We got to experience a full day tour on Saturday. It’s amazing to see how the majority of one small town is completely governed by the horses that live there and really refreshing outside the normal hustle and bustle of daily life!
10 days before the tour we received the itinerary which was really detailed and very helpful as it recommended booking a table for lunch at the restaurant situated within the grounds of the NHRM.

We were met by our guide Larry who was not only so knowledgeable but a great character who had lots of stories to share with us throughout the tour.
Every aspect of the tour was really enjoyable- from the trip to the gallops through to the tour of the trainers yard (which, as Larry pointed out had no fancy show just for us it showed the hard-work and dedication that goes into looking after the horses.) The National Stud was very relaxed at this time of year but it was great to see how the breeding operation works for racehorses and perhaps to have met some of the potential stars of the future . The final element was the trip to the National Horse Racing Museum- this was done at your own pace but very informative and lots of different elements related to horse racing to look at.

Would really really recommend this tour and huge thanks to Larry for adding so much inside knowledge into the day!

Nigel was a very knowledgeable and informative guide. Though these are unusual times, the tour was well done, we felt safe. Nigel was an excellent guide and both amusing and considerate. We went on what was possibly the hottest day of the year and when the tours had just re-started following the pandemic so everyone was a little more wary than normal. Nigel was very thorough, soon made us feel safe and confident. There were not as many horses as would be there normally but we saw stallions, mares and foals and mares in-foal. It was a much larger organisation than we thought with many acres of land (sorry Nigel, forgot exactly how many acres though you told us many times). Would definitely recommend both for horse lovers and those with little or no experience of the Nobel animal.

So pleased you enjoyed your tour and we hope you will visit us again.

I took my 2 daughters on the half day tour of Newmarket and we all had an excellent time. Newmarket is truly unique and Larry, our guide, is a font of wisdom about the town and its history and seems to know everyone there.

As Larry pointed out, there is nowhere in the world like Newmarket, a town that revolves entirely around horse breeding and racing. Seeing horses train on Warren Hill at 8am, on the Gallops at 8.30, in the yard at 10am and then at the National Stud at 11am will teach you everything you know about this industry in a few hours. The horses are magnificent and the people are incredibly welcoming.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in horses, racing or just an insight into a fascinating and beautiful part of the UK.

So lovely to hear that you enjoyed your tour with us so much. We do feel spoilt at times living in Newmarket. I will be certain to pass your comments onto Larry who is such an ambassador for our town. We hope to see you back in Newmarket again at some stage.

We visited the national stud with discover newmarket organisation. It was very disappointing. For 15 pounds you just have the right to sit into an old bus, an stay behind the foot of the guide, like on the leash.
You can not touch horses, there are no many information provided during the visit. I am still wondering if the woman was happy to discuss with us and if she really wanted we enjoy the tour.
Be ready to see some grass, some fences, some sculptures, some horse cemeteries and just be able to touch a shetland (a small pony) ... Very good experience .... They mentioned 90 minutes but if you remove the toilets pause, you will be closer than 70 minutes !

We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your tour of the National Stud with us. We are also sorry that you didn't appreciate that it would not be possible to touch the Stallions. It would appear that you were expecting a very different type of tour than the one we deliver and it is most unfortunate if you felt you were mislead.

Went on the Frankel tour. The booking process was very easy and the information pre-tour was excellent. Our tour in late 2022 was temporarily delayed by a month due to extreme heat and the options for either accepting the new date or alternative arrangements were excellent and very easy.

The tour includes a visit to the National Horse Racing Museum. I had visited here before but took advantage of another informative trip, with a temporary visit and a look round the wonderful bookshop.

Onto the main bit of the tour......Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud. The minibus picked us up from the NHRM and the driver, I think he was called Larry, was excellent and informative. We had a quick stop at the top of Moulton Road to look over the gallops and had some sights pointed out, more of which was included on the drive to Banstead Manor.

On arrival at the stud, we received a very warm welcome from Juddmonte staff. They explained the basic layout of the stud, a few ground rules - photography was allowed but no videos and we were off on the short walk to the stallion block.

The tour states that you are guaranteed to see Frankel, but not the other Juddmonte stallions, but they will be on show if their schedule allows. We were very very lucky and saw Bated Breath, Expert Eye, Kingman, Oasis Dream and Frankel. This really was a dream come true and to see such wonderful racehorses in their new stud life was a pinch me moment.

