- Viking wandererManchester, United Kingdom84 contributionsGreat day out, but the hill in the forest gave my legs a workout 😅Had a very nice time seeing all the monkeys, big open space with a restaurant and play area before you go into the forest wich was lovely. I would say if you are in a wheelchair or struggle with walking up hills, please be warned that there is one part that is very steep going up and very steep going down. We had a pram, and i got a bit of a workout going up and help on even tighter going down, haha. You can still avoid and go round this hill but does take a good chunk out of the forest, but that would be my only negative really. Many thanks for the lovely feedback. Our forest has it's natural terrain intact so there are hilly bits, this is all transparently shown on the accessibility page of our website. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this! - KJames29Preston, United Kingdom135 contributionsReally well organised monkey experience. Our grandson can’t stop talking about the monkeys. A couple crossed the path right by him and Rangers’s appeared immediately to ensure both safety of monkeys and humans. Very well marshalled and enlightening visit to the monkey woods where swinging in trees, play fighting and grooming each other allows young and older to see how monkeys live and play together without any boundaries other than please keep to the path policy. Feeding time gave an interesting commentary as well as more monkey interaction. Well done Trentham. Kids play area however needs the bark chipping topped up as all ground into mud. Many thanks for the lovely feedback. We will review our bark chipping. We hope to see you again soon! - Lavinia DWorksop, United Kingdom50 contributionsA privilege to walk with natureAbsolutely fabulous to beable to walk in the monkey park. The monkeys were a joy to watch. They have so much space to play, chill, climb. We were able to experience feeding time and our guide was very informative. The animals are so well looked after. Wouldn't have missed this. Loads for the little ones including park and cafe. You can come and go into the monkey park just get your hand stamped. 10/10. A massive well done to all who make this park and experience so wonderful. Many thanks for the lovely feedback. We hope to see you again soon! - DeuceWoooUnited Kingdom1,392 contributionsNash Coach TripI’d seen this place advertised a few years back & so longer to go, then I discovered Nash Coaches who did the day trip. It’s fantastic if you want to get close to the monkeys. The staff appeared to know all of their names too! There’s a decent cafe to get a coffee or whatever, & something to eat. Trentham Gardens is just next door so you can do them both in the same day, although we didn’t.Many thanks for the lovely feedback. - RachelLondon, United Kingdom19 contributionsFree-roaming monkeys up closeThis is a great place to see free-roaming monkeys up close. We really enjoyed our visit but my one minor criticism is that the talks were tailored towards children. Given the number of talks given during the day, I wouldn’t have minded an adult option with far more in-depth insights. Other than that, it was a great afternoon.Hello Rachel, thank you so much for the feedback and we're so glad you enjoyed your visit! - bethanymayLincolnshire, United Kingdom100 contributionsMonkeys worth the money! For the experience you get and how close you are to the monkeys the ticket entry prices are beyond reasonable! The guides are extremely knowledgeable and approachable. We saw a large number of monkeys in the walk forest walk through, they have three feeding times where the monkeys come down for snacks. The talk given is very educational and I learnt a lot about these gorgeous primates. The monkeys are all very well behaved around the members of public and don’t cause any trouble. The whole trip was worth while just to see the babies playing in one of the trees and showing off their hanging abilities. The cafe has a limited range of food and the hot drinks are from a machine. The food and drinks we chose were good quality and tasted good. I would have to say the cafe is nothing special, but a good, average place to eat. The gift shop has great variety and we might have all purchased a toy monkey…Hello, thank you so much for the feedback and we're so glad you enjoyed your visit! - OurVeganFamily15 contributionsA really fun experience! We visited today, 2 adults (1 being a heavily pregnant Mama!) and a two year old. Managed to time it perfectly when we first arrived to see the monkeys have a feed and hear the talk about them in the main grassy area, it was very informative and I was really impressed at just how close we managed to get to the monkeys. It was rather cold and windy/raining intermittently so I was worried we wouldn’t see a great deal of them, but they’re less afraid of bad weather than us humans! Really inexpensive for the experience. And our son loved the park too. We didn’t use the cafe on site, looking at the menu it doesn’t cater a great deal for vegans, however we didn’t ask if there was anything else available so can’t complain. We didn’t stay for long at all, 37 weeks pregnant doesn’t allow much walking unfortunately but we still feel we got our moneys worth by just watching the feed and talk! Would definitely return if we found ourselves nearby again!Thank you so much for the feedback and we're so glad you enjoyed your visit! - Charlotte L35 contributionsExcellent day outThe playground is excellent with plenty to do for children of all ages. The entire establishment is litter free and has helpful staff dotted around who are very friendly and knowledgable. The dining area was clean and the food we had was freshly prepared and very tasty. The feeding talk at 1:15pm (one every hour) was informative and entertaining and my four year old has enjoyed repeating some of the facts she learned about monkeys to anyone who will listen.Thank you so much for the feedback and we're so glad you enjoyed your visit! - Kebba BBirmingham, United Kingdom70 contributionsGreat day outIt was lovely to return to Monkey Forest and this time to bring our 1 year old with us. It was amazing to see the monkeys so close and the surroundings are beautiful in themself even without the monkeys. Really do not understand the negative reviews. A day out is what you make of it and it seems some people really are not making the most of time with their families because Monkey Forest definitely has plenty to offer if you bother to engage. The only thing that could do with being improved is the restaurant. It is very small for the size of the park and has a very small amount of high chairs for a venue aimed at small children. We visited mid-week term time and all the highchairs were already in use)Many thanks for the lovely feedback. We'll continue to develop our restaurant - thank you for feeding back to us your experience of this section also this is very helpful! Visited Trentham Monkey Forest on a warm and windy day in August. Due to COVID restrictions it is necessary to book a specific arrival time slot in advance, which was easy to do on the website. On entry there is an open space with a cafe and some info about Macaque monkeys around the world. You then pass through a secure gate to get into the monkey enclosure, a forest of huge trees. There is a nice wide smooth path which is suitable for prams and wheelchairs - although there are a couple of quite steep hills along the way. The monkeys were in the trees and feeding on the ground, often very close to visitors. At key points around the walk there are staff members who happily tell you about the monkeys, their behaviours and activities. They also ensure the monkeys are not stressed or bothered by visitors. There are apparently about 140 animals living in the forest.
Thoroughly enjoyable day out. Good value for money.

