I have bought this experience as Christmas present for my family. We went to The Cell escape room. The overall experience was ok, but not amazing, compared to the other escape rooms we have been in. The room was small and initially we were overwhelmed with number of clues that we have received and didn't know where to apply it. We used 3 clues at the end and managed to escape with 15-20 minutes to spare. The room was very cold and unpleasant. Also, it would be good to have a timer in the room as we felt we were a bit "blind",

A great morning out. The prison itself is really interesting to explore for adults and children alike. Just a couple of tweaks would have made this 5 stars. We booked for The Cell and wanted to add a guided tour onto our ticket but we were told we'd have to pay for completely new entry tickets which doesn't quite make sense. An optional small extra charge for the tour would be a great idea. The Cell was great fun but the final escape was a bit of an anticlimax. It wouldn't take much to make this better, a buzzer sound or the door opening when you solve the final puzzle would do it. It's a minor thing but it would make it more satisfying. One thing for visitors to note, it's very cold inside so wrap up warm in winter!

Very interesting perspective on prison life and the last hanging in the UK. There was a lot of hanging around so take a coat if your gong to visit in the winter months. Also we missed some parts with the guide so either arrive early or spend time after walking around the rooms you will miss.

I like how you get a self guided tour of the prison if you book the escape room, no issues with the prison itself, it was clean and lots of information etc. We gathered waiting to be called to do the escape room, there was probably 7 different groups waiting. We were taken to the escape rooms and all put into the rooms. The rooms were great but when we were stuck we had to ring the intercom, but there was only 1 person helping the 7 rooms. We rang the intercom 5 times with no answer meaning we ended up not escaping the room as we didn’t know what to do next. The attendant was great and was joined by 2 others at one point but it was no fun having to wait around for help, and then the help not coming.

Our tour guide was excellent very knowledgeable and made our two hour tour entertaining and enjoyable. I have only given four stars as the restaurant, museum and gift shop are only adequate and need improvement. I was given to understand that improvements are in the pipeline however the main point of our visit was for the tour and these shortfalls were made up for in the quality of our guided tour

A great couple of hours out for the family. Enjoyed the escape room. Comparing with other escape rooms it was on the trickier side. Good that a self guided tour was included in the escape room price.

We visited Shrewsbury prison while on holiday in Cannock. We had a lot of trouble finding the prison to be with and had to ask somebody who was visiting the castle. The gentleman we asked wasn’t local but said you could see the signs for it from the top of lookout area for the castle. We walked to this area and could see the signs which gave us a better idea of its location. When we arrived we were promptly greeted and brought our tickets for entry. We found most of the prison very boring and samey as the cells all looked identical. There didn’t seem to be any interactive screens etc and were very little information boards detailing what the areas of the prison were used for etc. I do feel like however if we were to attend one of the guided tours we would of found out much more and our visit would of been more enjoyable. We tagged along with the tour at one stage and found it very informative and interesting.

The guide Matt was excellent the right amount of information and entertainment. Was good to hear about the different eras from Georgian, Victorian up to 2013 when the prison closed Also the execution room was rather chilling. All in all a good 2 hours spent and glad I escaped!!

We came last Saturday for an escape room experience but the definite highlight was the self-guided tour of the prison which we did beforehand. It’s really interesting and also sobering to see what prison life was/is like. The execution chamber/history part was particularly thought-provoking. The escape room experience was fun enough, with good actors. However, certain elements were a bit random (no spoilers!) and it could be enhanced with some more thought (e.g. everyone getting a “mugshot photo” in the orange jumpsuit). Overall though it is a good day out and I would like to return again to do the guided prison tour which I understand is done by an ex-guard.

Stayed here overnight on a self guided ghost tour. As a ghost tour it didn't really work as there were too many people and it was a bit of free for all so there was no atmosphere. Smaller groups and maybe the loan of equipment would be amazing. As an unusual experience I found it really good. Loved the idea that just over 10 years ago it had been a fully working prison. Great fun.