The staff were very friendly and informative. Providing background info on all 5 stallions, answering questions and just very relaxed and friendly. Each stallion was paraded, posed from different angles and although it went very quickly, when I checked my photos later, each stallion was on show for around 10 minutes!!

All too soon, we were on the minibus back to the NHRM, via a tour of the covering shed and also receiving a wonderful goody bag from Juddmonte. Our driver also provided lots of local info on the drive back.

They do ask that if you have done the Frankel tour before to only do it once and I totally agree. With limited spaces each year, as many people as possible should be able to see this horse of a lifetime.

This was my first tour with Discover Newmarket and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again based on the overall experience. Thank you.

This is a very special tour indeed and thank you for acknowledging that we try and deter people from booking onto this tour again, simply so that more visitors can enjoy this memorable experience. With over 15 different guided tours and experiences in our programme, we very much hope you will book a different tour with us. Hope to see you again soon!

The Ultimate Newmarket Experience Tour was amazing. Better than expected and great value for money. Char was a brilliant and very knowledgeable guide and it was a joy to be able to take our time at each location and not be be rushed around like you often can be on such tours. It gave us a taste of everything - seeing the racehorses on the gallops, a tour of a trainer’s yard, the National Stud, ex racehorse retraining etc. It was great there was also a racehorse simulator which gave you a real idea of what it actually feels like to be riding a racehorse in a race. An ex jockey was on hand to explain what to do and how to “ride” the horse. We really enjoyed the day and didn’t want it to come to an end. Also I have to say how efficient and pleasant Emma has been to deal with when purchasing and booking this Experience.

We went on the Champagne Tea and Tour of The Jockey Club Rooms on 4th Sep 2022 and it was excellent. Tour lasted about 90 minutes and our guide, Malcolm Roper, was very informative and pleasant. The tea was very good and the only negative aspect of the visit was the large size of the group. This meant that at times it was slightly difficult to hear everything the guide was saying and to view the paintings and other objects. However, overall the tour was very enjoyable and highly recommended.

Many thanks for your comments and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your tour. The Jockey Club Rooms is indeed a very special place to visit and take tea. I have noted your comments about the numbers and will look to address this for next year.

We had booked as a 70th Birthday for my uncle and Godfather. Our tour guide was Nigel who could not have been more welcoming and knowledgeable. The weather was a little foggy on Warren Hill but it was so atmospheric to hear and see the horses galloping out of the mist - very special memories.
We loved walking around a working yard and found the tour of the National stud to be really informative.
I would thoroughly recommend this trip, from booking to the tour it was a really excellent experience.

Half-day tour on Monday 28th September.

Before meeting at the National Stud we went to the Warren-Hill gallops early to see the mighty Enable go out for her morning exercise. A treat in itself to see such a superstar before she attempted to win her 3rd Prix de l’ arc de Triomphe later that week.

Luckily for us, my wife and I had Larry the tour guide to ourselves. He is a lovely man, easy to chat with and super knowledgable about horse racing and Newmarket. Starting at the Warren Hill gallops we got to go onto the heath, something you cannot do as a public spectator whilst the horses are training. Excellent for photography as you can get to 25 meters from the horses galloping past.

From there we continued with a drive past the famous training yards and studs before visiting the yard of Phil McEntee. A lovely friendly yard with goats and chickens where the horses get to run around a large paddock.

A stop for coffee and cakes at the Heath Court hotel and then on to the Limekilns gallops. Final stop at the National Stud to see the new Frankel and Dubawi foals and the stallions Advertise and Rajasinghe.

A fantastic tour. COVID safe with track and trace, facemasks worn inside the tour bus and lots of hand sanitiser every time we boarded!

We will certainly be trying the other Discover Newmarket tours.

Whilst seeing/meeting Frankel and the other beautiful stallions at Banstead Manor Stud Farm was an enjoyable finale to the tour, I very much enjoyed all aspects of the day. I am not that knowledgeable about horse racing but as an enthusiastic sports fan, the Frankel story was something that intrigued me to the point of wanting to meet/see him. From the moment I booked the tour some months ago the communication and organisation from Newmarket Tours was excellent. The day, which included visits to the racecourse, the Warren Hill gallops, a signigicant training yard and Frankel's stud farm was just fabulous, hosted by the humourous and knowledgeable Larry, accompanied by the friendly Lady Jane, who obviously provided a real personal connection to the Frankel story. All the various staff we met throughout the day willingly gave up their time to talk to us and gave us a unique insight into thoroughbred horse racing. Just brilliant!
