It is currently undergoing extensive building modification and extensions and will be closed for at least a year, needed to rate one star to get the app to activate

Disappointed customer
Jul 2018 • Couples
Visit time 16.33 we t to eat inside as too hot for my parents aged 86years and 84 years also the two dogs.
Barmaid not very welcoming even though it was not busy. We noticed no menus on any tables and asked for one at the bar. Her reply was they are on the table we replied no they are not. Her comment to that oh did not know as everyone was eating outside today. Once we had the menu we ordered 3 rump steaks two well done and one medium rare. Plus chicken tikka. The steaks on arrival were all medium rare and none well done. The quality of the steaks rump was also not good very fatty so most was go en to the dogs. I have been here many times before and always pleased with the service and food the last time i was disappointing and thought it a one off but this time I was disappointed for a second time and now may have to find another food venue that dogs can go and where my parents can relax too.

Light Refreshments following a Funeral
Mar 2018 • Friends
After a family funeral a small group of friends and family were entertained to a enjoyable lunch time light buffet. It was well presented fresh and good value for money. The service was was excellent and the staff most professional. We would highly recommend the Broughton Arms.

Flat Pint
May 2017 • Friends
Usually love this pub. Awesome setting, well priced, good beer.

Went on the 5th March for a drink with friends. Pint of Fosters was flat. First time I've ever had a flat pint there to be honest. Was told at the bar "it doesn't look flat". They poured it into another glass and handed it me back.

Tremendous customer service...

P.S the pint was still flat.

Rude and definitely NOT dog friendly
Oct 2016 • Friends
Visited for an important birthday lunch. Four adults with four small dogs and a greyhound. Dogs were well exercised before we visited so were very tired. In the pub we put a blanket on the seat so our four small dogs could sleep. The barman came over and said dogs were not allowed on the seat. We explained we had covered the seat and asked if this was ok - which he said was and then went away.

Then an older man - who we assume was manager/owner came over and told us - very rudely - to get our dogs off the seats. We explained that we had already had permission from the other member of staff but this man said they could not sit on the seats because 'people do eat here you know.'

So quite disgruntled because of his rude tone of voice, complete lack of customer service and frankly arrogant manner we started removing the sleeping dogs off the seat and onto the floor. During the process one of them slipped away.

The first member of staff came to say one of our dogs was 'out of control' in the conservatory. In fact he was sitting and being petted by a very friendly family. This dog is a small lhasapoo with three legs. The idea of him being 'out of control' was frankly laughable.

So at this stage we realised as a group that we felt less than welcome in the pub and decided to spend our money elsewhere. We had been recommended this pub by a Dog App and I would say that the Broughton Arms is just about dog tolerant but definitely NOT dog friendly. We decamped to the Lawton Arms just down the road where they were a lot friendlier, accommodating and the food was delicious. And the birthday was saved.

To make the point - we do not mind having our dogs on the floor but I do take exception to being talked to as if we were dirt on the bottom of someone's shoe - which is what it felt like by both of these members of staff.

Friendly staff, good food and a great view over the canal
Aug 2016 • Couples
A typical pub menu but done well and well priced. Helpful staff and a fabulous view of the canal. So many canal side pubs have closed, it's great to see one thriving.

Wednesday Curry Evening
Jun 2016 • Family
We stopped here whilst doing the Cheshire Ring on a Narrow Boat. It happened to be "Curry Night". The staff were very welcoming and friendly especially given that the restaurant was so busy and we hadn't booked. There was a choice of curry with drink for £6.95. There was a good choice of both curry and drinks including many craft beers. All of the meals arrived complete with Naan Bread and poppadum. The curry was of pub standard but nevertheless very good and very much appreciated after a cold wet day on the canal.
I would definitely recommend a stop here whether travelling by canal or road.
There was also a very good children menu although not required by ourselves.

good food. Excellent location
Jun 2016 • Friends
Easy to find. Lots of free parking. Great location on the side of the canal. Food good with a wide variety of choice.Dine in or out depending on the weather. We chose to eat outside so that we could watch the narrow boats passing by and waving at the occupants. A very mellow, relaxing experience.
