Plenty of parking and idyllic picnic spot alongside looking out over water meadows and up to the castle. A steep climb to the entrance, the dungeons can be visited on the way. (I understand there is transport for those who find walking difficult). A lovely garden surrounds the castle and there is a pleasant riverside walk to the water mill.... More

We arrived on Sunday to find that there was a special event. The gardens were lit with Christmas lights and the ground floor of the castle was open. We had a complimentary sherry and listened to a harpist play whilst learning about the historical aspects of the castle . We explored the grounds and visited the water mill. It was... More

The crowds at Dunster Castle were too heavy to see much of the inside, but the parts we did see convinced us it would be worth a return trip.

The kids loved the castle and gardens. We came when there was a falconry display. Both kids were completely engrossed by the wonderful surroundings. It was a lovely sunny day and we enjoyed ice creams in the tea shop. Lovely shop down the bottom of the castle. Well stocked to suit all ages

I am aware that the National Trust close all their properties over the winter so it was a joy to us to find one open! Obviously as they were doing their winter clean of the rooms there was a certain amount of disarray but that almost added to the charm,. We were taken around in a small group by a... More

As a member of the National Trust Dunster castle was on our to do list and it did not dissapoint. Impressive castle which surprisingly felt very homely. As we arrived we were able to secure a attic tour (staff quarters) which was a very fasinating insight into the workings of the castle and each persons role, very Downton Abbey. The... More

A fantastic out of season tour of the castle, including an insight in the restoration work and "putting the castle to bed", with a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide, John. Given that it was November the grounds were very accessible and in great condition, and the café well stocked and great value.

Really well preserved house and castle gardens. The staff were really nice and friendly. Plenty to look at with lots of local relevant information.

Visited here today (12th November) on the off and it was very good for out of season. Didn't know beforehand much about it but didn't realise until we had purchased the tickets (from the very helpful ticket seller in the booth) that it was tours only, as opposed to the summer months being free roam of the castle / house...
