Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was my first visit since 2016, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
The first race has to be on Question of Sport, “what happened next!”
Anyway, apart from all the excitement, the course, and layout of the facilities
remain excellent.
The staff were all courteous, and although the day lacked spectators, the atmosphere was still warm and friendly.
Can’t wait to return again!

Booked into the Silks Restaurant. For £65 each we got the table for the day and 3 course meal. The food was very nice but the best bit was the table service - even including the Tote lady taking your bets and paying you your winnings witjout leaving your seat. Great day. Great value.

Attended to celebrate a friends birthday and enjoyed a day in the Bistro hospitality.
The staff and the meal were excellent and the balcony overlooking the finish was almost in touching distance of the horses!
A fantastic little course that delivers on all fronts at a fraction of the cost of some similar sized southern courses.

Visited here for many years and loved the experience of eating in the On course restaurant. However in October this year the experience was very much less than special with an abysmal menu and totally tasteless food. The price however stayed the same so worst value I have had for many years.

Truly awful hospitality in Silks Restaurant. Kids as waiters who obviously hadn’t been trained, whilst restaurant manageress wasn’t prepared to roll up her sleeves. Supposed to be met with a complimentary drink (nope had to ask for it) - supposed to close the meal with coffee and mints (nope - had to ask for it, and no mints). Soup tipped on our table by waiter. Charged for drinks we didn’t have. Regularly pestered to buy more hugely overpriced drinks. Took away drinks that weren’t finished with. Fellow guests were splattered by beer after one of the waiters dropped a bottle of beer on the floor. Carvery was nice. Desserts were ok. Doorman was the friendliest person there. Appreciate good staff are hard to come by, but this was truly awful. This really is a case of “back to the drawing board”. Oh, and we were sat on each other’s laps (not COVID friendly) (not really surprising as ARC are only interested in making profits. )
What should have been a lovely evening of horse racing was ruined by complete incompetence both by waiters and manageress. Avoid Silks Restaurant like the plague or prepare to be very disappointed at £97 per head. 😞

We didn’t receive our tickets in time so had trouble getting in as admissions staff were not very helpful.
Our booth was set out nicely and our tote was a very pleasant gentleman who couldn’t do any more for us. That was the only positive of the day.
The drinks were very expensive and the food was of very poor quality, I’ve had better frozen meals which is not really acceptable with tickets costing almost £60 per head. I won’t be returning.

This racecourse does not cater for the disabled in any shape or form be it parking or getting around the site, eating in the restaurant is not possible as all the restaurants are on the second floor of each section without lifts or ramps.
The disabled are entitled to everything that an able bodied person is or as the Equality Act 2010 will state is the case, but not here !.
I took the matter up with the management ( Megan Shutt ) and got a sarcastic reply and no follow up.
I took the matter further by contacting Mr David Thorpe ( Chairman ) of ARC the racecourse governing body and again NOTHING.
AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOUR DISABLED !

We came here for Boxing Day. We visit every year and pay to go in the marquee £70 per person. Was very disappointed this year as the marquee had changed location and you had to go outside to watch the racing normally they open the side of the marquee so you can watch the horses come up to the winning post. Very disappointed at the bar had ran out of glasses, spirits. Food wasn’t as tasty as last year either. Won’t be going next year. Wasn’t worth £140 per couple!!!!

We came here for the Durham national there was 24+ of us in a private hospitality room for a 3 course lunch with drinks.
Great arrival everything ready and very attentive staff.
Tote lady to take our bets and offer advice! Lovely...
We had a great day , the food wasn’t the best I feel it lacked substance and flair and could have been better presented and was a bit to ‘canteen’ although the colcannon on the main course was good.
All in all great day but disappointing food.

Can we bring along our dog 🐕to the race meetings ??
I would like to know if it is possible to wager at this track, minimum bet 400 quid, and make a living for the last 25 years. This might seem a strange request, but a friend of mine assures me that he has done it.........

How do I get to sedgefield using public transport .
Megan S
County Durham, UK
Hi Robert,
Our local train stations are Darlington & Durham, both a 20 minute drive to the racecourse.
You can get the service bus in to Sedgefield Village and walk down to the racecourse which will take approx. ten minutes.
Thanks
