Lovely team of volunteers and staff, but a little underfunded and needs updating.
Sep 2021 • Friends
The volunteers were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, but the collection was quite underwhelming. It seemed a little disappointing that a castle would have so very little about the history of the building to make space for out of date displays about what the contemporary army is doing.

We had a really interesting visit to the museum. The staff are really helpful and friendly pointing out interesting facts and info that you wouldn't know without their help. If anyone offers to help take them up on it and ask about star wars link

Regimental History with an Amazing Surprise at the End!
Jul 2021
In 1985, Shrewsbury Castle became the home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum, which was renamed in 2019 as the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum. I guess that the rebranding did not really work as everyone still calls it by the old name. The Great Hall of the Castle is the only part of the castle grounds that is not free, but the price is not expensive. It is, however, very interesting to see the history of the regiments and so many personal stories. Weapons, medals, equipment, silverware: so many artefacts. Well worth a visit. We took our children over twenty years go - this time we went back with some of our grandchildren! And right near the end is the most extraordinary exhibit - don't miss the Baton of Grand-Admiral Karl Dönitz, surrendered by Hitler's successor to end the Second World War! I remembered it as the star of the show when we first went - it still is! It is a credit to the Imperial War Museum that it was not requisitioned to London!

If you like regimental museums - excellent

Regimental museums are not for everybody but, for those who like them, this is packed with interesting exhibits. It is set in a charming garden made from the bailey of Shrewsbury Castle with benches and lawns for sitting and contemplating life.

Busting with Regimental History...
Aug 2021
A small but spectacular building bursting with information and displays....Enjoy a stroll around the ground then visit the Regimental Museum. Soo much to see from the early days of the Shropshire Militia through to modern day. The staff are all very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and will answer any questions about the wonderful exhibits. Veterans and serving members can visit for free, but the £4.50 admission charge is well worth it.

A small museum but packed full of information. A variety of quizzes for young and old to add to involvement. Very reasonable entrance fee.

Very interesting museum with some great items.
Jul 2021
We went to see the castle but there is very little information on it's history and not much to see. This is only really a regimental museum, but a very interesting one. The displays show how shropshire's finest have battled through the centuries and has many interesting exhibits including weapons and uniforms, personal items etc.

One item I was amazed to see here is a baton given to Admiral Doenitz by Adolph Hitler. It was just put in a case with lots of other items, but I would imagine this is incredibly valuable considering Doenitz was the man who was made president of Germany after Hitler killed himself and ordered the German surrender.

For the very reasonable cost, this museum is well worth a visit and has a nice garden to sit in afterwards.

lovely place with lots of history

The way up to the castle is beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and the buildings have an interesting history. The museum itself is super and has such a rich and excellent history. Ask plenty of questions if you wish the guides are very knowledgable.
