Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well organised trip. £10 return from Pulteney to the weir and back. Commentary on return trip so if you are thinking of doing it one way would suggest walk there (can be done along canal which we did on another day) and bet boat back.

Princess Boat Tours

You have to wait a little longer for the Pulteney Princess as she does fewer trips than her rival boat companies, but she's cheaper for a single trip (£5) and comes with a great guide to take you along the river.

We took her back to Bath from Bathampton Mill, and the guide had a really interesting commentary that was engaging, and peppered with the perfect amount of jokes to keep you hooked. The speakers were just about loud enough to hear over the engine comfortably, but if you're hard of hearing I don't know how much you'll manage to make out.

Fully recommend giving this a go to learn some more about Bath's surrounding area, but make sure you plan your day around her departure times.

We loved this! The guide gave a fantastic and hilarious guide to the River and Bath. A dry sense of humour that obviously isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, from the reviews, but found him refreshing, honest and very, very funny.
My only negative point is the timings! The board was confusing and we missed on by seconds and had to have a couple of drinks in the pub waiting for the next boat. Obviously not a massive hardship.

After a morning of touring the Roman Baths, and a lunch at The Pump Room, we decided to walk the quaint streets and shops of the town. We stumbled upon the Avon River and the sightseeing boats. Surprisingly, we embarked on the Pulteney Princess and decided to take the hour's ride on the river with its beautiful falls, at the beginning and end of the trip. It was a lovely quiet, ride going 1/2 hour on to the town of Bathington and then returning to its starting point. Upon returning, the Captain gave us a tour of all to see on the river, the famous people that live/lived in the area, made some jokes of what makes Bath so Famous and was a pleasant conversationalist, answering questions, with a dry sense of humor, that passengers had along the way. It is an open air boat that has one level. The only suggestion that I can make is that one should go to the WC before embarking on this small journey, for there is no bathroom on the boat, and the restaurants that are around embarkation, in and near the park, do not allow walk-ins. There are no public restrooms in the area. The Princess is a wonderful way to spend an hour, just sitting and listening to the history and story-telling, that makes Bath so important. today.

The ride on the River Avon is lovely, but the commentary was too loud and really unnecessary. For a few minutes in the middle of the ride the captain was quiet and it was lovely.

It was nice to see Bath from the river and the guide was entertaining and most informative. Had a handy cover when it rained.

We were lucky with having a sunny (if cold and blowy) day, so that we could use the upper deck that gives much better views than the lower deck.

The trip is scenic and the crew are friendly. There is a small cafe menu available at ok prices.

On the way back, a small but interesting commentary is provided on some of the things of interest along the route.

One of the more interesting aspects though is watching those using punts on the river try and get out of the way of such a large powered vessel bearing down on them!

Went on the boat trip to bathampton, it was really lovely, peaceful and relaxing. Took about one hour. Saw kingfishers, it was lovely. The captain gave a commentary that was interesting. If you want you can get off at bathampton but we didn't. The crew were polite. Would go again in the summer as the river and it's surrounding have taken a battering during the recent heavy rain and strong winds.

Feeling foot weary after the morning in the city centre we decided on a restful hour with our feet up, In all truth there is not a lot to see on this stretch of the river up to Bathampton although the pub there did look inviting. Not the most comfortable trip on a crowded boat but the commentator did his best with what little extensive scenery there was to look at.
