About
Iken Canoe is based on the stunning upper reaches of the Alde estuary between Snape and Aldeburgh, close to the Suffolk coast. We hire out Canadian canoes, 4-6 person Katakanus, sit-on-top kayaks, stand up paddleboards (SUPs), plus Cornish Shrimper sailing boat charter, for people to explore this wonderful estuary and see wildlife such as seals basking on the mud. Hire can be from 1 hour for a SUP, or 2 hours or more on a canoe or kayak. Suitable for couples, groups or families.

Very friendly owners , great communication, felt safe and well informed on the day. Got a to see a seal, lots of Egrets and canoeing to Snape Malting a bonus!

Brilliant fun paddling with Iken Canoes. 4 teens and parents messing around on the river. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. All the equipment was in great condition. A great family expedition !! Thank you.

Fabulous experience. What a shame Nature England cant get their act together to allow the expansion of more people to enjoy such a quality day out. I do hope they see this review as I can't think of any reason to drag their feet.
We thought that Dom and Kate were utterly professional and we cant speak highly enough of their attention to safety and instructions. It was a lovely trip to Snape. Great for a family, couple or solo and time for a cuppa at the other end.
Brilliant all round.

Lovely couple who were very welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately, I did not have the confidence to canoe (I’ve got a rubbish balance), however they let my daughter and husband paddle around the water which they enjoyed.
The area is beautiful and we were given instructions to be aware of the wildlife and to keep the noise to a minimum and you could tell they cared for the area in which they are running their business.
Thank you for taking the time to look after us, even though I didn’t make it out today l, I would not hesitate to recommend to others looking to spend some time out on the water with friendly staff and a beautiful backdrop.

Extremely friendly and knowledgeable owners. Limited number of Canadian canoes available currently so 2 of us padded up towards Snape where we swapped with the other 2 family members who paddled back to Iken. Easy footpath along the river for those not paddling. Excellent equipment, thorough safety briefing and information on the environment and local wildlife. An excellent experience all round. Thank you!

The perfect way to spend a couple of hours on the water.
The owners were friendly and very knowledgeable and although we were complete novices, we felt totally safe and at ease after being shown how to canoe / where to go / what to do etc.
The experience was fun and something we will definitely do again.
Highly recommend.

We visit Snape frequently and pass the canoe shack on the path between Snape & Iken, we thought why not give it a go. I am glad we did! First of all the welcome we received made us relax, there was a no pressure just reassuring safety breaches with an overwhelming theme of, enjoy the river, take your time we are here if you need us. The river was great, the wildlife was abundant and the stars of the show, the seals came to say hello. Seeing the banks from a different perspective and the stillness was just what we needed to relax into the weekend. When the tide went out and we got stuck on the bank, it was no big deal and where in ordinary circumstances I would be calling for international rescue 🤣 being in the present and letting nature take its course was just what was needed. We got back a little late due to that, again the calmness of the team put us at ease. They had checked from us from afar and knew we had an unscheduled stop whilst waiting for the tide to turn. To say we enjoyed it was an understatement, pure joy! What will we do different next time? Perhaps carry a flask of tea! Thank you!!!

Really good fun, well organised, safe and suitable for all abilities. The canoes are flat bottomed so very stable and really easy to manoeuvre / paddle.
A great way to spend a couple of hours. We saw loads of birds, dragonflies and even a seal. Although I would say this is a very safe activity, the staff are very clear and thorough in safety briefings and take time to explain everything.
Cleanliness is also first class.
Definitely worth doing but advisable to book in advance
