could not be more helpful. So if it's in depth research or general interest, this is the place to go.

A wonderful site with lots to take in. The new Visitor Centre is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Easter to October. You can arrange tours of the Mill for groups and sign up for the Newsletter to be kept informed via the website flaxmill-maltings.com . Lots of parking and friendly guides - 15 minutes from the town centre,... More

Came across the mill by chance one Saturday and saw that the visitor centre was open. Really enjoyed our visit especially having the opportunity to go inside the main building and see the very first iron framed building - the forerunner of all the skyscrapers.

So much money has been spent on consultants etc for this lovely old and unique building leaving very little to spend on its long overdue restoration. I would like to know just how much has been spent on non productive work and I may just enquire about the Dithering at Ditherington!

Had a guided tour of the building. There was a great light show the younger children enjoyed and lots of interesting historic displays suitable for all ages. There is a bat colony living in the building and we had an interesting conversation with the person responsible for looking after them.

One of if not the oldest Flax Mills in the World! Each visit different as work continues on huge Project to make it into a Visitor Centre! Plenty of Guides around to explain the tremendous Historic value of this site! Well worth a visit! Only open at certain times so need to check before going!
