Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very interesting place. Particularly the way in which the building has been extended over time. The staff whilst offering to help with queries were unable to answer ours. The tearoom is more of a drink and biscuits but fine if that is all that you want. The gardens are well looked after with the medicinal garden being an interesting feature. Behind is the Whitfield Valley Nature reserve with the lake coming close to the carpark.

Found this easily, it is well signed. Large car park as it is next to a nature reserve. The rooms are beautiful. It’s great you can just wander around although the staff are there to question, they were very friendly and knew their stuff. Small cafe with outdoor seating was very nice. Had a nice stroll around the nature reserve lake afterwards.

The house and the displays inside are beautiful. I'm only leaving three stars because of the guide who was an overbearing, prescriptive bore. We were obliged to take his insultingly simple tour (maybe designed for children) when we would have preferred to wander by ourselves. What a shame, it quite ruined our visit. I was glad to escape. Disabled access could have been better signposted from the car park.

Hi Nicola Really sorry to hear that you didnt enjoy your visit. We have had a number of good reviews on the volunteer in questions tours, but i think we need to make sure he knows that he must respect that some visitors prefer to explore by themselves! I agree a larger sign from the carpark would help. Kind regards Chris

An amazing experience. Afternoon tea with family and a guided tour of the museum. Staff very welcoming and excellent food and service. Would definitely recommend visiting this historic family home. We will be making a return visit in the near future.

Unassuming little place but what a gem! Don't be put off by the location it is wonderful inside. So much to look at and good clear information boards. Good for kids too as there is a trail and room with old fashioned games to try. Could spend a couple of hours there. Would recommend if you love history

This place is a gem. It is full of history, quirky and the staff are charming. My son completed the witch trail and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was plenty of information given throughout, lots to see/explore and the house decorated for Halloween was amazing. Thank you so much for a lovely visit during half term.
