I attend the monthly burlesque shows which are always a brilliant night out, I often pop in for a couple of drinks at the start of a evening / dinner in town and I’m always served by brilliant staff and the bar has a lovely atmosphere. There is two levels so ideal for a private party upstairs. Decor is great and you do feel like you have traveled back in time.

It’s a proper gem of a bar, right in the city centre. Well worth a visit! X

Thanks for your lovely review Sarah, very kind and very helpful indeed. You'll be pleased to know the burlesque nights will be starting up again from July 2021 so we shall look forward to welcoming you back again then, if not sooner! Mitch 🥃

My husband and I visited here 11th June 21 at about 6:30pm. It was very quiet (I think only 1 other table occupied) and there was no atmosphere!! We ordered what seemed like a good offer on cocktails (2 for £8) but they just tasted like apple juice, no hint of alcohol whatsoever (very disappointed). Overall not a good experience.

Great music - for all of 10 mins. Arranged to meet friends (Another couple) to listen to the music. My husband and I arrived just before 7. Ordered drinks - lots of space. Nobody at the bar and certainly not crowded. Everyone seated. 10 mins later our friends at the door arrived and we’re refused entry as “full”. The barman told me capacity of 50. I understand fire restrictions need to be followed but never come across a situation like that in a bar in Newcastle with such low capacity . Not being able to meet any one else in there as risk they won’t get in. This is not clear at all on the website. I won’t return again. Shame as the band sounded great. But just not practical for meeting others as you all need to arrive together or risk the same situation.. Ended up leaving our paid for drinks as felt bad for our friends stuck at the door. They should probably operate a reservation service if need to be so strict.

We booked Prohibition for a private birthday party upstairs and honestly could not recommend enough. From start to finish everyone was so helpful and accommodating. The venue itself is just absolutely beautiful, the space was perfect in every way. Communication from Doug in the run up to the event was spot on. Value for money was incredible. The staff are honestly an absolute credit to this place, especially Alex & Daniel who were on the bar for us upstairs - absolutely lush people and so kind & helpful. Thank you so much ❤️

I have been to this venue many times just for a drink or to see the great love music and entertainment and am never disappointed.

I also have friends that have booked the upstairs for a party and it's been equally fabulous. The staff and facilities are great.

Whilst I love coming here with family and friends I feel equally welcome (and very safe) going alone which is a rarity for a woman these days.

Definitely recommend

The best thing about this lovely venue is that no matter when you go the atmosphere is so relaxed. It's a personal service here, Mitch and the staff are so friendly and professional and go out of their way to please. We love the dog friendly Sundays or just popping in for a drink. It's a little haven in a lovely part of Newcastle. Love the place

Thank you for your lovely review! We love hearing how much people enjoy their visit here but it's especially lovely to know that our guests feel relaxed and welcomed when they're in our company. That's what Prohibition is all about, I always hoped it would be a safe, warm and laid back joint for everyone. So I'm glad we are! And yes, dogs are always welcome too! 🐾 Hope to see you again very soon ~ Mitch

Good Friday, called in early doors. Oh my word the staff and owner are awsome. Made my other half a bespoke drink and my good god, he loved it.
A gem of an establishment on the toon! We visit when we are here.

An amazing high end bar and venue with a very friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly too and the monthly hound clubs are well worth a visit. Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff and the entertainment is excellent. Drinks are reasonable priced, the facilities are second to none and it's in an excellent location. Well worth a visit.

We hired the upstairs room for a private party and had a brilliant time.
It's a fantastic room, with private toilets for your party, a well-stocked and excellently staffed bar in the room, and the team couldn't do enough to help with access on both the day of, and the day after a party.

It was fantastic experience, we had a themed party but you could just as easily use the room for standard hire. Can't recommend it enough

I booked this place for my guests to go for a glass of mulled wine before going on to our wedding breakfast. I paid in advance and had invitations printed yet when we arrived on our WEDDING DAY, the doors were locked. I waited with 70 guests outside but the owner had 'gone shopping'. I was refunded the money for the mulled wine but not the price of the printing or the humiliation of standing outside in December in my wedding dress!!! DO NOT book a private party at this place!

