Went on "relaxed Sunday" which happens once a month, and is basically the same as regular sessions except there is no 11am-12pm entry slot online (so only 10-11am then the next one is 12-1pm) and the lighting and music is maybe a bit softer - but all the attractions are the same. After 12pm it returns to like in regular sessions. The whole day wasn't very busy though, so actually pleasant compared to some scrum science museums we've been to in other cities. Everything in good condition too. The kids enjoyed the experiment lab, the planetarium shows, the science lab show (fire and ice) and also all the various interactive displays. A lot of fun for kids.

Hello, Thank you for your review. During a relaxed Sunday, we alter lighting and sound levels where possible, to accommodate those with sensory needs. For example, hand-dryers in toilets will be turned off for the duration of the session. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your time in the science centre, especially the Experiment Zone, as that's one of our favourites too. We hope to see you back again soon. Thanks

Attended a specific event - 50th Anniversary of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. But also had a quick look around. The event was Fantastic and the venue, facilities and staff are superb. Could not recommend more highly.

From going here as a child myself the place has take a rapid decline. A lot of the activities have been removed and replaced with craft areas meaning less upkeep for the owners to make more money from less maintenance and staffing.
A lot of the exhibits are tired and worn could do with s overhaul.
You are asked to book a time slot upon booking however this does not make any difference as it’s still packed to the rafters (yes I know it’s the school holidays) but why bother allocating time slots then just let as many people in as you fancy… I’ll tell you why too maximise profits.
Understand that certain areas are for older children however the science zone which is quite a large part of the now depleted zones, you’d think that there are certain experiments that a younger child would be able to do without using chemicals etc.
The dining area is poorly lighted meaning accidents can occur easily.
Parking discount ticket is a good option if parking in the near-by car park as the 5 hours you get give you a chance to have a look around at ease.

Thanks for your feedback, we’re sorry to hear you’re disappointed by your recent visit to Life.
We’ve made some big changes over the last few years, so things might be different from when you were last here. We have recently revamped our Space Zone and added our new exhibition the Wow Zone, where you can see yourself in an infrared camera, discover what sound looks like, operate our 6-metre-tall ‘Big Machine’ and much more. As well as this, The Making Studios, is much loved by our visitors – did you have a chance to experience these exhibitions?
The times linked to your booking are only an ‘arrival slot’, as visitors are welcome to stay for as long as they like once they arrive. As you understand, during the school holidays we see a large increase in visitor numbers, however we can advise on quieter times to visit, if you contact us.
For safety reasons, our Experiment Zone is specifically for those aged 7 and up. Those carrying out experiments may be using real chemicals, so it would not be safe to have those under the age limit inside the zone while other experiments are taking place.
We will pass your feedback about our dining area to our team, as we strive to make the centre as accessible as possible.

My 5-year-old daughter enjoyed it very much and we spent good 5 hours there today. We particularly enjoyed two planetarium shows (the Little Bear and the Constellation Close-Up: Virgo) which were run or managed by Charlotte who also led an interactive live show about germs at noon. She is a real asset and I saw her being busy engaging with children around all the time. I found the space zone here more engaging than the national space museum in Leicester for young children. Other science zones are also interesting and interactive. There is a play area on the first floor and a cafe. It's so good that I am thinking about being a member.

I visited here with my wife, although the centre was more tailored for children, we still had great fun looking around the space section and watching a show at the planetarium.

Festive Fiver advertised. Arrived about 13.30 and upon paying nothing was mentioned about half of the museum being closed. We joined a queue for the science show to be told there was no space left, wasted 20minutes queueing to be turned away. It was so busy that you had to wait to read and see the displays. Next queued for the planetarium another 20 minutes and told again it was full no space left. Then queued for the experiments and we were told 25/30mins wait.
Waste of time for us with a disabled member of the family who couldn’t queue for long periods.
I emailed them to mention all of the problems and the reply was that they think going in for £5 was a great offer, and they had more staff on, which I would agree to if you could do the activities/theatres. However for us it was a waste of £20 with no offer of money back or a visit in the future.

We apologise that your recent visit, was not what you expected, and were left disappointed.
Although Space Zone is popular, it is just one of many areas and activities on offer, and certainly doesn't represent half of the science centre. The closure is communicated on our website in a number of places including the online ticket bookings page.
Our reception team have also been informing visitors on arrival of the closure, and have given updates on how busy the centre is.
The schools’ Christmas break is one of our busiest periods so we plan accordingly by introducing extra shows and more staff. We also allow visitors to come back into the centre throughout the day with their ticket.
Inclusivity and accessibility are very important to us, and we appreciate that a queuing system may not be appropriate for all of our visitors. Thank you for bringing this to our attention – we’ll investigate alternative options.
We hope that this experience has not deterred you from visiting in the future.

Hi, I think this would appeal to older children, but when we were there there was a party of parents and 2 year olds having a great time. Supervision of the children would be a necessity as there are open spaces to get lost in!

Probably better/quieter on a Saturday, as your nearest Car Park is Times Square which is used by workers through the week.
If you're going to Life centre, try to go on the 4d cinema ride, its great!

I was planning on going here this week with my partner as he likes science things and thought it would be a fun day out but I was wondering if anyone thinks this is more of a place were you would take children rather than somewhere adults could just go to aswell or would that look wierd?

We were there last week. Both of us in 50's a few other couples were there too. Yes it's mainly designed for kids but I really enjoyed it and found it interesting. GO !

Hi there,
Is the centre suitable for 3 year olds? Are there enough activities to keep the little ones entertained?
Thanks!
Life Visitor Experience Team
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK1 contribution
Hi Evanquick82
Yes, there's plenty to keep3 year olds entertained. We have the Young Explorers' Zone for under 7s, which is specially designed to give little ones a safe place to learn, play and explore. There's also an under 7s planetarium show on several times each day - currently it's Naughty Monsters in the Sky.
Ages 4 and under get in free to Life, and we also have special pre-school days once a month (excluding school holidays) where we put on special additional activities.
I hope you find this helpful!
Thanks
Antonia
