Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This being 2020, we unfortunately were unable to make the tour, but fully intend to do so next year. That being said, I am really impressed with the communications I have had with Martin, and would highly recommend using his company. Highly professional, courteous, and excellent public relations skills. Also responded to all e -mails within 24 hours, despite the difference in hours. The trip we had planned has us really enthusiastic about taking it as soon as this horror is over with! Congratulations to a first class company!

I cannot rate this tour company highly enough! Martin picked us up the day before from the station, unflappable despite the delays and cancellations, and delivered us to the hotel (which was one of his recommendations and ideally placed), and he and Andy picked us up the following day for a fascinating tour of Brother Cadfael countryside, which also included a trip to Ironbridge, a stop at Roman ruins and a drive through the grounds of Attingham park. Martin was a fount of knowledge about the locations from the Cadfael books but also about the local geology, history and geography. Andy drove safely and smoothly and both were good company. We felt that our wishes were taken into account: we saw some beautiful villages and old churches and were taken into countryside to make the most of the stunning views. It was a birthday treat for my mother and we have both found renewed interest in and love of the Cadfael books on our return now that we have seen their settings. Thank you Martin and Andy!

This tour was absolutely amazing. Martin had catered the sights to see for our family. We spent the first day in Wales - absolutely gorgeous and not to be missed. The medieval black and white church to the town of Llangollen to the aqueduct were fascinating. My husband and I had our children (ages 8, 12, 22, 23) on this tour and each one had a favorite! The mountains, rolling hills, lush green pastures with sheep and active farms were things we will never forget. We spent a second day in Shropshire visiting the Iron Bridge, Ludlow, and more. We simply do not have enough good things to say about our guides: Martin, Andy, and Nigel, and our drivers (both of whom had such unique perspectives on the history behind our tours). The guides were extremely knowledgeable and connected time periods and events to the actual tour. In addition to that, Martin had booked lunches on both days that were exquisite with scenic views that made the meals, experiences. Make sure you allow Shropshire tours to arrange your lunch! Martin and Nigel even helped us sort our train tickets for leaving from Shrewsbury the next day! We have made it to the city of London today, and although I’m excited to be here, my first statement after checking into the hotel was, “Oh, I’d so like to be back in Shrewsbury and awaiting a day around the area!” (The two youngest children agreed.😊). Shropshire Tours made Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas places that are embedded in our hearts. We enjoyed our time so much that we hated to say goodbye. WHAT A TRIP!!!

I've never taken a tour like this before, where the tour guides were willing to customize the tour to cover whatever we were interested in, and where they helped us with non-tour elements of our trip. For instance, Martin provided us with advice on hotel options and volunteered info about an upcoming train strike to make sure we weren't going to be stranded. He and Andy were even willing to pick us up in Shrewsbury and drop us in Birmingham so we wouldn't have to rent a car. We really enjoyed learning about Shropshire and its history, current issues, and even the intricacies of the English football leagues from Martin and Andy. I don't think there was ever a question we asked that they didn't have an answer for. Martin's prior experience working for the town of Shrewsbury added a lot to his experience. For those of you wondering why two guides are needed, we quickly saw that Martin needed to be able to focus on talking to us while Andy needed to be focused on the road, as we were often driving down narrow roads that were only 1.5 car widths wide with high hedges blocking sightlines. We really enjoyed our time with Martin and Andy. My only caveat is that this is very much a tour that involves driving around and looking at things - it's not particularly active. We did get out at a few locations (churches, key points of interest in the Cadfael books, the iron bridge, Holywell, and of course lunch stops. Thank you, Martin and Andy!

Thank you so much to Martin and Andy, they are the most helpful and friendly people we have ever met as tour guides.
We had a complete revelation about the surrounding area and the area covered by Ellis Peter's novels and the specific locations.
If you are considering a tour in this area, please do book with these gentlemen as they really do pay every attention to detail.

In the 1970's, I participated in an archaeological dig at the Roman site at Wroxter, outside of Shrewsbury. Since then, Ellis Peters wrote her popular Shrewsbury-based Brother Cadfael medieval mystery novels, and I have read all 20 of them. Two good reasons to go back to Shrewsbury after so many years. I contacted Shropshire Tours and had great email conversations with Martin. Even though I was going to be in Shrewsbury after the main tourist season ended, Martin arranged a Cadfael day tour for me, including Wroxeter, with him and Andy, as well as a walking tour the next day of the Shrewsbury town center with excellent guide Robert. Both tours were fun and informative. Shropshire is such a beautiful county. During my stay in Shrewsbury I also visited the Abbey on my own, the center of the fictional Cadfael's monastic life and sleuthing ventures. Thanks to Martin, Andy, Robert and, of course Ellis Peters and Brother Cadfael, for making this such an enjoyable stay in a town well-worth visiting!!

My husband and I booked one of their tours as part of our honeymoon trip to the UK. Martin was very helpful from day 1 of planning the trip. He listened and made suggestions for the best use of our time while we were in the area. A couple of times, before our trip took place, the National Rail announced strikes would be taking place, and each time, Martin notified me via e mail that this would affect other parts of our vacation. He went above and beyond to make our entire trip smoother, not just the day we took his tour. That day, by the way, was wonderful. Andy was an excellent driver, and Martin was a veritable encyclopedia on beautiful Shropshire County. Theu even squeezed in a couple of extra stops for things I asked to see at the last minute. If we ever get back there, we would take another tour with them in a heartbeat.

Martin and Andy are very knowledgeable and most friendly tour guides and we throughly enjoyed our two day Cadfael focused tour plus a few extras, which were a pleasant surprise. We had a very comfortable ride through the countryside and always felt safe. We highly recommend this private tour.
They also had suggestions of things to see in Shrewsbury, of which we were unaware of and we enjoyed.

I went on a tour of the following:
1) 9 of The Little Trains of Wales
2) The Llangollen, Snowden, Severn Valley, and Telford steam railways.
3) The cliff funiculars at Aberystwyth and Bridgnorth.
The trip was excellent, the accommodation and itinerary were great, and Martin and Andy were wonderful company.
Thank you.

Our tour was individually tailored for our needs. I was keen to see my ancestral locations and visit the places in which they lived, worked and generally existed. I was able to provide the information that I was able to research. In turn they gave me a deeper level of understanding and explained particular points. If you would like an individually tailored experience - this is the tour company for you.