Great idea and experience.
The children loved it, it's something that suits all ages.
Online I think it says maximum time 2 hours so when we arrived I expected to spend approximately that but unfortunately we walked around (easily) in about 40 minutes so unless you take your time you are in and then out.
There are lots of guides around who will answer any questions you have and a cafe on site for refreshments.
The good news is that the prices are reasonable and not expensive at all - we paid £39 for 5 of us that's 3 adults, 2 children.
Something for the family to remember and enjoy.
Wouldn't come again but glad we have paid a visit.

Thank you for your review. At the moment, visitors are spending a little less time with us due to us not being able to run feeding talks or have play areas open. This is reflected in our online discounted ticket prices. We do hope you will visit us again when things are a little more 'normal'. Thank you for your comments.

This was my second visit and it was just as good. Lots of monkeys to see and beautiful woodland to walk around. There was one good staff member who was telling you about the monkeys and giving out information. The walk around isn't too long so we walked around twice.
The one way system and social distancing measures in the gift shop and cafe areas were good and I never felt unsafe in these areas. Lots of hand sanitiser around these areas and the toilets.
Only downside was the crowding happening around the main viewing area. There's no feeding talks here at the moment but, as other reviewers mentioned, people still gathered around there for ages as its the best spot to see the monkeys. It wasn't crowed enough for us to feel too unsafe, but there were a couple of large groups with pushchairs who thought it was okay to block paths forcing you to get close to get past. Would have liked some of the staff to maybe move people on or ask people not to block paths for long periods of time.

