Home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years this stunning medieval palace is open for all to enjoy. Surrounded by a breathtaking moat with resident Mute swans, you can cross the Drawbridge to experience a true hidden gem in the heart of the City of Wells. The Palace sits within 14 acres of RHS partner gardens, including the beautiful well pools from which the city takes its name. In the Arboretum is the newly developed "Dragon's Lair" children's playground to tire out little legs. There are daily Guided Tours, a Cafe serving delicious lunches, cakes and hot and cold drinks. Dogs are welcome on leads.

A really lovely few hours was spent here on a Sunday afternoon in the sun. The entry fee is very reasonable and the gardens are beautiful. Lots of information about plants and trees, and information sheets in each room in the palace. A lovely little...More

This is a must and only 1.5 hour by public bus from Bath. See this after the free cathedral tour and you will have more insight into it. Stroll the beautiful gardens and castle walk. Located adjacent to the cathedral of course.

Wells Cathedral is magnificent, but the Bishop's Palace is the icing on the cake! Just a few yards from the Cathedral, the Palace offers an insight to how the Clergy and their Staff lived through the ages. Apart from the buildings, the Gardens are very...More

We didn't have the best weather, heavy rain and occasional thunder and lightning, yet we all still enjoyed our walk. We all had appropriate rainwear and were able to find various buildings to shelter in when the heavens opened. Would have been lovely on a...More

What a shame that you had some horrid weather during your visit - we're impressed to hear that you managed to carry on and enjoy it anyway. We hope that you'll be able to return in the future on a nicer day!

The gardens are very well kept and give a lovely background to photos of the cathedral. The bishops palace is very interesting with good information about the displays.
