Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Just the best pub in Newcastle really :)

Perfect during the day for a quiet drink whilst reading your paper / book then rowdy when its match day.... so it's pretty much preserved culturally and aesthetically as it was built!

There's none of this 'pulled pork 'treat yourself to a cheeky' infantile retro typography' nonsense too which is always a plus.

It's a bit intimidating to walk into at first but once you're in, you're in for life!

A great pub in Newcastle, a "Real Ale pub" as they call themselves! In fact, they've just won "Real Ale Pub of the Year 2014" so hey, worth a visit! It's a bit dim inside, but very cozy and chill. They have these beautiful stained glass ceilings which really elevates the feel of the place. 8 real ale pumps including some guest pumps, but I think they probably change fairly often (and I just had cider so can't comment, but boyfriend was happy with the selection). They have a very fun trivia night on Thursdays at 8:30 pm, £1 to play and winner takes all. But second-to-last place wins a wooden spoon that has "I came in second-to-last in trivia at the Bogeda Pub!!!" written on it, so I think we all know what the real best prize is - and we WON IT last week (or...lost it? I mean, second-to-last is really rubbish)! Great place to go for a group to just have a relaxing chat, try a new beer, or play the quiz machine.

Popped in for a quick drink. Staff so friendly for a Thursday night, it was last orders and it was busy because a quiz had been on. A must try for a good down to earth pub with a great atmosphere

Not plastic ,stupid drinks pub, but what I would call a proper pub without loud crashing music, with more importantly, REAL ALE kept well.
Lovely 'Rennie Mackintosh" type glass ceiling domes, proper bar area.
A bit spit and sawdust but we loved it.
Depends on personal taste ... But one of the best drinks we had in a night of nine.

Last time I visited this bar it was quiet with a CAMRA type of crowd full of beards and ale appreciation. On my latest visit the crowd was much more mixed and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. It has some really cool features. The staff are good and seem happy to let you taste before you buy. A great place to meet, drink and chat or just while away a few hours drinking s good range of beers on draught. Highly recommended if you like good beer and a pub you can talk in.

The Bodega is one of Newcastle's great "ale" pubs. It has a good range of all drinks, but it's justifiably most famous for its ales. They are very well kept and there's always a great choice - also two non-alcoholic beers in bottles. The building itself is spectacular. Recommended!

We always head to The Bodega when visiting Newcastle and it never fails to delight! The choice of hand pulled beers (8, I counted today) and many other Lager and International Ales are all kept too a high level. The beers are clean and fresh and you just know by the look and the taste of them that the landlord knows what he is doing! The building is so interesting and when the beer is this good it has to be visited and appreciated for the great pub that it is!

Always interesting array of local ales, ever changing and beautifully kept. Very personable staff who genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. Best real ale pub in the North East for sure.

Always plenty of choice of locally brewed real ales and good quality crisps etc. available. The beer is exceptionally well kept so that the tastes and aromas of individual beers are clear and distinct. Many pumps are below the 5% ABV, making them great session beers or suitable for a cheeky pint on the way home from work. Friendly and efficient staff and chilled atmosphere. My favourite city centre pub.

.... Because I work with 2 of them in their day jobs.

This is a great after work pub with loads of guest and local ales; as well as the trendy imported stuff that has infiltrated every pub you go to these days.

It's the interior (as well as the bar maids) that make this place stand out with its stained glass domes - I believe it was once part of the theatre next door????

It's spacious too with loads of seating and standing but it does get rammed on match days - they also have the football on TVs too - I can't for the life of me remember if they have music; I'm always drunk when I go here.

I was did the quiz and it was a good un - think it was a Wednesday?

If you're visiting the toon it's a very friendly pub so well worth a visit - just dodge the charvers as they F and blind their way down the Westgate Rd.