Thank you for your review. we're happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us and felt safe during your visit.
We're sorry to hear about certain groups hanging around certain areas making it feel crowded. We do ask all visitors to read our new guidelines and hope they respect and follow these rules to keep themselves and others safe. Luckily as Monkey Forest is such a large outdoor space there is plenty of room to avoid the crowds and safely social distance.
We hope to see you again soon.

We booked online to visit the monkey Forrest whilst staying at the nearby Premier Inn. The staff were super friendly and the keepers were very knowledgeable. We saw many monkeys up close and it was great to see them walking alongside us. There are lots of information points around the forrest. There are covid-19 measures in place, so lots of hand sanitisation points and reminders to keep socially distanced. Masks were expected to be worn in all indoor areas.
We are a family of 4 with two children aged 3 and 4 who had a great time. We spent an hour and a half looking around the forrest. There is a playground which unfortunately due to covid-19 was closed to the public. The gift shop was reasonably priced and had lots of stock from cuddly toys to mugs. There is also a cafe with an indoor and outdoor seating area.
All in all it was a great day out and I would thoroughly recommend. A reasonably priced attraction with a lot to see and do.

Price wise if you booked on line you saved 10% so just over £35 for a family of 4 so very reasonable
my children aged 4 and 5 loved watching the monkeys walk about the park . The staff dotted around answered any questions we had and the feeding time was really interesting a lovely few hours out we went around twice slowly so we’re there for a large chunk of the day
Only thing letting it down was the restaurant very poor choice and extreamly expensive it was just not worth it .avalable and so I would really recommend a picnic and as you can be stamped to re enter the same day you could always return to the car and eat there if rainy .
All in all we will be back but next time with a picnic

So we came and visited with my husband and two children and his father who lives this way. We come from Poole, Dorset (4hours away) and grandad had promised the children a trip to see the monkeys. It was our fault for booking abit late so we could only secure a 2.30pm booking, but figured that it still gave us 2.5 hours as I'd checked the times online and it stated 5.00pm. However after doing the spooky trail , we found that we were being ushered out by the staff while we was walking through the enclosure. At one point we was being asked to hurry up ( easier said than done with a 2 year old ) Id also like to add that the members of staff telling us that we needed to hurry up were not adhering to the 2 metre social distance guidelines. We was abit confused as to why we were being told to hurry up when it was only 3.50pm ? We went straight to the toilets to clean our hands and the toilets were very dirty at this time - this could of been just due to the fact that it was near the end of day perhaps?
Once out of the enclosure we was informed that the park closed at 4.00pm as its winter opening hours ? Would be perhaps nice to update this on the website for when people are booking at home or for those that aren't regulars .
The bit that I was probably most upset about was that we rushed over to the shop as Grandad wanted to treat the boys to a monkey toy/Teddy to take home. While I was searching for my mask in my pocket outside the front door of the shop, a member of staff locked the door and clearly had looked at me while doing so.
So after paying £30 something pounds for a rushed hour walk around the enclosure, I then had to comfort a very distraught 2 year old who didn't get his own monkey to take home.
I would however say that what we did see of the monkeys enclosure and the encounters with them was lovely! It just ruined what could of been a special memory with Grandad whom we dont get to see that often, because of incorrect information on the website and a couple of rude members of staff.

Thank you for leaving a review. Our opening times are stated on the website and our leaflet. During October Half Term the park closes at 4pm, with last entry at 3pm. This is clearly shown on our opening time page and across all our promotional activities. We're sorry for the confusion here.
This year, due to restrictions and to help us safely monitor numbers we have asked that all visitors stay no longer than 2 hours. This is shown on our visitor guidelines that all visitors must read ahead of their trip. 2.30pm is the last slot of the day at this time of year and we believe that 1.5 hours is more than enough time, especially this year when we haven't been able to run feeding talks or open parks as normal, which does reduce the visit time slightly. We are a half-day attraction and on a normal visit we find visitors do stay around 2 hours.
We're sorry to hear that the shop was closed when you tried to visit. As with all areas of the forest, this too closes at 4pm October half term. We do always stay open until the last customer has left the shop.
Again, please accept our apologies, we're really sorry to hear you were disappointed with your visit. We really hope you will visit us again in the future.

