Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We did the Pubs and Inns walk, led by David. We have done previous tours including both the more general one and more specific ones. It was interesting to hear about the development of brewing, gin making, pubs and so forth, including why there used to be so many and why they went so fast... will leave that for you to discover on the walk. The guide also had a range of old photos of various pubs that no longer exist. It was interesting to find so may symbols of old pubs we had walked past many times but never noticed

"Made in Guildford", 11 June 2024. Fabulous gentle walk. I'm amazed at how much heavy industry was in the town centre less than 200 years ago: an iron foundry, power station, vehicle manufacturing, a brewery, furniture-making, etc, and how the River Wey played a vital part in transporting materials in and out. Our knowledgeable guide was full of interesting facts. I've lived in Guildford over 50 years, and much of this fascinating talk was news to me! Go on any of the free walks run by Guildford Town Centre Guides and you will not be disappointed.

We did the Guildford Story walk with Mark on Saturday July 13th. It was a good group of about 10 and Mark was a pleasure to be with. He is affable and knowledgeable and although we visit Guildford regularly we learned a lot about the town and some of the notable people who are part of Guildford’s history. Our tour was about 1.5 hours, but it would be no problem to leave the group earlier if necessary. We will do other walks in Guildford when we can.

We did the Medieval tour, led by Susan. Very interesting and Susan was very passionate and knowledgeable. We have booked to do further tours. I would highly recommended.
It was a very hot day and Susan kept us in the shade where possible.
We also had a buggy with us and all of the tour was easily accessible.

We wanted to chime in on how wonderful our History of Guildford tour was with our superb guide, Howard. He was knowledgeable on Guildford and the surrounding region and gave interesting facts on this lovely town. The details that connect Guildford to the rest of England are so fascinating! We especially appreciated how he engaged our teenager and 11 year old, addressing them by name and asking them fun questions. This is a tour you should do, whether you are visiting from overseas like our family or are a local wanting to know more of this charming town, take the tour! You won’t be disappointed!

Walked two informative and interesting tours; Pubs and Inns with Paul and Medieval Guildford with Susan. Both hosts were engaging and Susan was a great story teller and had us enraptured with her history knowledge! The tours are the right length and well paced. Would definitely recommend to both visitors and locals. I plan to book more!

Wonderful Lewis Carroll tour of Guildford, stopping at multiple locations to discuss his life, works and impact on the city and world. Very informative with interesting trivia, visual guides and an in-depth look into his life and motivations. Guide was very engaging and a true expert in the subject. Thoroughly recommend.

Learned about the history of Guildford and royalty in particular. Steve and Howard informed the group of the important history points down the years since the town was founded and linked it to the National and Royal happenings. Although living nearby for over 40 years we hadn't realised how much we did not know. The talk was very well paced and clear, supported with illustrations pictorially and verbally and of course, the actual landmarks. There is a nominal charge, which is very well worthwhile. Having enjoyed this walk, we will return and savour more of these excellent talks. Thoroughly recommended.

GUILDFORD TOWN WALKS are Guildford's best kept secret! The past comes alive in the voices of the guides as they colour in the living history book that is the town. And the town abounds in history just waiting to be discovered. The character of the guides add to the interest and their eagerness and enthusiasm is infectious, I have now finished all the walks on offer and enjoyed every one. Alice in Wonderland and the Lewis Carroll connection will thoroughly delight all Alice fans. The Alan Turing walk is a must for all history/computer buffs. History crawls out of the woodwork and from every stone and street. This is an interesting and informative walk to become acquainted and intimate with the town even if you are a local.

Their encouragement and inspiration has led me to my joining the History Course that the Museum runs. Now the secret is out! If you have feet and an open mind then take to the streets and the Guildford Tour Guides will begin their time travel....follow in their footsteps. Don't let history be a strange!

We were pleased to be able to go on a town walk with a very knowledgeable local. The walk covered the CBD with stops at the Tunsgate, Alan Turings House, the castle, Alice through the Looking Glass statue, local churches and guild hall to name some of the stops. Guildford can be a bit hilly but our guide walked at strolling space and stopped frequently. Really appreciated being able to visit the guildhall.
