We were lucky enough to get a tour of the castle today as I understand that it's normally closed to visitors or very restricted at this time of year. As usual, the tour guide made all the difference and my thanks go out to Phil for an entertaining and knowledgeable tour that kept all in our group engaged. We really... More

We were a groupd of 4 and we had a tour around the old working parts of the castle such as the kitchen, bell-boy's room, etc. We saw some of the entertaining areas which used to be used by the old family there. Beautifully maintained. Our guide really knew his stuff and answered all our questions. Quite a walk around... More

We spent the afternoon at the castle with friends from abroad and it was both an interesting and a very enjoyable visit. The house and the grounds looked stunning and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. A duet was singing and playing carols when we arrived and, with the period decorations, it was very atmospheric. We particularly loved the accessibility... More

I really enjoyed my visit to the castle, it was well presented and all the staff were so lovely and knowledgeable. Sadly as it was winter only the downstairs was open so I think summer would be the best time to visit. That being said, every room was made up in traditional Christmas decorations which was lovely to see. The... More

We were staying in Dunster for the week and wanted to make the most of it by visiting the castle. Unfortunately only about 8 rooms were available which we weren't told about. It seems from some of the other reviews I've just read that this happens out of season. If we had been advised at entry point then we probably... More

We went here hoping to visit the castle but got Christmas entertainment too. It made our first Christmas in the UK since we were children that much more special. There were decorated Christmas trees in each room, each in a different style. The dining room was set for a formal dinner of five courses. The upstairs part of the castle... More

Plenty of parking and idyllic picnic spot alongside looking out over water meadows and up to the castle. A steep climb to the entrance, the dungeons can be visited on the way. (I understand there is transport for those who find walking difficult). A lovely garden surrounds the castle and there is a pleasant riverside walk to the water mill.... More

We arrived on Sunday to find that there was a special event. The gardens were lit with Christmas lights and the ground floor of the castle was open. We had a complimentary sherry and listened to a harpist play whilst learning about the historical aspects of the castle . We explored the grounds and visited the water mill. It was... More
