Hidden Gem of Lichfield.
May 2021 • Friends
Witty banter and smiling faces always greet us at the George & Dragon. The traditional pub interior is clean and welcoming. With covid restrictions, picking a pub with a good outdoor space can be difficult. The George & Dragon has a large open green space with fantastic views of the cathedral spires and part of the city. With plenty of seating and fantastic table service, it's well worth a visit!

Best way to break post lock-down virginity!
Apr 2021 • Couples
Had our first drink outside a pub since lockdown (didn’t go rushing out straight after first restriction easing - waited for folk to calm down, and decent weather day!)
Had lovely visit to City of Lichfield, looking at the historic sites, and top-notch parks! Ended up walking back behind the George & Dragon, first noticing the lovely spacious beer garden (then working out it was the G&D - always thought from the front it was just an oldie worldie pokey traditional pub - and always wanted to try it!) But great beer garden at rear - with great view of the three Cathedral spires.
The ordering system with current restrictions was very clever - and very simple. Just text a mobile number on the picnic tables, giving that table number - and your order from a menu on the table. A few minutes later the order was cheerfully bought out, and pay by card. Simple but worked really well.
Had a pint of their George & Dragon Ale (I’ve looked it up since - and is Marstons brewed according to the CAMRA website). Was lovely, on the IPA end!
Great visit - dying to go back again.

Great little town pub
Feb 2020
Walking towards the city centre along Beacon Street we noticed the George and Dragon pub. We were on mission to visit the market and cathedral so didn’t go in, but we did on the way back. Such a lovely little town pub, probably as its been for ages and only 5-10 mins from the city centre.
It is very dog friendly; the public bar was full of them when we when in. As with old fashioned pubs it has a public bar and a lounge bar, both with comfy seating and fires and served from a shared serving area. It also has a very good large garden with raise area and with a hatch to the bar area, great for the summer months and with a good view of the city
It serves has a good variety of local beers, cask and bottled, spirits and wine. Food is only snacks but the toasties are great.
Although we were obviously visitors the welcome from the staff was excellent and the locals were pleasant and talkative.
Such a great find. Will definitely visit again on future visits

Had a drink here before my bus back as my friend lives nearby and a regular! Always nice friendly cosy atmosphere. Sat night was great - Burns night food laid out on bar....delish after a few drinks in town! Great place!

Its a bit of a gem

Ive been in here a few times, it's well worth the few minutes walk out of the city centre. We had a couple of drinks and a bit of food. They do bar snacks in there,we had a toasted sandwich, half a pork pie and a sausage roll, it is always nice food. Lovely atmosphere, it's a Marston's pub, but they have guest ales, I was lucky enough to have Impaler, by Backyard. Damn good pint.
Absolute gem of a pub.

Great traditional pub

Popped in here after attending an event at the Cathedral. It’s great! Small, friendly and has a great atmosphere

Staff helpful. Large beer garden ( Murray Mount) outside. Didn’t see it as it was dark

Will definitely return again

More traditional than the chain bars in the town

A typical local pub
Jun 2019 • Friends
A pretty average local pub close to Litchfield cathedral. It had a number of locals in on a wet Thursday afternoon.

Dog friendly.

The toasty I had was pretty tasty,

Old fashioned welcoming pub which serves fabulous cheese boards, pork pie, cobs and snacks. Staff are lovely and a bit mad 😊. Large beer garden. Occasional really good entertainment and BBQs. Dog friendly. We use it a lot and love it.
