Thermae Bath Spa is Britain's only natural thermal Spa and benefits from the warm, mineral-rich waters which the Celts and Romans enjoyed over 2,000 years ago. Located in the heart of the World Heritage city of Bath, Thermae is a remarkable combination of five historic buildings and the contemporary architecture of the New Royal Bath. Highlights include the open-air rooftop pool with wonderful views over the city of Bath, the flowing curves of the Minerva Bath, the multi-sensory Wellness Suite and a choice of over 50 spa treatments and packages.

Worth a visit but don’t have high expectations
We enjoyed our visit to the thermae bath spa. I’d expected for the cost (40 for 2 hours) for it to be quieter than it was. The wellness suite (sauna, steam room etc) was not enjoyable as it was so busy and people in groups having conversations which kills any spa ambience.

    Not bad
Came here as a large party for a hen do. It was sooo busy due to the bank holiday so do prebook. Though don’t expect anyone to answer the phones haha. When we arrived it was chaos and we had to stand around aimlessly until we were bang on our slot time. No early check ins?? Robes towels flip flops provided. The lockers are quite confusing as they kept allocating different numbers for us? The rooftop pool is ok but very busy and it would be nice to have a bar up there. The steam rooms are fab and we enjoyed the ice chamber as a group of very hungover hens. We opted for a drink and snack too in the cafe but the options were limited. When we went to leave after 2 hours it was even more chaotic and everyone was queuing all over the place and banging into people. Also no system in place to hand back wet towels it was a case of chuck it over there please. Anyway we all had fun because it was a hen do and it is a must do in bath.
    Thank you for your comments.

    Lovely place.
Really nice relaxing place. Good facilities and free provision of rove, towel and flipflops was very handy. The rooftop pool is amazing but make sure you take your sun glasses up and stick sonr sunblock on your face...

Need to sort out the billing system
Fantastic views of Bath from the rooftop pool. Warm and relaxing experience. I am recovering from a knee replacement so warm swimming exercise was a joy. I would say though that we had gift vouchers for our trip. I assume the session price has increased since the vouchers were purchased because we were charged a top up fee. Generally one would expect a voucher to be honoured as intended surely? We paid the extra and had a booking confirmation but when we booked in the system didn’t reflect this additional payment and a further payment was requested. Obviously, we explained and the extra payment was waived. Similarly, when we came to pay for the cafe we were asked for £18 although we had only spent £12. Without his glasses my husband didn’t know what we had spent but I was able to challenge the overcharge. Small in themselves but to happen to us twice in one visit, one wonders how often visitors who perhaps don’t have a strong grasp of English are similarly overcharged. The Spa would do well to address this.

My skin still feels great 3 days later
Firstly phones are banned inside the spa so no photos of us in the top pool. We travelled with a couple of Scandis who were shocked that there were no showers by the pool and no requirement to shower before entering. The showers are on a separate floor to the changing rooms - which are unisex. The roof pool was full and lovely on our sunny day. The best part was the various spa rooms - 2 steam rooms - the Georgian one was hotter, a sauna, an ice room with chipped ice to rub on your skin, various hot and cold showers but he best bit was the chill out dark room with beds and a galaxy movie. Only 5 beds so it was full often. Expensive but a very good experience.

    Nice Time at the Spa
This was such a fun way to spend a couple of hours. The rooftop pool has amazing views! The thermal waters were delightful and when we went it wasn't overly crowded. The downstairs pool was also so nice and relaxing. We tried the different rooms as well--wanted to explore it all! Lovely time, and those views! Wish we could have taken some pictures, but they don't allow phones or cameras, for the protection of everyone's privacy. The changing areas were fine and the robes and towels were more than adequate. We were debating whether to do this but I'm so glad we did!

    Clean and well organised
I usually go to thermal waters abroad but decided to give Bath a chance. I wish I could have done it sooner! The facilities are well organised, you can secure walk in. Locker system is electronic and secure. You get towel and bathrobe plus flip flops. It is really clean everywhere and does not feel crowded. Wellness area has selection of saunas, steameooms and ice you can put on yourself if you so wish. I found rooftop pool a bit cold for May, unless I was constantly immersed. Covered pool is great. There is a cafe in the middle.

    A relaxing couple of hours
We’d visited Bath for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and I’d booked for a 2 hour spa session. We were given a towel, flip flops and a bath robe each to use for the session. There were then changing rooms to get ready in and lockers to keep all of your belongings in. You weren’t allowed to bring your phones in but you had to lock them into a pouch which I thought was really good as you then knew no one would have phones in the spa. There was a rooftop pool which was lovely and an indoor pool too. There was then a sauna, steam rooms, ice rooms and some other treatment rooms. I liked that you had to keep your flip flops on at all times as I have been to spas where everywhere I walking barefoot. It was a really great spa and we both really enjoyed it.

    A must do experience!
A fantasist experience for anyone visiting bath! I would not let any of the negative reviews put you off. £40 for over 2hrs in a spa is not expensive when you look at the facilities on offer. You can also book extra treatments if wanted. Yes it was busy initially but it is a city centre spa that does not claim to be a ‘quiet luxury spa’. We visited at 6pm. When we first got to the rooftop pool it was busy but when we returned towards the end of our visit we were virtually the only people there. If you want it quieter book for later on in the day. You are able to use all of the facilities and found we didn’t have a problem doing what we wanted or have to wait to use anything. The facilities and changing rooms are all spotless. We also really liked the No phone policy! I would highly recommend this spa and will 100% return on our next visit to bath.