Excellent trip. Has to be taken as it is. A forest with monkeys in their own habitat and own will. It’s not a zoo. Just one type of monkey but old and young including babies on show. We saw monkeys in each part of our trip and all the staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Only minor gripes are cafe is overpriced (alas like most) and the gift shop took ages to get into (of course due to silly social distancing rules at mo so not entirely there fault)
Only type in UK so would thoroughly recommend .

Price is very cheap really I expected it to be more, but after visiting I see why.
Price is about £9 for an adult, but it’s not really a place where you would spend all day, hour and a half possibly two hours at most.
The monkey forest route isn’t very long and the lower part of the route had no monkeys as they were mostly all on the upper level (which is fair enough but naturally means you finish the walk faster than expected)
Saw around 20 - 30 monkeys all the same type (only one type, about 140 a member of staff told me) a little baby monkey was really good to see and they just roam around relatively free, cross in front of you on the path etc my little lad loved it.
Didn’t have any food other than drinks and an ice cream so cannot comment on the cafe, but didn’t see many people eating most had picnics.
Shop is quite small but a lot in there and again quite cheap.
Staff on the monkey route were really friendly, knowledgeable which was great. But the staff in the shop, entrance kiosk all I’ll say is, have no customer service skills whatsoever not even a smile.
Influx of mosquitoes when we visited, asked a member of staff about them and they said they’ve come this year never had them before, so if you go be mindful of that.
I doubt I would return to be honest, monkeys are great but I would sooner go to a zoo / safari, more to see and guess what they have monkeys also.

Thank you for your review. Monkey Forest is a half-day attraction so most people spend about 2 hours with us. The monkeys are free to roam the 60-acre woodland but tend to stay close to the feeding areas.
We're sorry about your experience in the shop and we will pass this onto management as we always strive for excellent customer service.

Lots of monkeys to see in their own habitat. Knowledgeable staff in the forest, giving useful info and facts. Great for kids. Restaurant and shop a bit pricey, and toilets had no hot water for handwashing, which was the only not that let down the trip.

Absolutely amazing place, highly recommend a visit. Upon arrival we showed our e ticket to the member of staff on the gate, picked up our prepaid pen and small guide book/map. There is a small shop which is reasonable priced as is the cafe which provide tasty sandwich due to it being a warm day there were plenty of places to sit down. If you purchase a monkey soft toy you will be told to bputvit away upon entering as the monkey will nick it!!. It's a lovely walk mainly on the flat but there are a couple of steep areas. There are several guides who will answer any questions you may have and many photo opportunities to be had. Saw the monkeys munching away on apple's and pears and there currently are two baby monkeys who are 5 and 2 weeks old, extremely cute. Great to see the monkeys interacting with one another whether it be okay fighting or arguing over who's going to hold the baby. The staff will tell you to hold back should a monkey cross the path in front of you as they don't want people getting too close. The monkeys look well looked after, little do they realise how lucky they are to live free of cages and bars. There are information board to read inside the forest and outside. If you are unsure about visiting- don't,go and support the monkeys you will not regret it

Can you get to Monkey forest by walking through Trentham Gardens?
So if we park at Trentham can we walk to monkey forest and back through Trentham again to get back to the car or do you have to drive to the forest?
Thank you

Are there benches around the walk to stop and rest whilst watching the monkeys?
Written 23 May 2019
There are a few benches placed strategically but not that many.
If by the sound of it you have trouble walking maybe you could contact the park to see if they have a wheelchair you could use
