The Little Theatre Cinema was built by community theatre pioneer Consuelo de Reyes and her husband in 1935. It initially functioned as a news theatre open from midday and showing hourly programmes of documentaries and newsreels. Feature films were first shown in 1939, the first two being "Peg of Old Drury" starring Anna Neagle followed by "Oh Mr Porter" starring Will Hay. The cinema thrived on local support throughout the years as other Bath cinema venues closed and in 1979 the former scenery store and lounge area were converted into a second screen. In spite of many refurbishments to keep the cinema up-to-date with digital sound and the latest projection technology, and a renewal of the seats to give the very best comfort levels, The Little Theatre has retained the charm and welcoming warmth of a 1930's cinema, including a luxury balcony with sofas in the main auditorium.

I went to see LaLa Land on early release in the downstairs theatre. The sound system was good and there was a clear view of the screen. The chairs are comfy and there is much more leg room than in many of the modern cinemas. Staff were all friendly and helpful and the pop corn was delicious.

Went to see I Daniel Blake whilst in Bath. This as the name suggests is a nice small cinema, As it neared the start of the film couples were split due to the number of seats available. Felt this could be helped by seat re-arrangement as the rows to the left and right consisted of 5 seats each. Felt if... More

This friendly little cinema in the heart of Bath was the perfect location to see a superb film. Showing the films the soulless big cinemas are too frightened to screen. Thanks

On our recent visit to Bath we were delighted to find this lovely cinema, we watched a movie in screen1, I agree with other visitors the seats are very comfortable, and plenty of leg room. "The Little Theatre" was built in 1934-35 by the De Reyes family, in 1978 it was refurbished and a second screen added. Would love to... More

I went here with a friend to see an afternoon screening. The tickets are good prices but the food seems pricy (but you don't mind as it's supporting your local business). The seats were really comfy but we sat in the balcony and couldn't really see over the annoying glass, I had to pile up all the cushions to see... More

I went to watch Akira which I was very excited about, a huge continuous offering of Unorthodox showings is why I love this place. However 4 stars because popcorn and snacks are ridiculously expensive. Top tip take your own. Also we had a monstrous female sat next to us who wouldn't stop eating and making the whole row of seats... More

I visit this cinema when ever I can, utilising the very comfortable seating on the balcony, settees are the order of the day. on the ground floor it is a normal cinema, but the balcony, for a little extra cost, is highly recommended. There is a second screen on the floor above, the seating is normal cinema, but very comfortable.... More

Coming from Southern California (think Hollywood and all that) with its huge 26-plex theatre chains, this is an amazing breath of a fresh experience. It's intimate and fits Bath perfectly. With just two screens and intimate seating, they show mainstream, art films, and special one-showing films. They have special programs, too, such as: Vintage Sundays (great for the young ones),...