    Lovely Pools
We had a lovely visit for my birthday, but definitely recommend going early. We booked the 09:30 slot and had a lovely hour where it was quiet, once it began to get busy around 10:30 it became less relaxing, especially in the steam rooms which did not keep much steam due to everyone coming in and out. Would not recommend if you are not very comfortable on stairs as one lift had been out for a while and it is often quite a wait for the other lift. Aside from this we had a lovely visit, my favourite parts were the Minerva steam room and the Minerva pool, which has its own current reminiscent of a lazy river! Would definitely go if you're thinking about it, but make sure you go early!

I live in Bath and this was my third visit since it opened.
It is beautiful - especially from the roof top and the other pools, steam rooms etc are great BUT -
- very expensive,
- completely confusing and useless directions (we spent as much time walking up and down stairs to find things as in the pools!)
- showers on separate floor to changing rooms and were mixed sex so you had to keep costume on
- drinking water not easy to source without asking
- random work men continually going up and down stairs
- changing room are was like a rabbit warren, you can go round in circles and get no where!
- soulless cafe

The Thermae Bath Spa and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Located in the heart of the beautiful city of Bath, this spa offers a unique and luxurious way to relax and rejuvenate.

I am firmly in the camp with the 1 star review for the experience of visiting Thermae Bath Spa.
I cannot understand why anyone would rate this a 5 star experience.
I can only assume for the people who did then this was their first experience to a spa and they don't know what a real spa experience is like.
In the first instance once you take away the location and the fact that it is using waters from the ground there isn't a lot to recommend the Bath Spa experience. It is expensive for what you get. The building is smaller and cramped than I expected. This can get very crowded quickly. The facilities aren't that special. Both saunas were cold. When I say I mean cold. The ice room was just a room with ice. I have been to other spas with ice room facilities so this is not what I was expecting. The celestial sky experience was not great but what made it worse was the design and layout of the room. No thought was given to the user experience. The room was small but we were constantly interrupted by people opening the entrance door and coming and out. The roof top pool should have been a unique experience. But the pool was shallow and crowded. Yes you have views of the city of Bath but after 10 minutes you realise you have to leave because there is nothing to do and the experience isn't relaxing. Overall the worse this about the Thermae Bath Spa is that on entering I thought 90 minutes wouldn't be enough time but I left at the 75 minute mark. I was happy to have left. I didn't have the feeling that I wanted to stay longer. So in conclusion the venue doesn't deliver the experience it promises. I expect to re-svisit Bath but I wouldn't use the Thermae Bath Spa again.

On arrival and speaking with staff over the phone, they are not very friendly or welcoming.
The rooftop pool is lovely but really not worth the money.
Disappointing that they make you pay for the cheap paper slippers! Otherwise you’re walking around on the wet floor everywhere.
No relaxing rooms or beds which is a basic for most luxury spas.
No fresh water, only warm water fountains.
They could really update a few small things for this to be a better experience. Spa treatments were lovely but due to the overall spa, we be returning!

Going to England's only thermal water spa had to be better than average and our experience of treatments was excellent ( high recommend the Roman trilogy ) but of the baths themselves ?

Disabled access is not great but passable . The changing rooms are a nightmare for a disabled person however and the able bodied person kept getting lost .

Cleanliness of treatment rooms was super but the changing rooms less so .

Chairs for the waiting area for the treatment room we noticed all those waiting but one were perched uncomfortably.

Staff are smiley and polite .

Definitely worth it , definitely worth a treatment but we personally wouldn't make it a destination. Other than the water itself there are many better spas in the area.

Nothing Relaxing about this at all!! Definitely a instagram v reality check and in reality it is over crowded there was no seats in the saunas or steam rooms, and queueing in the indoor pool literally in the Pool to stand in the “if you can call it jacuzzi” it is just a pool with no massage jets there’s one funnel jet that doesn’t reach the pool.
Roof pool is luck worm no real view as the glass is smeared. Really is a let down. Basically baths leisure centre

6th time here and every time it’s gone down hill even more. The place needs a good make over. Only 1 lift working and we had to force the door to close. Old rubber mats in side lift that could easily cut your feet. All round the building the paint is falling off and it just all looked old, in the steam rooms bit there wasn’t enough hangers for robes or anywhere for flip flop, people just dumped them anywhere so it looked like a play school cloakroom. The roof top pool was covered in bird poo, storeroom doors left open so you could see all the stuff in them and god forbid anything happed as all the first aid stuff was behind loads of bins and things.
Had a massager which was the only saving grace of the trip. The lady who did it was amazing, very friendly and talked about everything she was going to do. Reception staff where fantastic and helpful but the cleaning staff where the most miserable people ever, said hello as passing a few and not a word back, they looked like they hated there life’s.
For the money I don’t think this place is worth it anymore. It needs a massive make over. Shame as it was really nice place to come.

Visited 21/03/24. Do not recommend, worst spa I’ve ever been to! All the other reviews are correct when they say that they allow far too many people in. It’s like a public swimming pool not a spa, it was in no way relaxing.

Abrupt and rude staff on reception, not at all welcoming. Whilst I would visit Bath again, I would not visit here!

If I could I would leave a negative.
Overcrowded .. & over priced.
Nothing more than a glorified swimming pool. I personally would advise avoidance. Would never even consider frequenting here again.

Disappointed with my spa visit. Unfortunately it was overcrowded, changing rooms were compact and communal feeling clostrophobic. The roof top pool was lovely but whilst in there we were all asked to get out due to "maintenance" water quality. Indoor pool lovely and hot but sadly overcrowded and lots of couples. Floor slippery make sure you wear flip flops / slippers. 😕
