Built in 1819, this Grade 1 listed playhouse is the only surviving example of a Regency theatre in the UK. It is the only theatre open to the public in the National Trust's portfolio of properties. Fully restored to it's Georgian splendour, the intimate auditorium and exquisite decorative scheme will provide visitors with an unforgettable and unique theatrical experience. The Theatre presents a vibrant, year-round programme of drama, music, dance and stand up comedy. We also offer regular tours of the building, contact our Box Office to book a space on one of our tours.

Miles Jupp was the star attraction - we loved the show. But, it was the care shown for my disabled wife that really impressed. From booking, to the quality of seats, the price charged, the attentive staff (who personally walked us to the seats and made a point of highlighting were the toilets were - my wife will kill me... This is quite a small theatre you are really close to the stage so you can see it all and hear well too. Boxes are very small with quaint folding seats at the back, knee room is limited and people with limited mobility maybe a little restricted. It can get very busy at the bar and service can be very... Great little theatre - always a treat and because it's small, everyone feels included and not just a number!

Was lucky enough to appear on stage with a local am dram group. It's a wonderful place, small but perfectly formed. Well worth a visit.

I have visited many times as I love the historic feel of the place, it is a traditional theatre one can almost feel the ghosts of artists past. Parking can be problematic and some seats in the gallery do require peering around thin posts but the atmosphere is intimate, and the audience involved. The pantomime this year is exceptional the... This is probably the oldest working Georgian theatre in Britain and a must for any visitor to the town. Beautifully restored and a tremendous asset. with a wide variety of plays and shows and where I've visited regularly from its opening day some sixty years back.

When I lived in Bury St Edmunds in the 1950's/1960's I was fortunate enough to be a member of the local amateur dramatic society when it was discovered that a building used by Greene King as a store was in fact probably one of the best surviving theatres of its kind. After restoration I was present backstage at the first... More

Good Pantomime, but view from Gallery seats leaves a lot to be desired. Restricted view was warned, but no idea how restricted.
