Description:

The Little Theatre Cinema was built by community theatre pioneer Consuelo de Reyes and her husband in 1935. It initially functioned as a news theatre open from midday and showing hourly programmes of documentaries and newsreels. Feature films were first shown in 1939, the first two being "Peg of Old Drury" starring Anna Neagle followed by "Oh Mr Porter" starring Will Hay. The cinema thrived on local support throughout the years as other Bath cinema venues closed and in 1979 the former scenery store and lounge area were converted into a second screen. In spite of many refurbishments to keep the cinema up-to-date with digital sound and the latest projection technology, and a renewal of the seats to give the very best comfort levels, The Little Theatre has retained the charm and welcoming warmth of a 1930's cinema, including a luxury balcony with sofas in the main auditorium.

What a pleasant surprise, a little gem tucked away. We were staying around the corner at The Gainsborough and came upon this. It was the perfect way to spend a winter night since most things seem to close early in Bath (maybe because it's winter). Purchased tickets online, very convenient. I got the feeling shows fill up and sell out... More

The last few times I've been here with a friend but I have also gone on many occasions solo. I love the feel of the place, the personal touches and the way the staff value you. Not like other big chain cinemas. Film selection is always good and you can't beat the sofas on the balcony!

The little theatre is a fantastic cinema. The venue itself is in a lovely old building which is always nice as it's almost like stepping back in time. The cinema also chose to show both new films such as those shown at the likes of odeon or vue however they also play old films, have film and event nights, and... More

I went to see LaLa Land on early release in the downstairs theatre. The sound system was good and there was a clear view of the screen. The chairs are comfy and there is much more leg room than in many of the modern cinemas. Staff were all friendly and helpful and the pop corn was delicious.

Went to see I Daniel Blake whilst in Bath. This as the name suggests is a nice small cinema, As it neared the start of the film couples were split due to the number of seats available. Felt this could be helped by seat re-arrangement as the rows to the left and right consisted of 5 seats each. Felt if... More

This friendly little cinema in the heart of Bath was the perfect location to see a superb film. Showing the films the soulless big cinemas are too frightened to screen. Thanks

On our recent visit to Bath we were delighted to find this lovely cinema, we watched a movie in screen1, I agree with other visitors the seats are very comfortable, and plenty of leg room. "The Little Theatre" was built in 1934-35 by the De Reyes family, in 1978 it was refurbished and a second screen added. Would love to... More