Having just been informed (December 2017) that somebody has made a Trip Advisor page for my business and that there are reviews on it I have now officially acquired the page (as it is my business) and I'm only now replying to all the reviews customers have left for me. I have been open just over two years and in all of that time, this event (shortly after my first year in business) has been the only time I've ever let a customer down. But what a time to let someone down. It was entirely my fault and I am extremely disappointed in myself for letting such a lovely couple down. Allow me to explain what happened in my own words and in more detail to ensure the full picture can be seen. The couple were getting married at the Old Town Hall (on one side of my venue) and then having their reception at St Mary's Heritage Centre (on the other side) but there was to be an hour or so gap in between the two venues due to timings and so the couple approached me to see if I would be able to house their guests for the interim so they weren't stood outside in the cold, in December. I was thrilled to be asked. What an opportunity! Months passed and suddenly it was nearly time. The week before the event the couple came to the venue to pay the £75 for their mulled wine for their guests. There was no hire charge and no other costs involved, I was just asking for the cost of the wine. During this visit the timings were confirmed in conversation and I wished them well as they left, looking forward to their big day. It was to be the first wedding reception (of sorts) at the venue and I was really pleased they'd chosen to support my young venture. On the day of the wedding I got to the venue at 12 noon to set the mulled wine warming and put on some heaters to warm the venue (as it was a chilly day in December). The glasses for the drinks were all set out along the bar ready (done the night before). The tables, chairs, candles, everything else, were all ready (also done the night before). I was all set for the guests arriving from 1.30pm. I had more than enough time to pop out (around 12.15pm) to get some fresh oranges for decorating the mulled wine and some change from the bank before the guests arrived. I thought. At around 12.55pm I was on my way back from my errands and received a phone call from a neighbouring business of mine to say there were a number of guests stood outside the rear doors to the venue in wedding outfits who said they'd booked a drinks reception for 12.30pm and had been there around 15-20 mins. I was so sure I had the time right. 1.30 start. It was a 1.30 start... I was sure! It wasn't. It was a 12.30 start. My heart sank. All of the planning, the new glassware, the special stock ordered in, setting everything out the night before, I'd been so meticulous... but I had the wrong time. I had fallen, catastrophically, at the very last hurdle. I got to the venue at approx. 1pm, just minutes after the call, but there was nobody in sight except a man who introduced himself as a reporter from the local newspaper who said the bride had called him to report what I had done. He said that she and the groom were at St Mary's (their reception venue) but he didn't know where it was. I jumped in his car and directed him to it. It is in the very next street so the journey took all of a minute. The bride and groom were (rightly) furious with me and were in no mood to hear me out. We spoke briefly and I offered a full refund along with sincere apologies. I left to avoid upsetting them further. The journalist noted that the venue was indeed set up and waiting, the wine was mulling... he could see it was a genuine mistake and saw no need to go ahead with a story and left. I headed back round to my venue and was told by a neighbour that the wedding guests were in a bar over the street. I headed over and spoke to the couple's (adult) son and daughter. They gave me the chance to explain that I had the wrong time in my calendar on my smartphone and had been going off that all along and had seemingly not updated the timings after our last communication. I felt terrible and I offered to pay for everyone's drinks as an apology but they said that wasn't necessary. They were very kind and understanding, more than I deserved. Back at my bar I went back through the emails I'd had from the couple. It was definitely a 12.30pm start. I couldn't believe it. I felt terrible. Later that evening as I set up for another event I took a bouquet of flowers and a card with my apologies and a full refund of the £75 for their welcome drinks in cash to their reception venue. Their party was in full swing and I didn't want to disturb or upset the couple again so I gave it to the grooms sister at the doors and asked her to ensure the couple got the money from the card, if nothing else. Nothing I could have said or done would have made it better. Nothing ever will. I know it can't be undone. It wasn't deliberate and I am, as they say, only human. I made a mistake. The first in the 14 months since my business opened. But it was an awful, awful mistake. I will never forget it. I thoroughly understand the couple's disappointment in me. It is just and fair. I have since done my utmost to ensure a mistake like this will never happen again, though that is of no consolation in this instance. A very hard lesson learned. My apologies again to the couple.
