Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was a school trip to the Mutiny of Colour Exhibition. The students said it was really good. Dan showed us round and told us about the artists. We also got to see the Red Barn Murders Exhibit which fascinated everyone. It was exciting to see Banksy's art for real. One student linked the colourful butterfly art best. They loved trapping their teacher in a cage. We would recommend a visit to everyone but be warned some pictures had swearing. We want to go back for the Horrible Histories Tour in the future.

Brilliant exhibition (The Urban Frame: Mutiny in Colour) well worth the £7 entrance fee (lots more to see as well - see lengthy response to a previous review for details!)

Really lovely friendly place, staff knowledgeable and chatty.

Highly recommend.

Visited today with my 13 year old daughter, my husband, brother in law and two friends to see the Mutiny in Colour exhibition. Everyone in our group enjoyed it, despite our range of ages!

Love some of these artists and really interesting to see their work up close. Dan Clarke, who is the Heritage Officer at the museum was really informative when my husband asked about the signed prints that were for sale. Really friendly and chatty. We’ve visited a couple of exhibitions here previously and would encourage people to check and see if there are any upcoming events that may be of interest to them. This place needs support and funding Love this place as it really is great.

Friendly and helpful staff - lovely building in central town location, despite age of building even has lifts to upper floors which is brilliant!

Great permanent exhibits on medieval artefacts, crime and punishment and Horology. And a brilliant exhibition on Film costume.

Charming shop with reasonably priced items and only £7 to get in to see all those exhibitions!

We visited the day before the Lego exhibition was due to open, so the museum was pretty chaotic but we struggled to find anything incredibly interesting either in the exhibits or the building itself.

How disappointing you didn't like the exhibits of our beautiful museum, nor the building itself. We can assume that you paid a reduced rate which we always give when some of our galleries are closed . As other reviews state, when we're fully open (sadly builds take weeks which is unavoidable) we're packed full of hundreds of artefacts. You may have missed the 19th Century book bound in human skin, the scalp of the Red Barn Murderer, the 17the Century witchcraft collection of mummified cats/bottles/wands/poppet/et al, the Suffolk Regiment collection of amazing social history pieces including artefacts that inadvertently saved lives in the trenches, the medieval collection that includes a lock of hair from Mary Tudor, 900 year old weapons, Abbey finds, a gold and rare Aestal, sacrificial wolf skulls, pilgrim souvenirs from across the globe, original and beautiful Abbey stained glass. A 12th Century fronted building with Romanesque arches stretching overhead from around 1130, gothic arches from c1180, Tudor arches that are 500 years old. With panels that have been on the walls for a few years interpreting the incredible 900-year history of the building itself. Come back when all 8 galleries are open and maybe you'll find at least one thing to interest you, most people take 1.5 - 2 hours enjoying the endless stories. But not everyone reads labels or panels. Thank you

A fascinating time bubble. The building itself goes back to Norman times and the exhibits cover other centuries. The clocks and watches were our favourite but there is material for those interested in the more gruesome aspects of Breitish history.

Really enjoyed looking round here, particularly the street art exhibition, which included a good number of works by Banksy. Permanent collection on the tiop floor is also worth a look. Not expensive to visit and they have a delightful giftshop. Right in the city centre.

Very old building in the market square which was holding an exhibition. Staff on entry were very helpful, as it is an old building some uneven floors and stairs - just in case disabled or people unsteady on their feet visit
Interesting exhibits as well as the main exhibition
